I really hope they plan to combine Google Voice and Hangouts together. Hangouts is great, but it needs to improve, too.

I also hope they get rid of Gtalk and just go full out Hangouts on Gmail (sort of a Gmail thing, but ya). That or re-introduce the Invisible feature.

Don't mention Roms or rooting. I know and did em.

I would love it if the soft keys would hide in apps and have a setting to turn it off completely if you need them. This works in yt and some others gapps so why not everywhere?

All of sudden, i care so much more that my phone receives this update if nothing else but to say " iOS?, bitch my phone's on KitKat" :D.

Seriously though a part of me is a little disappointed its not 5.0 as it indicates despite the name change, it may not be a major update. The other part of me realizes that Google doesn't have to reinvent the wheel with their next update.

Would love to see more improvements to Google now such as deeper integration e.g. system, apps, play store ect. Of course would also like to see the rumored multitasking improvements come to fruition. There have been many times when i need to do two things at once such as setting wifi but needing to look through my notes for the key. So having the ability to have apps run side by side would be a big welcome.

Lastly, and i know this would probably never happen, is the ability to "nexus" any device. That completes my wishlist.

I don't know if he knew it would be Kit Kat, but he seemed to definitely know it wouldn't be KLP. That along with the fact that he did call the Hangouts thing 100% before anyone even had reported it, you have to admit that dude had to be a leaker. I remember him calling it "Babel" when all the blogs were still saying "Babble". It sucks that he's banned now, because I bet he probably would have had some information about 4.4's features. Of course I'm being selfish again lol. :D

Hopefully they dump holo which is an utterly disgusting UI. The cheesy Tron theme is really ugly.

Google's Chrome and most Google apps have a nice clean flat UI that looks really nice to me.

Disgusting? I think you should look the word up in a dictionary.

----------

I think it is a dumb name. Google should have stayed with generic names.

What would you suggest that isn't "dumb"?

To be honest I think it's pretty tacky and tasteless to have an operating system / marketing advertising link up.

What is next Mac OS X Nestle... Microsoft Windows Twix ?

It cheapens the OS for me.

Can't stand Kitkats. Such a boring chocolate! I hope Android KitKit is a little more exciting.

Agreed - I hope it's only a one off and not indicative of Google's naming scheme going forward. I would have made sense if there had been licensing fees involved and the money was being donated to charity or something.

I keep thinking that this is all a pubilicity stunt and Google is still going to announce Key Lime Pie.

It doesn't really bother me too much, but I do agree that it cheapens the OS and will be perceived (correctly or not) to be a marketing link up.

This is an odd choice of name for an OS, but I like it. I love Kit-Kats so my big question will be compatibility with current devices.

I don't know if he knew it would be Kit Kat, but he seemed to definitely know it wouldn't be KLP.

They called it KLP to their partners and had no plans to rename it. Only a few marketing people knew it would be branded. Unless the poster is a top level marketing executive at Google, he would not have known it was being changed. Lots of people have said it would not be KLP but they were just guessing. It doesn't make them insiders.

Is there any word on new features? So far all I've heard is the name and the lame statue.

Gotta admit....not a big fan of the new name.....wasn't a fan of the desert themed names either......but then not a big fan of the OSX cats themed names either. Windows names (win 8, Win 7, Vista, Win 2000, Win 95) are boring. Don't know what the middle ground is....I guess they all have to call it something. They want to get the marketing hype going but the name KitKat for an OS name does not inspire me.....

I'm looking forward to all the Android offers and incentives we'll get just for eating Kit-Kat bars. I can certainly live with that!

What do you think would be a better naming scheme? A little more "techie"?

Not sure what a good name would be......The name Kit Kat seems a little to be a little like candy coating without substance......but it is just a name. Maybe there will be Playstore coupons in the Kit Kat wrappers! See how that sounds?

KitKat is a problem cause it sounds too candy-ish and sweet? Um, Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich? Honeycomb? What am I missing here?

Maybe cause it's actually a brand of sweets? I honestly think Google (and KitKat) are having a bit of fun here. There's no direct money exchange (though the partnership could obviously lead to more sells and exposure which can lead to many, I get that. I also have no problem with that. Good for them), and it's clear both of them are having fun as evidenced by the mock video and website KitKat put out. The KitKat bar having edge to edge display is, in my opinion, hilarious.

In an industry of ceaseless litigation and fierce competition, it's nice to see some lighthearted-ness. It just makes the folks over at Google feel more friendly. More relaxed. I like it. Also, if you actually read the articles about how this came to be internally, it makes sense.

It's just a name -- not worth getting hung up on. The more exciting thing will be what 4.4 brings to the table.

Yeah it is just a name....I already said earlier in the thread i was not fond of the desert theme for a name. But seriously what is wrong with Android 4.4? or Android 5? It does seem like they are having fun with the name and marketing.......maybe coupons in the Kit Kat wrappers for Playstore credit? Next promotion buy a song from the Play Store and get a coupon for a Kit Kat bar? So maybe instead of all this fun with the name and marketing themes they could just focus on enriching the OS and adding features and have fun with that? Does anyone know what features 4.4 will have? No but we all know the name is Kit Kat.......

'google' the biggest personalised 'ad' seller teaming up with KitKat is just a happy co-incidence ?

For me the issue is it's a road that I just do not want to get on. I do not want my future OS's and more commercially endorsed by food or fashion brands.

Like I say to me it's the start of opening a flood gate - and we all know Google have enough info on us without factoring their OS being so closely tied to ANY manufacturer / brand and the possibilities of that info leaching further. Even just the potential for it to do so.

If anything could sway me back to iOS - it's' actually that prospect.

And yes. They should just stick to numbers. Android 4.4 as that is what it will be primarily referred to by users anyway. Drop the silly names altogether.

I don't mind the cross-advertising thing. I mean advertising kind of is Googles primary field of operation anyway, isn't it? It'd be pretty gross if Apple did something like this, but with Google's brand its more natural.

And like couch said, it's nice to have a bit of lightheartedness for once. I think I'll buy a couple of KitKats to go with my coffee for Sammy's unpacked in an hour
