Bump. I am very very very curious about this.

I really want to use it and get 4 of the yet-to-be-released 1TB Samsung 950 Pro (using that NVMe driver).

I am interested in one of these but am unclear where I can actually purchase one (ideally in UK). Does anyone have a link to an online store?

I'm running this setup and it works as the Barefeats test suggests. I haven't had issues so far *knocks on wood*.

I ordered direct from Amfeltec. But yes, you have to email them for a sales quote. They should just put up an online shop for this.

From my Amfeltec quote:

Please specify the size of the PCIe upstream adapter: x16, x8 or x4
Please specify the size of the PCIe bracket: full size or low profile

PowerMike G5, which upstream adapter did you get? I will assume x16 since (per your signature) you have 4 SM951.
And which PCIe bracket did you get? Any idea what the difference is between Full size and low?

EDIT - I googled the full size vs low profile. I am an idiot. It's just the height of the bracket.

I got the x16 as that one is needed to utilize the full speed of the slot, if you're plan is to use 4 SM951s on it (which I do).

And yes, you have to get full size :)

One could have the impression that this is nothing but CreatePro doing some undercover-advertisements ?

Registered today and first posting like an ad...

There are some things to note about CreatePro….

read just completely this Thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/tom-create-pro-taking-over-mac-gpu-development-create-pro.1813249/

and now they "adopt" the ideas and tips in this MR-thread and present it as their own work….

They still haven´t changed...

Sorry if my post seems to be an ad. I wasn't my purpose. I just discover "create pro" and searching the net to get info about the Amfeltec PCIe Card.
Thank you for the link about create pro.

Its not really expensive if you work it out. The squid costs $337 with discount from the Canadian company. With shipping and import VAT that comes to £338 at todays exchange rates. They then have merchant fees to pay on the sale and if there is anything left, a profit.
I have no interest with the company but I do import these cards for use in my own machines. The UK price will not reduce until either Amfeltec reduce their prices or another manufacturer creates a similar product.

the Mac Pro 4,1/5,1 does not use the X58 chipset thats a common misconception it uses the a Server/workstation chipset from intel that uses the same CPUs (I don't remember the model number exactly im sure others can chip in) but I have never seen a North bridge die on a Mac pro 4,1/5,1 (apart from when the Plastic rivets break and the heat sink falls off)

Here is an actual picture of the AC82X58 IOH "Quasi Northbridge" die from a Mac Pro 4,1 (2009 factory) single CPU Tray . If it looks amazingly like a X58 chip , it's because it is one .

I am running the Amfeltec Squid card in a cMP 5,1 (2010) running El Cap 10.11.3, plugged into a PCIe x16 slot (#2). Purchased direct from Amfeltec -- did the "get a quote" dance, paid via PayPal email, and they shipped the next business day.

Works great, no problems, with performance in line with the report by BareFeats. Each SM951 is bootable, and gets about 1420 max MB/s write and 1370 max MB/s read with the Blackmagic Speed Test. Trim is enabled (via "sudo trimforce enable") and confirmed via System Report. In Disk Utility each SM951 shows up as "PCI External Disk".

Currently I have two SM951 M.2 AHCI blades installed, one for the boot drive and one for a large Lightroom photo library and catalog. Eventually I plan to get two more blades and stripe them in RAID-0 for video editing.

$367 USD, shipping was extra.

They said the "BAREFEATS" discount code mentioned in the article expired on December 8th of 2015.

So to get this straight, they want 300 CAD/USD for a card that basically routes 16 PCIe lanes to 4 cards and a few dollars in LEDs and mounting? It's not like you can't just simply split PCIe slots in lanes....

Impressive business, have to admit.

You forget the PLX-chip. That's an expensive chip. Nowhere near 300 but still relatively expensive.

X58 and 5520 are simply code named Tylersburg. One is the desktop variant and the other is for servers.

A x16 2.0 -> 4x x4 2.0 PLX (should be 2xxx i thinK) costs like 10$, even the 3.0 x16 -> 3.0 2x x16 shared IO are not much more expensive than that and this is the highend line.

I have mine with 4x SM951 256GB sticks in it, but I'm only getting ½ the speed in a Mac Pro 5,1. I checked the link status register, and it shows a 2.0 x16 link. The bridges each show 2.0 4x links. I've tried reseating the card, swapping the sticks around, putting it into a Mac Pro 3,1 that I have laying around, and the result is always the same. I have also tried each stick individually, in pairs, triplets, and all four in RAID 0 with approximately linearly increasing speed that peaks out at around 2.5/2GB/s read/write. Also, my video card clocks about 6GB/s in slot 2, so the slot isn't an issue.

Amfeltec has been less than helpful with this. Does anyone have any ideas?
