Not one regret. Loving my 8+, and will happily get the 2018 version of the X on launch day.

Yep... not sure why people think the X is just "so much better" than the 8 Plus... the internal hardware is identical.

Enjoy your Face ID and animojis though!
Don't get me wrong, I think the X offers something the 8 doesn't and that's the full screen buttonless operation. The facetime camera is better I think as well.

Basically I'm going to be spending nearly 800+ for a phone now, why not just take the plunge on the X at that point?

If it makes you feel better, the 8+ will likely performs better than the X over the long run due to mature software development and lower screen resolution because of the same chips. You also won't have app issues due to the wonky aspect ratio and notch.

With that said, I pre-ordered the X to replace my 6, which was a tough decision since I was thinking about waiting for the next version for the plus size model (assuming they'll have one).

Don't discount the 8 series yet, especially the Plus.

As someone who will receive the X on release day, the jury is still out for me. I'm waiting to see if the screen size of the X will be enough for me as I'm very partial to the screen size of the Plus.

If the X doesn't pan out for me I can always return it or sell it.

I considered pulling the trigger on an 8 plus with all the rumors of it being around Christmas or after the 1st of the year before delivery of the X. Had I done that I probably would have felt some regret this morning seeing as so many people are getting an 11/3 delivery.

Exactly this. ^

Do I have any regret? Why should I?

The only things the X has that I don't are things I could give 2 flips about... (Face ID, notched OLED, dual OIS, animojis)

A11 Bionic? Yeah I got that.

256GB? Yeah, I got that too.

3GB RAM? Yep... got it.

Couldn't be happier with the 8 Plus. As others have said, I'll consider the X Plus next year.

notched OLED? lol thats a new one...subtle dig at a far superior device

No point in tearing down the X, you're all gonna have to be on iPhones that look like that eventually. I mean this is literally what the future iterations will be based on

Oy! All this gnashing of teeth and hair pulling over rectangular slabs of glass with similar internals, that will be wrapped in some ugly ass case, that noone else will care about or see because their faces will be glued to their rectangular slab wrapped in an ugly ass case.

So does the burn in.

The HD movies I watch on my 8 Plus are gorgeous... so I guess I'm just missing out on what is surely an eye opening improvement.

The 8 is the last of a dying generation of phones. It is the only relevant phone on the market in 2017 to have that lip and chin form factor. For me it would have been sticking with the 7 for another year essentially.

As far as your phone and HD movies, that Retina Display while awesome is 5+ years old. I am not sure how much nicer the OLED will look like, but at least its somewhat current spec.

I wanted a big jump in the form factor, the new authentication technology, etc., I'm a developer so I have a little additional motivation to have an actual device, especially when the display/rez/PPI/layout is a change from previous models.

If the 8 would've been the only phone released this cycle, I may still have updated one of ours phones, like my "carry" 6S+, the jump in performance, improved cameras and water resistance alone would've been worth it. In fact, I may sell my 6S+, an extra 6S we have, and convert that into an 8+. :)

To each their own.

At least you acknowledge that the Retina display is awesome... because I personally don't care how old it is. I have a 2015 Dodge Challenger that is awesome... and it will be awesome 10 years from now too.

I didn't upgrade from the 7, I upgraded from the 6s. (big difference)

The 8 may be the last of a "dying generation" but it still shares the same processor, storage and ram as the new "flagship" X. The differences between the two aren't deal breakers for me. I didn't have to have the X for the dual OIS, OLED, Face ID or animojis.

What was important to me (processor, storage, ram) I've got in the 8 Plus.

Nothing else to say really. I'll definitely consider the X Plus next year... but in the meantime I'm not losing sleep over lacking animojis in my text messages.

To not 'give 2 flips' about them, you sure talk about them quite a bit :D

You forgot to mention the wider, better-aspect-ratio screen of the Plus too, which is a big reason why i stuck to this form factor.

No. I wanted the gold color. So I got the iPhone that had the gold color. Happened to be the iPhone 8 plus. Very happy.

I got the 8+ launch day only to make sure I had a new one in preparation for today. I decided if I get an X quickly, I will give my 8+ to a relative. If not, then keep it. I like my 8+ but got a launch day X 256GB SG coming so someone in my family is getting an unlocked, SG, 256GB 8+.

Ok?

Would it make you feel any better if I said I was in tears every time I pressed my Touch ID button because it's not nearly as secure as Face ID and I don't know how I'm going to survive for the next year using such outdated tech?

I mention animojis because I laughed my ass off at how much time Apple spent on what I consider to be a gimmick at the keynote. Doesn't have a thing to do with liking the feature. But you knew that... you're just trying to stir the pot with your comment.

It's almost 3 years old... which means it's out of style right?

BTW, wasn't aware of any car thread.

No regrets here! The 8 does everything I need, is thinner, lighter, and $300 cheaper. Putting the money saved toward a new lens for my DSLR instead!
I'm in the same boat. I'm keeping my 7 Plus and put the $1350 if you count Apple Care towards the new Olympus 17 mm/1.2 lens.
