My ISP has been down.
I just looked at your reply.
Someone gave me an "angry!"
I can milk my iPad for another 3 years and use my Android tablets some of the time.
I could get 2 or 3 useful Dell laptops, the only company I'd consider, versus an MBA.
I love my 2019 Tab A. It struggles with all the ad overloaded websites. Freezes frequently. The Web needs regulation.

People on these or any forums can be real a holes. Don't take it personally. A lot of people on the internet love causing chaos and complaining about anything and everything just to complain.

If anyone in this day and age doesn't understand how tough times are then they are part of the problem. Ignore them. Why pay attention to someone you will never meet and is only looking to cause others pain? Why give their opinion any power or value. Argue your points and let the haters hate. That is all they will ever gain is more negativity in their life. Whatever you focus on and look for you will find. Make sure it is worth it!

Have you considered a ChromeOS tablet with a detachable keyboard?

It's not perfect either as a tablet or as a laptop OS, but if you are in a position financially where you need to compromise it seems to me to be a strong option, particularly now that they come with 10 years of support.

If I didn't have Windows applications that I needed to run for work-related reasons, and if I wanted to minimise my spending on electronic devices I'd probably seriously consider a single ChromeOS tablet instead of what I have now (Windows computer + Android tablet).

The 10 years of support begins when the product is made available for sale. Android is the same way.
I do agree even 8-9 years is better than Android.
There are enough times when apps are not available for my Android device because it is not a phone.
Chrome OS would be the same thing. I don't use Firefox, my favorite browser, because it is not my cup of tea on Android. With Chrome OS I would need to run Firefox as a Linux app and don't know how well that would go.
Too many Chrome OS devices are low cost and underpowered. I have that with Android.
Limited number of useful ports like HDMI and SD.
A decent clamshell laptop doesn't not have to cost a fortune and a lot of Chrome OS products can cost the same or more than the same kind of hardware as Windows.
iPad is fine but still has mobile browsers and that is just annoying. I export my bookmarks to a file once a month and only one mobile browser even allows that. I don't want to switch to the DuckDuckGo browser.
iPad is too heavy. Hurts my left arm all the way to my back. I just need a laptop with a stand under my nose.
Anyway, I appreciate all the help and advice!

Update: I just received my Chromecast with Google TV.
The $30 HD version. I like the OS as much as any other streaming device. I can mirror my Tab A with no problem.
I enabled the App Only mode. It can be sluggish and a little unpredictable. It gives me a first look at Google TV.

Well, the deed has been done. Pixel Tablet (Dock version) arriving tomorrow.

Mega excited to try it. Really think this will be the sweet spot for me for living that dual Apple/Google life.

I have the Lenovo M10 plus 3rd gen tablet. I have thought about getting an iPad feel like you can get so much more for your money buying and android tablet.

My income is quite low. Below the poverty line. I must live with someone else. I buy cheap for a reason.
After my skin cancer surgery I had to elevate my leg and stated using my tablet..
At this point I'm going to abandon the tablets when they stop working and get a Windows laptop.
I have evacuated 2 times from this address and almost lost our home in the 2017 Tubs fire. I must have a portable device.
Windows is the lesser of all evils.

What do you use your tablet for? You might want to consider an Amazon Fire Tablet. They are not the fastest, their display are not the best, not the lightest/thinnest, and their software is limited (but you can mod their system software to access and use most Google Play Store software). But they are dirt cheap, extremely sturdy, good battery life, extremely reliable and widely available.

Let me know if you feel the same way in a couple years?

Hardware on Lenovo Android tablets for the price is generally great but the software is not. Updates are slow and bug fixes never included in updates. Software optimization is terrible.

So you get great cheap hardware and a terrible software experience over time. At first, software issues are not a problem when brand new but after a few months you may notice problems that never get fixed.

I think Lenovo give 2-3 years of updates and after that nothing vs an iPad that could last 7 years and deliver a better software experience with better optimize throughout the life of the device as well as some of the best software update support in the market.

Maybe an iPad offers less hardware value if you just look at specs but if you consider the entire experience and software support the iPad is cheaper over time.

Just my 2 cents.

I think you are pretty spot on and I will eventually end up buying an iPad. But in the meantime, I’m ok with a cheaper tablet. I don’t use it nearly as much as my phone. I don’t expect it to last more than a couple of years.

The software does suck on it. But I only paid $150 for it. For what I use it for currently, it’s just fine for me. The hardware, because it was cheap, also is not great. But for watching videos and light games, it’s fine.

No Thank You. Been there with Amazon tablets. Side loading the Google Play Store is possible but too many apps are not compatible. I can get a basic Dell laptop in the $300 price range.
About the Chromecast with Google TV. Great product for casting. App inventory is very limited.
I'm okay having dropped $30 for the HD dongle. Don't have 4K. Would not invest $99 for the new one.

EDIT: Yes, I know no one wants to hear this but my favorite tablet, before it became corrupted, was my Nokia T20.
The new one, the T21 has everything I want. The old one did too less GPS.
Guess I'd need to find a killer warranty!

I've dusted off the old T20 and charged the battery. Nokia has just given the T20 Android 13. Also an update for security. I hope it works okay now. Still updating.

I'm a tablet only kind of guy. This is the only obvious place to say what's on my mind.
My T20 is alive and well. It might still have been corrupted had it not been for the Android 13 update.
I probably won't buy another tablet until Android 15 is available everywhere.
I could be interested in the Pixel Tablet but not the speaker. 256 storage since there is no SD.

Care to share your experience so far?
Something everyone should like is how apps can update more than one at a time from the Play Store.

Been fantastic.

As someone who loves the Pixel line but accepts that he has to live in an iPhone world, this is the sweet spot for me. All the apps I use on my iPad can be found on the Play Store which is why I went this route for my next tablet.

Hub mode is great and have now moved our Nest Hub Max back into the Kitchen and the Tablet now has pride of place in the living room.

Took it away with me for a trip to Spain last week and the fact that I have WhatsApp on there as a companion app meant I didn't need my phone on but could still receive messages. Tremendous stuff.

All in all, I'm really pleased so far.

I realize some on this forum are all Apple. I like my iPad for some things.
My banking app, which is a phone app, only works on iPad. The company refuses to make it available to tablets.
The Spotify app on iPad is superior to Android. It includes a graphic EQ.
Overall, my ability to get along with Android is easier. It is more like a touch computer.
Because iTunes is no longer a product to rip CDs or edit them, I must stay with Windows.
I recently purchased American Graffiti on 2 CDs. I used Windows Media Player to rip the CDs to MP3.
Apple just loves to decide what the end user needs.
I use my tablets like someone else would use a Chromebook.
My next device will likely be a low budget Windows laptop.
