So y'all are worried that Google might potentially, intentionally, or otherwise accidentally let our personal info slip to KitKat and/or future dessert brands that they may pair up with?

Really? I'm not being dismissive or sarcastic here. Really?????

I am not the slightest bit worried about that!

Fear of KitKat integrating with the software/hardware is actually more worthy of your concern than that happening.

Kit-Kat can have my mailing address.

So they can send me Kit-Kats :D

Yeah it is just a name....I already said earlier in the thread i was not fond of the desert theme for a name. But seriously what is wrong with Android 4.4? or Android 5? It does seem like they are having fun with the name and marketing.......maybe coupons in the Kit Kat wrappers for Playstore credit? Next promotion buy a song from the Play Store and get a coupon for a Kit Kat bar? So maybe instead of all this fun with the name and marketing themes they could just focus on enriching the OS and adding features and have fun with that? Does anyone know what features 4.4 will have? No but we all know the name is Kit Kat.......

Not sure what your complaining about. Android already has more features than what iOS has and it continues to get better so who cares what they call it.

They called it KLP to their partners and had no plans to rename it. Only a few marketing people knew it would be branded. Unless the poster is a top level marketing executive at Google, he would not have known it was being changed. Lots of people have said it would not be KLP but they were just guessing. It doesn't make them insiders.

Like I said before, KLP wasn't the only thing he was right about. You can go back and see for yourself, he was right about other things too, before the blogs ever knew. Either way, it's not something I want to keep going back and forth with you about. Obviously I'm not the only one that noticed.

I get the marketing and opportunities for all the hype.......but maybe they should let the FEATURES drive the buzz and market that? Don't you think Google can afford to do that as well? They have the bankroll to promote the feature set just like they are doing with the Moto X. What did they say they are spending on advertising for the Moto X? Something like half a billion dollars? So what enrichment have they done to Kit Kat? Can you name one? No but you know its called Kit Kat huh? Kinda like putting the cart before the horse...creating a buzz around candy but not any features or enhancements that will make the OS better.....but hey.....its named after a candy bar......
The whole sports team analogy does not work......what is the first thing you think of for a sports team? How good they are! Not whether they have a corporate sponsor......they let the teams performance speak for themselves....the corporate sponsor is just an after the fact thing.......do you see advertisements for Heinz products when the sports shows talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers? No but Heinz sponsors the stadium.
Do you hear the announcers say the Heinz Steelers are playing today? I could go on but i think you get the picture.

Man you must be new to android so I will give you a quick lesson.

First you need to chill the f out and relax.this is just the name of the os and Google has chosen deserts from the very first version and will to the very last version.

Now every year right around this time Google will keep its mouth shut about its next version of android and will give small hints of the name and then will put on display out side of Google headquarters... A huge art piece of the actual name of the next version of android.

They did this with every single version so far and have always been tight lipped on any new features and leave all that for the nexus release that spills the beans on all the new features.

They are not using kitkat over features and Google has done this every time a new version comes out.

Relax

LOL...you are a trip...not new to Android.....but thanks for your version of how the world works. So just because they have done it this way in the past ......means there isn't a better way? Or they have the most market share so they must be doing something right huh? Look how well that has worked for Microsoft with Windows......Oh yeah...Blackberry used to have mobile space by the gonads at one time too......

Perfect explanation, people need to chill.

So much butthurt in this thread, it's just a name.

No I've had every single nexus device and this is exactly how its been done from day 1

Android puts out a art piece of there next name of there upcoming name of there os without a single hint of its features.

This has absolutely nothing to do with market share or anything.you are nuts thinking the way you are about the name of its next version of android.

They did it this way when they had 5% market share and when they had 50% it has nothing to do with market share.

Its just they way they announce the next name of there upcoming os and have a bunch of art pieces sitting in the front lawn.

I'd love to see google integrate hangouts into the messaging app just like iMessage. And of course more smoothness and better battery life will always be welcome.

Just when I loved Google enough, they had to name their next version of Android after my FAVORITE chocolate candy bar!

Schweeet!

you are proving my point.......hype with no substance........
I think they should provide features to get the hype created....not candy.........
"hey public here is our new OS.....named it after candy.....oooh ahhhhh chocolate" Something shiny and sweet....not a leak about what features or enhancements are coming....but hey its chocolate.......

Why not do both? Google has always liked to deliver a product while also having fun...naming it KitKat is just Google being Google...in comparison naming it just Android 4.4 would be so boring.

Releasing the name is just the beginning....I bet we'll see additional hype, speculation, and excitement over the features associated with KitKat in the days going forward just like we did with every other prior Android version. Time will tell.

Are you guys serious? I bet 99% of people on the streets have never ever heard of android version names, and nearly no one except some geeks even know what JB is.

You act like coca cola just changed their color to blue.

I read a comment just now that made a fair point. Those users outside the US may not know what Key Lime Pie is whereas KitKat is something that people the world over know.

True. I had to 'google' key lime pie; turns out it's an American dessert, no wonder I had no idea what it is, expect that it's some kind of pie

Never break a running system. Their marketing system works - so why change - for your sake ?
Oh...c'mon now...... i never said just for my sake.
I am sure other companies struggle with this dilemma. But then we would not have some great advertising if they had just stuck to what worked in the past.....
I don't know why everyone is so but hurt about what I said. I think Google could have come up with a more professional name....that all. :) Not a fan of the desert theme....that all. :)

well, they have confirmed that they were thinking of naming this version key lime pie, but, it's not that popular so they went for this name. the thing i'm frustrated about is that they are in the 4.x version, which means that the next update wont be a big one.

I'm hoping the name change signifies a big change and the number doesn't matter this time. One can hope.

I think it's a fun little venture.

I don't know why some are butthurt. It's not that serious, and is great marketing for both brands.
