Any Interest In Rubin's Essential Phone?

If they've only sold 5,000, then how many did they order from manufacturing? According the CS rep I was talking to, she said they were waiting a new batch that would be ready to send out next week. Along with all the delays, I don't get what's happened if that's all they sold. Did foxcom only give them one assembly line or something?

maybe a week? I purchased it with the Affirm financing. I was regularly chatting with support via email (Cathy H.) about it. She was super responsive and helpful, but they didn't know how the return processing would work with Affirm, which made me nervous. But one day, I got a text from Affirm saying my product had been returned and loan fullfilled/canceled.
Chances of a European / UK release looking very unlikely with those sales figures.
TBH don't even see much point in releasing it here unless the price was dropped by 25%.
Oh, but that was with Affirm. I used my credit card, I'm hoping I get my refund in time for iPhone X pre order day.
A friend of mine picked this one up a few days ago at a local Best Buy. I have not fooled around with it but he very much likes it. The problem is the price point. I told him to return it and wait for a blow out sale.

So with the pricing on the Pixels not being much different than every other flagship, we can safely say Essential really blew it. If they'd simply put out a phone with a above average/good camera and a stable stock experience, $700 for this phone would be a no brainer.
If the phone had a slightly larger battery, like 3,300mAh to 3,500mAh I'd be all over it. And IP68 certification would've been nice too.
Yup, and for my money I still put this one ahead of the pack as far as compact phones go. And yesterday I got an update and it feels much smoother and haven't seen any of the pauses I did before. They still need to up the frame rate some, especially when scrolling it feels like 30fps instead of 60fps, but it has been much improved. Unfortunately I'm still having Bluetooth issues.
This will be my last weekend with it before sending back, got the return envelope yesterday but have been putting off actually returning it. hoping for some kind of sale so I can purchase again.
Well, I received the camera update today and decided to test it out before sending the phone back, and unfortunately it may have made it worse. While the camera app was kinda slow in loading before, now it crashes for me, crashed 4 times while trying to take this shot.

I don’t understand how they could mess this one up so badly. Poor quality, ok, they don’t have the image processing know-how. But crashes? On their single type of hardware? It boggles my mind, especially for something as relatively simple as a camera app.
Damn... with 5,000 sales, delayed launch, and a shambles of a camera, things don’t look good.
Who is going on to buy this thing now that the big flagships are here or weeks away?

5,000 sales.... wow. Brand Rubin or not, nobody budgets for or invests in such a low figure. They’re haemorrhaging cash.

I think they can still turn it around, seriously the hardware is amazing to hold. If they can do a price cut of around $200 ($499), and have the software figured out (they were saying some great things in their AMA), then I think they have chance. At $499 you can excuse so-so customer service and an ok camera. Plus at the price the other flagships are coming out at, this would make an incredible alternative.

Good for customers to receive this but it underlines how Essential was fine taking money for a device that wasn't ready for release.
Essential was a bid to get bought out. I can't imagine it having much value soon
I'd buy this phone once the price drop hits. I see this going down to $499 not too long away.
