I've installed Gigabyte RX 6800 and very happy with it. Thanks everyone for the infos in this thread, if I didn't read it I'd probably buy a card that's too big.

I use it for high end Photoshop work (big files, lots of layers, etc) and there's a big difference in fluidity of work compared to 580X, it feels much more responsive to work with.

The W6800 is now in stock at B&H:

I just wish it was faster than the 6900xt I was going to pick one up until I started reading about the specs

Right, as I recall the specs are the same as the RX6800 vanilla card, except for the VRAM.

BTW, I have the vanilla card?

Ouch, Yeah I was ready to pull the trigger on buying one until I saw the specs. I currently have a

AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo 32 GB in my Mac Pro. I have seen rumors of a W6900X Module that is going to be releasing with the new Macpro refresh coming this December. Apple always releases the biggest items near the end of the year so big companies can write them off on taxes. But by December that card will already be outdated compared to Nvidia. I'm trying to hold out Mac and not build a PC but AMD needs to step their game up.

As far as I've seen, Nvidia doesn't have anything else coming between now and December. The Ti versions released last month look like their release for the year.

I suppose it’s relative, for some workflows the extra memory probably improves performance over a 16GB 6900XT.

Definitely paying for it though, AU$4500 here.

Yeah, it's a big, expensive question. I've been regularly running into situations where the 16GB of VRAM in my two Radeon VIIs (in Davinci Resolve) is almost maxed-out, and it'd be really interesting to see if 32GB cards would allow me to lift real-time playback speeds in those situations.

For compute work, the 6800XT certainly seems to be the sensible (bang-for-buck) option. The 6900XT only having 11% (or something like that) more compute units, means you have to be getting a really good deal on the 6900 for it to be worth it.

Question: What is the best PCI slot for the 6900 XT when also mixing with the 5700 MPX module? I currently have the MPX in slot 1 and the 6900 in slot 4 to give it better airflow

Ive done extensive benchmarks on basically all of the possible GPU combinations in pairs. Heaviest stuff I could throw at them, 12K Braw to 4444 XQ, 8K R3d Raw, etc.

1. 6900 XT *2 by the fastest in pretty much everything
2. Vega ii Solo *2 Neck and neck with the duo, but slower than 6900 XT
3. Vega ii Duo Same as the duo, could not find a bottleneck with the pcie bandwidth in the real world
4. W5700x *2 - almost as good as the duo Vegas in most cases

There isn't a huge video rendering difference between all of those, usually seconds or a minute or two for larger files - but can be more in some cases.

If you order the list in terms of price to performance, either the 6900xt or W5700x will be 1 and 2, with the Vegas not a great price to performance anymore.

If you find a 6900xt at $999 msrp, that's awesome - but most likely real world pricing is $1400-1500 right now, still a good value for the performance you get.

Also, running 6900 XT is pretty quiet - in fact near a Duo. Fans do spin up with heavy tests, the W5700x is the most quiet due to lower power.

Otherwise, 6900xt works almost flawless in Mac Os, aside from not having extra thunderbolt 3 ports. USB C cable to LG 5k Display. Sometimes waking up from sleep can hang, so I unplug and plug, but overall fine.

I do like the vega ii duo still though, just because it is such an awesome piece of hardware - but price to performance loses to the new 6900xt.

The new MPX W6800 should be awesome with 32GB of vram

Assume your LG display has two TB inputs? What would happen if you used a bi-directional cable from the card to the second TB port on the display?

Just ordered a Gigabyte 6800 XT to go alongside my 5700 MPX module. Will report back to let everyone know if it fits and works.
