Just a refresher:
2.1 iPhone software for 3G
DOES NOT activate
DOES NOT include custom boot logo (it's just the stock Apple logo)
Cydia and Installer included

Out of curiosity, how come this custom 2.1 firmware, which has Cydia + Installer, is only 227 MB? The actual 2.1 stock firmware itself is 237 MB...i am not saying this firmware isn't legit, just questionable i guess

I have an iPhone 2g on Vista.

Here is the run down on how I am in this position:

ZiPhone (don't every use this... omg!)

I use it and it killed my EDGE, WiFi and Bluetooth.

I downgraded to 1.1.4 after using ZiPhone for 2.0 (originally a 1.0.2 iPhone 2g). I went straight to 2.1 ipsw. I figure I am doing something wrong, but this phone is for my co-worker and I need it unlocked. I can't activate. So could someone help this learning newb? I am up this late and need to be at work soon to give this device to a co-worker. :(

Thanks in advance,

I was able to get EDGE on AT&T sim card, but not WiFi and Bluetooth on 2.0.2. Is there a customer ipsw I can d/l for Windows to restore (shift+restore) using iTunes 8.0?

That's a legitimate concern... maybe because it's been created specifically for the 3G? I guess if you have doubts it would be wise to wait for the Windows pwnage tool. I think it's been working for the users who had previously pwned their phones though.

No Lock with restoring custom 2.1 firmware

Like others I am getting a 6100 error. I tried downgrading to iTunes 7.7 - no luck. I tried downgrading my firmware from 2.1 to 2.02 and 2.01 (tried pwnd and non-pwnd versions) - downgrading did not work either. Tried quick pwn - no go. What the heck is going on????
I am a Windows use. Any help would be appreciated

I think I know what's the problem with the people getting error 6 now that's including me, it's because we haven't been Pwned previously. You can't just restore to a custom firmware if your iPhone hasn't been Pwned before.
At least, this is what I found out from this link.
http://www.iphone-hacks.com/2008/09/14/winpwn-30-to-unlock-and-jailbreak-iphone-21-with-windows/

Testing this theory now...was getting error 6 as well. I'm downgrading to Apple's 2.02 release now, then I'll quickpwn to get 2.02 jailbroken, then I'll install 2.1 jailbroken. I'll tell you guys how it goes!

there u go ...

restore your iPhone with iTunes 8.0 (ctrl+restore)

P. S. Cycoder (Video Recorder) is working just fine

Hi, thanks for the upload, however, i have a little question...this custom firmware includes 01.45.00 baseband version or any of the new ones?

Best regards,

Am.

Hmm, I just checked and it shows Modem Firmware: 01.45.00 on my phone.....

That means, I don't have the new baseband then?

Did you upgrade using bushido's custom firmware?

I did and I have 02.08.01 for my modem firmware.

Yes, but I was upgrading from jailbroke 2.0.....

the new baseband is actually 02.11.07

I just Restored my phone in iTunes 8 to non-jailbreak firmware and got the 02.11.07 baseband....

now, I'm figuring out the steps to get the Custom firmware back on. I tried in iTunes 8 now and it says Error 6...so I just uninstalled iTunes 8, and gonna install iTunes 7.7 and pwn it and then load bushido's firmware........

I'll report back.

that's interesting about the modem firmware being 02.11.07. 02.08.01 has improved my call quality. I think i'm gonna reload 2.1 when winpwn is released and rejailbrake. In the mean time i'm loving bushido's 2.1 my phones been much more stable.

Let us know how 7.7 works for you.

02.08 is the previous baseband, 02.11 is the current, and according to sleepers.net (BigBoss' blog) it's the best yet.

So here's what I did.
1. In iTunes 8, I restored my phone to regular 2.1 (no jailbreak). When the screen said "iPhone is Activated" I didn't go any further in iTunes 8. (I didn't restore my backup or sync anything).
2. Uninstalled iTunes 8 and Apple Mobile Device Support from Add/Remove Programs
3. Did not reboot PC when iTunes 8 Uninstall asked me to.
4. Once uninstall was complete, I installed iTunes 7.7.043
5. Used quickpwn with 2.1 bundle found here: http://xpwn.co.uk/quickpwn-2.1-2g-3g.rar
6. Ran Quickpwn, checked Cydia and Installer. Unchecked Custom logo.
7. Selected the iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw file (2.1 3G Firmware)
8. I followed the directions to get it into DFU mode, yadda yadda......and it jailbroke my phone. Took a few minutes with just a spinning loading circle on a black screen (I thought for a minute I killed my phone lol).
9. Once the phone rebooted, Cydia and Installer weren't visible, this is normal.
10. Reinstalled iTunes 8.
11. Opened iTunes 8 and Shift+Restore and selected bushido's Custom firmware.
12. It installed just fine, once the phone rebooted, I restored my current backup, but canceled the file sync after it backed up.
13. Replaced the MobileInstallation file using TotalCommander and Tpot addon. Rebooted iPhone.
14. Synced in iTunes 8. Everything works.

Now have Modem Firmware 02.11.07

are you doing this all on a vista pc? i see per your instructions your using a pc. where did you get itunes 7.7.043?

Just to confirm, on Step 7, that is the non-jailbroke firmware (original file from Apple's servers).

Yup, downloading now from apple to update and un-jailbrake my phone. then will use it in step 7. thanks :) ~ 56 mins left on download:(

It really improves call quality? Because if we upgrade the baseband version we left back any choice of unlock the Iphone 3G...the Devteam is still working on 01.45.00...

I'm currently running 2.1 jailbroken with 02.08.01 and it seems to have improved the call quality on my 3g. Not really interested in unlocking my phone as i have had at&t for years. when i am upgrade eligible again in jan 2010 i will go with best phone available not necessarily another iphone.

that said 2.1 has fixed most of the flaws with 2.0 firmware on the 3g's (reception, lag, crashes) for most users.

I'm sure an unlock for current baseband will be possible in the future.

I am a legit AT&T sub and I don't plan on going to another network anytime soon, so I feel comfortable having the latest and greatest without worry about unlocking, jailbreak is all I want, and now I have it :)

Ok. I will try that. I have pretty much tried everything else without success. Running WindowsXP Prof on my PC. Do you think it is important to have an un-synched iPhone in step 1 before going to the next step?

I have tried quickpwn before after downgrading from iTunes to 8 to 7.7 but always failed at the DFU screen. The black window would pop up and do its thing (hashing etc.). Then when getting to the point of putting iPhone in DFU mode, the window closes and nothing else happens. The computer and itunes recognize my iPhone as being in DFU mode. Any thoughts on that?
