My income is quite low. Below the poverty line. I must live with someone else. I buy cheap for a reason.
After my skin cancer surgery I had to elevate my leg and stated using my tablet..
At this point I'm going to abandon the tablets when they stop working and get a Windows laptop.
I have evacuated 2 times from this address and almost lost our home in the 2017 Tubs fire. I must have a portable device.
Windows is the lesser of all evils.
In other words, I don't need to be a part of this forum anymore. I'm logging out.
I wasn't trying to make you feel bad. I am in a similar situation with a different chronic health condition and low/actually no income.
That being said, the essence of what I was saying is that even with a restricted income it is even more important to buy something that will last a while because we can't afford to upgrade all the time. Also, if you can track deals during holiday sales several times a year, sell your used electronics on a site like Swappa, then buy something good. Mid range to lower high end is the sweet spot for electronics when you factor depreciation, performance, specs, and enjoyment over the life of the device.
Apple is one of the best in terms of keeping hardware the longest. Apple products are expensive but you can buy used, on sale and a slightly older model.
If you are considering a laptop then an M2 MacBook Air or m1 MBA are very competitively priced. For you specifically it is a light laptop that lasts a long time on battery, has a great display and should last at least 5-7 years on these laptops and possibly even longer.
Otherwise a m1 5th gen iPad would also last you a long time.
Maybe if financing on a credit account is not possible you could save $20 a month and when you get a good amount sell your other devices and then in a year or sooner you could afford the iPad. A laptop is considerably more expensive than a tablet. But it is also much more useful in my opinion and can be all you need besides a phone. Light enough to use like a tablet, no fans, etc. on m series MBA's.
I was certainly not trying to offend you or make you feel your feelings or concerns, needs are anything other than completely understandable. Money in this economy is awful. Buying anything is hard. Groceries, rent, mortgages, utilities, gas, everything has almost doubled or more since 2020. So I get it and I am not trying to tell you what to do. I was trying to help. But you do you and I hope you understand forums like this should be a place you can have any opinion on the electronics you own. No one has the right to tell you, that you are wrong.
I hope you stay and find what you need at a price you can afford and I wish you the best in your health.
Take care.
