I will go to one of their stores this week if true to check it out:

www.phonearena.com/news/Essential-Phone-release-date-Sprint_id97050

When they announced last week that they would have an announcement this week (god that sentence is ridiculous) about the phone's release, I was wondering if the announcement would be that the phone was in fact available. If it weren't for the "First Look" event I'd think this confirms that but that event is happening sooo...f*ck if I know anymore with this phone and company. You'd think they would have hit up the reservation list for orders by now if it's going to be released in store at Sprint this week.

I just got an email saying that I have an option to go ahead and order a black variant since my white model pre-order will "take a few more weeks"... Too little too late, already purchased a phone around the time they said this phone would be released. We are now almost 2 months after their initial release window and my white model still apparently has weeks to go when they were supposed to ship together with the black model....

Good thing for you that you weren’t suffering under the delusion that it was all going to magically be ok, and you went ahead and got another phone.

This really should be quite the embarrassment for Rubin.

I have essentially ignored all upcoming phones, including the iphone 8 and this phone. I'm busy defending my dissertation, writing, and interviewing. I have been perfectly happy with my s8+ and conglomerate of technology from all major companies (which work together flawlessly, and that includes Apple products, despite what some say).

But....this phone got my interest this morning. It checks a list that no other phone, including the pixel, checked fully.

-stunning design (pixel failed here, though it wasn't horrible)
-top notch construction and materials.
-real innovation (wireless accessories, etc)
-simple, straight froward, stock like experience
-great specs for future proofing.
-promise ofns device that won't be outdated in a year.

I am tempted to preorder it. But I may wait on reviews. I want to see how the camera holds up. The s8+ camera has spoiled me.

Any idea what the return policy is?

Sorry, I stopped being lazy and figured it out.

I'm going to wait and see if they have a demo model in Best Buy first. I got the email this morning to order the phone and it said it would ship in 7 days. But I'm going to wait for some hands on time.

The return policy is 15 days. I might go ahead with the reservation. I bet the $50 for the 360 camera promo won't last.

I ordered. Used their payment plan so it's not my money if there are any weird issues. If I love the phone, I'll pay the balance off immediately.

Regardless of anything else I still believe the phone will be baller. I guess I'm about to find out.

It will also be unique unlike iPhone and Samsung.

Best Buy (and unlocked) is the only place I will buy it from, hop skip and jump for me to get it and return it if I don’t like it or the Pixel 2 or iPhone 8 or Note 8 or Lg v30 I’d rather have. Wow, lots of choices.

I really did not pay much attention to the thread honestly, I thought this smartphone was vapor ware. Maybe in the long run I should have continued on my way with all the others coming out soon. Who knows, maybe it will surprise us.

You know what - YES. That is absolutely part of it. I noticed a bunch of tech bloggers were carrying around the new Blackberry simply because it's different than everything else out there. When you go through these devices like some of us do, using something that doesn't look like everyone else's "thing" can be a lure unto itself.

I am just shallow enough to admit that's absolutely some of my reasoning. ;)

Two points:

  • I generally would rather cut my own head off then walk into a BB. Customer service is atrocious, and as a result buying or returning anything feels like a trip to the world's worst DMV.
  • This is a miserable and great stretch starting right now. Way too many phones that I'm interested in are hitting at once.
[doublepost=1502894047][/doublepost]Oh, and I'll add one more thing: between the white model still being delayed along with the 360 cam, my expectations are that this company will indeed be a disaster. But damn that phone is gorgeous.

I haven't paid much attention to this handset, but will check it out when it's at Best Buy. Really curious how the software here compares to the pixel and I wonder how they will handle updates.

Amazon is suppose to carry it also I thought I read somewhere online the last few days.

Going to a Sprint store tomorrow, it is close so not a big waste of time if they don’t have it. BB still shows “coming soon” on their website.

I wouldn't be surprised if only people that reserved get them within the promised 7 day timeframe per email confirmations. Any orders placed today move out a couple of weeks. I strongly doubt they manufactured a ton of these devices so initially it's best to roll out in waves.
I agree with you. Not sure I will get mine in the first wave. I reserved the white one. Got the email to change to the black model and replied but have not received the email to complete the order yet for the black one.

No chance Sprint stores will have them sooner? At least I could check it out.

Dunno. I'd think that they'd have a display unit to build in-store interest but this company's rollout has sucked and honestly today didn't really change that. They've opened the phone to orders but without any kind of confirmation of when your phone will actually ship. So I wouldn't be surprised if BB or Sprint didn't have any display units.

At least we know tech bloggers have review units. I wonder when the embargo lifts.

Got the complete your order email and went through with payment. I am excited about this phone. It is something different in a smartphone world full of the next version of something we already know....

Same. I'm curious as to which version of Android the phone is running. And does the camera have OIS.

I did too... :) Pretty excited to try it out. I like how it's shorter and slightly wider than my S8 with pretty much the same sized screen.
