I phoned up to cancell my order :)eek: ) 3 days after i ordered and the sales rep told me that interst in the new iMac has been overwhelming (he advised me NOT to cancel, ty to him :p ), thats whats causeing the problem (me thinks)

Nonsense. That's the standard "marketing dpt" reply from a neatly packaged script -- what else do you expect them to say? "Uh, actually, we announced the product 4-6 weeks before its mass productions because our quarterly review was coming up and we had to announce something for Wall Street, otherwise ... "

You'd think the Leader would've learned his lesson from last year's G5 and iMac Rev A delays. but no. He's too busy fronting for Time Mag.

This is typical Apple. Hype up the product, create ludicrous obsessive-compulsive waiting, then stall on its actual release. If you like sitting around for the next month, go for it. You'll probably see this in early Dec.
Anything else would be a big surprise.

10/10/2005 - Ordered the old 20" imac

10/21/2005 - Still processing order - Estimated shipping 10/31/2005

Standard system, no BTO
Totally off-topic, but this illustrates why everyone should use ISO date format.

I got my 20" BTO in this morning. It shipped out middle of last week. Surprise!

And yes, it's magnificent.

Well, I posted something in another thread, but I'll say a few things here too. I'd take pics too, but I haven't gotten around to hooking up my hp printer/reader yet.

It's very quiet, been performing various tasks on it all day and that's had no effect on the noise. Couldn't tell you how much cooler it is internally - I haven't dl'd any software to check that - but it seems to be running fine. To give you a comparison, the cd/dvd drive is significantly louder than the fans.

Performance is snappy, haven't had any slowdowns to speak of no matter what I've thrown at it.

It looks as it does on apple's website, which is to say sleek and quite pretty. The isight's bigger than i was expecting, but it doesn't look bad. It does have at least some focusing ability - I tested that out - and though I've only really messed with it through photobooth, I'm impressed.

Screen is beautiful, very bright and colorful, very crisp. I have yet to watch a dvd on it, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the higher contrast pans out. The magnetized lower corner for the remote seems insignificant, but I've actually come to appreciate the convenience of it. Not sure where the IR port is...I tried to locate it, but got nowhere.

I'm pleased to report that the quality is top-notch...no dead pixels, no bad sectors, and even though there was a huge dent in the box the machine looks pristine.

Not sure what else to say, if anyone has any specific questions I'll check back a little later.

I just got my 17" iMac on Friday. It only took two days from the time it shipped from Shangai to get to where I am in Florida though I did opt for overnight shipping.

Problem is, I had a dead pixel, broken latch on the case, and somewhat warped body so I am sending it back tomorrow (got RMA# and all). Mine was built to order as well with a 250GB HD, but it seems like such a problem that I'm just returning it and buying the new iMac with standard 160GB HD at my local Apple Store tomorrow (they have them in already). I'll pick up a 250GB external HD as well to compensate for the extra space.

But in all, I think its a good move. I'll hide the HD somewhere and make it look very clean so that won't be an issue. It also allows me to return it to the store since it's not BTO instead of having to deal with 800-My-Apple (even though the store is more of a pain to make returns to).

It occurred to me that I can show off my fancy new imac and test out the bluetooth at the same time. The idea was grand, but my phone's camera fell a little short. Nevertheless, here is the 20-incher in all its .1 megapixel glory:

20inch2.jpg

And if you think that's a lot of glory, you should see it outside of frontrow - this is one bright sucker.

IR sensor is behind the apple logo on the front - in the imac (isight) manual

Nah mine was customized with more ram and wireless keyboard.

Still at sent to manufacturing....

it seems that those who ordered upgrades (those who've posted to this thread, anyway) seem to be getting their machines faster than those of us who couldn't spend the extra money right now on more than the basic package.

Apple told me they don't know why my order status STILL shows "processing," and that they're filling orders in the order they were received, yet they couldn't tell me why people who ordered AFTER I did are already getting or are about to get their machines...

that settles it---in my next lifetime I want to be superwealthy and be able to buy all the best toys!

my brother got his and it's really really beautiful. front row is really great, the remote is something i'm gonna be jealous of.

unfortunately the mac came with a single stuck pixel (red) and it's not enough for apple to replace it. sucks.

I ordered the basic 20" model the afternoon/evening after the announcement, and it still says processing order. Shipping date is on or before October 27th, however, so I still have two days to wait. This is my first such purchase from the online Apple Store, and I'm really impatient (especially since I don't actually have a computer at the moment)!

My AppleCare package and extra 1GB RAM (got it from Crucial) are already here.

I got my 20" last Friday - I ordered it the day after it was announced w/ 1GB ram BTO. Ooh its pretty and very fast, at least compared to my ancient powerbook :) PhotoBooth is probably the coolest useless app I've used, and definitely kept me entertained for a while. Front Row is actually more useful than I expected .... although the dorm room situation is very conducive to that sort of thing :)
Add in the DivX quicktime components and Front Row really becomes the local attraction..

Edit: I forgot to mention, I had a problem with the built-in iSight at first. Any images that I took came up all green, even though there was plenty of ambient light and the green iSight-is-on-light was glowing. iChat, PhotoBooth, Account photo, and iMovie didn't recognize anything but a solid color from the iSight. I ended up shutting the machine down for about 10 seconds and then turning it back on - it worked a treat. Restarting didn't work. It hasn't happened since, so I'm hoping it was just a one-time fluke.

Mine states "sent to manufactoring" I got mine straight factory except a wireless keyboard and mouse. Anyone know how long it normally sit in the manufactoring stage? I ordered 1gb of ram from newegg. Should be in about the same time I hope. I originally had ordered 2gb from macsales, but I canceled it after waiting 10 days and still no ship. I am hoping the price will go down later.

guess wonders never cease....I checked my order status 20 minutes ago and it was still processing

just checked a minute ago and it says preparing shipment in one place and shipped in another. how it can be both I don't know, but at least it's finally (maybe) on that "slow boat from china"...;)

no email from Apple to confirm shipping, though. don't they usually send one?

btw, if it did finally ship, they beat their est. date of the 26th by just a few minutes Pacific Daylight Time
