I was just ready to post that!

Essential Phone coming soon to Best Buy
$699 for the unlocked model

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/essenti...e-unlocked-pure-white/5973001.p?skuId=5973001

I am a glutton for punishment so i will have to get the white one....

Like, I have no confidence or faith in the company but the phone is just so damn hot I don't think I can resist. Complete madness considering the Note is out in a few weeks and then of course Apple does it's thing. (Although on the next iPhone, if rumors are true I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to get my hands on one until at least December/January.)

My thoughts are.... I am not so excited for the N8 as it will be almost exactly like the S8+. I already have a have love hate relationship with that phone. So i might just pass on the N8 as it won't be much different than the S8+.
I want the iPhone 8 but not if the display is only 5.2 factoring the (rumored) function bar. I am looking forward to the Nokia 8 if only for nostalgia. Of course I will get the Pixel 2 XL. But the Essential phone might just fill in the gaps so to speak.
Question marks are the camera performance and updates and longevity of the company itself.
But BB does have a good return policy! :)

If the Essential performs the way I'm assuming it will, it will kill any interest I have in the Pixel 2 XL. I do not care about updates as I don't tend to keep Android phones for longer than 6ish months, and updates would seem to be the only advantage a Pixel 2 XL would have over Essential (it might have waterproofing and wireless charge, I haven't been following the rumors on the device that closely).

I can't help but still get excited for the N8. I'm kind of in the same boat as you with the S8 Plus but the Note series will always have a special place in my heart. I really do miss the days when the Note was a legitimately unique creature in the smartphone world. A giant screen, advanced features, the stylus. It used to be a huge nerdy thrill to set up a new one and take it out into the world for a spin.

Well not all gone but a big chunk of it could be gone the instant you open the box. Who knows what their return policy is and what the 2nd hand market will look like for this device.
I’ll give you a hint about the secondhand market: it’ll be worse than the firsthand one. lol.

That would be my guess, actually. Less nefarious, more clueless. How do you not know this by now?

Sure. Andy Rubin's company is going to ship phones to people, and then close up overnight so they can keep all the money. He will then start another company and sell phones again under the name "Randy Aubin."

You're on to him.

The great thing about straw men is that they’re so easily toppled.

As I said before, I doubt there are any nefarious motivations; he’s simply shown absolutely zilch to have faith it.

You’ll simply be SOL when it sells dozens of units and goes the way of the Amazon phone. Go nuts though.

You keep fighting the good fight though, brother.

My favorite part of this press release is this (imminent at this point would be ~2 months according to them lol):

Essential President Niccolo De Masi told the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday that it’s still “a few weeks away,” but said that the company will provide an exact date “in a week.”

In other words, they still don't have a clue when it will come out and will scramble to provide a date "in a week". I know Essential isn't directly competing with the iPhone or anything but the way this fiasco is going I wouldn't be surprised if they released it on the same day as the next iPhone.

You guys are real troopers. This phone feels like a kickstarter campaign without the kickstarter. I don't think you'll necessarily get burned here but may just end up with a phone that you paid way too much for that gets little support and will be on sale for $100 in a year.
