A few rumours have suggested that iPhones and iPads might ship with AMOLED displays. I hope they are right, I absolutely love the AMOLED displays on the newest Samsung products. But that's not why I'm making this thread. I'm making it because if this happens, I think that iOS should be and will be redesigned specifically for these devices.
Now I say this because this is what are great at. Making hardware and software work together seamlessly. And, of course, they've done it once already. With watchOS. The Watch comes with an AMOLED display, and the OS is built completely around that. For instance, in the home screen, there's a black background, and the icons shrink rather than disappear off the side, making it impossible to tell where the screen ends. And almost every element of watchOS is dark. If the Watch had an IPS display, the OS would be completely different.
So what if they built iOS in a similar way? Take Safari. Make the search bar black, thicker icons for adding tabs, going back and forward, and make the background in the task switcher completely black. And also a black and white keyboard. Then give that sort of design language to the rest of the OS.
And then a dark mode. As far as I know, Sammy doesn't have one of these on their phones, and I am very surprised. It's perfect for AMOLED. So basically in an iOS dark mode, everything will basically be like watchOS, with a dark everything. Pretty self explanatory.
And finally, make some lock screen tweaks. For example, double tap on the screen to get the time show up, and swipe through some information, kind of like information stream on the S6 Edge. One area where Sammy got it right. And do something about notifications. Instead of lighting up the entire screen, just have the app logo appear in a small space on the screen, then tap to view it. I think things like this could really come in useful.
