I got my 20" last Friday - I ordered it the day after it was announced w/ 1GB ram BTO. Ooh its pretty and very fast, at least compared to my ancient powerbook :) PhotoBooth is probably the coolest useless app I've used, and definitely kept me entertained for a while. Front Row is actually more useful than I expected .... although the dorm room situation is very conducive to that sort of thing :)
Add in the DivX quicktime components and Front Row really becomes the local attraction..

Edit: I forgot to mention, I had a problem with the built-in iSight at first. Any images that I took came up all green, even though there was plenty of ambient light and the green iSight-is-on-light was glowing. iChat, PhotoBooth, Account photo, and iMovie didn't recognize anything but a solid color from the iSight. I ended up shutting the machine down for about 10 seconds and then turning it back on - it worked a treat. Restarting didn't work. It hasn't happened since, so I'm hoping it was just a one-time fluke.

my brother had the same problem with the isight. we called tech-help and they didn't really know what was going on but we unplugging it and then leaving it for 15 seconds then replugging it in worked. anyone else have this problem?

This is from the Apple press release dated October 12:

The new iMac G5 line will be available next week through the Apple Store® (http://www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers.

"Next week" would have been last week and neither my local Apple Store, nor Amazon (which is where I ordered from), nor PowerMax (who I called in the prospect of switching my order) has seen a single 20" iMac. They haven't even gotten any idea from Apple when they should expect to see them, despite the fact that they were supposed to get them last week. The only reports on this forum of 20" iMacs being shipped have been from people who ordered directly from the Apple Store online.

I wouldn't mind if Amazon were to have run out before they got to my order - but the fact that they haven't gotten any while Apple is already shipping to its online customers is a bit irritating.

I ordered a stock 17" iMac and a new 30GB iPod Video and neither of them have done anything. They were ordered on the 23 with an estimated ship date of November 2nd. I hope they come fast as I will be without a computer come Friday....

I ordered a Stock 17" iMac on Saturday Night 10/22, It just changed to Preparing Shipment Today :) -- estimated ship is 11/2. Which seems very fast compared to how long you guys have been waiting. It never even went to "Sent to Manufacturing" just from Processing order to Preparing Shipment.

Hopefully I'll wake up in the morning, w/ a ship confirm email in my inbox :)

Hope you guys get your iMacs soon too!

for the lucky few who've already gotten their imacs---did you get confirmation emails telling you the machines were being sent, and if so, were the emails sent the day your order status changed to "shipped," or afterwards?

also, has anyone had an order status page showing both "preparing shipment" in the body and "shipped" at the bottom of the page?

thanks!!!

I got a confirmation of shipment the next business day. The webpage gave me a Fedex tracking number so I started using that instead.

Mine didn't show both "preparing shipment" and "shipped" but mine did say "cancelled" and "preparing shipment" for a day before it shipped.

My AppleCare shipped before the computer, so it said Partially Shipped until yesterday. The entire order says "Shipped", as does the AppleCare package, but the computer says "Preparing Shipment"

Got ours

We got ours mid last week. Have it set up next to a 17" we got a few days earlier. Noticelly brighter screen than the 17". 17" runs great, 20" gets lots of spinning beach balls. Seems slow. Don't know what is wrong.
No camera problems. Photobooth is tons of fun. It can be used on any mac with an isight. We tried it. All the customers and employees are playing with it all the time taking pictures of themselves. Front row is fun as well.
Our other 20" haven't shipped yet and it seems like it will be awhile, till they do. Must have been an initial shipment, and then Apple discovered a problem, and is maybe fixing it before shipping it out??:D

i still don't have shipping confirmation OR a tracking number & it's been 24 hrs since the status changed. Apple can't tell me why it shows both shipped & preparing shipment--they said it shouldn't, even though it does--or if it's shipped or not.

guess this is what they call "Apple Time"

lucky you... mine's still shows Preparing Shipment and i ordered before you... So much for first come first served.

Any estimated delivery on yours yet?

Don't feel too bad... mine is shipping from China and it was not a BTO. I paid for 2-3 day shipping but that is not going to happen as it was shipped this morning but won't do anything until tomorrow according to FedEx
