I have a 10.5, and I’m very happy with it. I have it equipped with the keyboard case and pencil. I see the 11: I need this! Then I do the math, 11+keyboard+pencil+AppleCare+tax = $1,984 Canadian...

Yes the 11 is cool. Yes FaceID is probably better. Yes the pencil charging and magnet is novel. Yes it’s faster.

While FaceID is great, touching your finger to the home button to authorize things isn’t so bad. With the Apple Keyboard Case, you can actually attach the first gen pencil to the edge of the case magnetically - I do it all the time. While the 11 is faster, the 10.5 is no slouch.

If the 11 weren’t so expensive, I might go for it. I’m kind of happy my senses came back to me, I am keeping the 10.5. No doubt the 11 is a great iPad, but at the end of the day both do the same things, and the 10.5 does it’s stuff well. Yes USB C is a good change, but I’m not doing anything that will use that, so I’m sticking with the 10.5. It’s just not worth spending that much money when I have something that does 85 to 90% of the same essential functions.

Good decision. To be honest, I would probably have come to the same conclusion if I already had the 10.5”. No matter how tempting. It is an expensive upgrade. And I am all about making the most of what i’ve got. But since I am coming from a dying iPad mini, it’s an easier decision for me. I’m going for the 11” and will use it & be productive on it for as long as I can....no matter what shiney new iPad Pro Apple dangles in front of me next year. So I hear ya. I’ll be doing exactly the same thing you are doing now.

Finally caved today. Played with the 11” in Best Buy and as much as I love my 10.5,
I think the 11” is the most perfect size iPad that’s ever been made. I saw Verizon had the 256 lte available now on their website ( i have yet to see a store have any lte above 64) so did next day shipping along with the new Apple Pencil and the new folio case. I’m used to the Smart Keyboard but have heard bad things about the new folio Keyboard so held off for now. How does the folio case feel? Does it keep the iPad light? I’m going to sell my second gen 12.9 lte and get a third gen 12.9 this year but maybe just a WiFi version of that one. Excited for tomorrow.
In terms of functionality, the new keyboard folio feels identical to the older ASK to me. Not sure what’s not to like. The first time I typed on it, I didn’t even think about it and realize I was trying it for the first time, because it felt so natural—and that’s coming from the 12.9 ASK.

No it isn't. Trust me, I have zero desire for one, even though I was in the Apple store recently (for an unrelated errand). I'm content with the 10.5.

What does the new IPP 11" do that the 10.5 cannot do? Ultimately that's the major reason why I would entertain getting one, but I've not see anything that the 11 does that the 10.5 cannot

There are those people that need to convince themselves they are happy with the older model even though they want the new one. But in this situation, I agree with you 100%.

If the price structure was the same ($650 base) and the accessories weren't upcharged, there "might" be a good argument on convincing yourself to upgrade. But having to pay an extra $150 for the iPad, extra $30 for the pencil, and extra $20 for the keyboard is not worth an extra 0.5 inches and Face ID in my opinion. And since the side bezels are actually thicker on the 11" model, it is "almost" a wash with the bigger top bezels on the 10.5" Pro, at least for me.

I will say however that upgrading from a second gen 12.9 to the new model makes a little more sense to me considering the massive "savings" in size.

I took an extended look at it at the Apple store a couple of days ago and decided to stick with the 10.5 for a while more. It is definitely great, but I’ll wait until developers update their apps for the new res and aspect ratio.

I don't under the reasoning of waiting for developers - thats a given. *IF* you are going to get it why not enjoy the device in the meantime. This is a neutral comment.

Yup. Sold my 10.5 for a decent price and paid about £300 to upgrade to a 256gb 11” - which is worth it to me.

I then thought I’d try the 12.9, loving the bigger screen but concerned it will bend when travelling - likely to go back to the 11 in a bit. Just trying it out for a week longer.

I was content with sticking to the 10.5 seeing as I don't use it as much as I used to and am hardly a power user. Did play with the 11" in store and it is really nice! Sellers are already doing $50 off and no tax so I may still be tempted to upgrade....

If you Own a 10.5” iPad Pro from last year the Only way to avoid getting an 11” is to NOT touch the new 11” iPad Pro if you just pick one up it’s gonna be a done deal.

I played around with the 11" at my local Target last weekend. It definitely got me thinking about selling my 10.5". But as @maflynn mentioned, the 10.5" essentially does the same exact thing the 11" does. Sure the 11" is faster, but the 10.5" is still a very capable device.

I'm sure I'll cave at some point, but the price certainly has certainly made me re-consider if anything.

If there's a particular app that you predominantly use that hasn't been updated (Lightroom, in my case), moving to an 11 now would be a big step backwards compared to the 10.5.

Having said that coming from a 9.7 Pro there’s not much here for Web Browsing, Video watching and that. But had I Not traded in my 9.7” Pro for $250 at the Apple store 2 months ago I would have lost out. I heard ther won’t even take Gen 1 iPad Pro's anymore.

Definitely not true for me - keeping the 10.5". The 11" is nice but the $1700 to replace my 10.5 with an equivalent 11" + accessories is not nice.

I went from a 10.5" Pro, 1st gen Apple Pencil, and Zagg Rugged Messenger keyboard case (had ditched the old ASK for the Zagg a few months back) to a 11" Pro with 2nd gen Apple Pencil and Apple Keboard Folio.

I did not originally plan on doing this--I was going to stick it out with my 10.5" model for another year but as soon as I started seeing the leaks of the new mostly all screen design, I got the bug to upgrade. I sold my 10.5" model and all its accessories back in late August thinking a new model would surely be coming in September. It didn't, and I really regretted selling so early and not sticking to my original plan of waiting a generation.

I don't regret it now.

This 11" Pro is fantastic, the new ASK addressed almost all the things I hated about the old ASK, and the new Pencil is amazing. But even aside from all that, I think these new models set the table for the future of iPad. This will be the design language they stick with for a while, and the internals will keep up with iOS for a very long time. I truly believe that there were supposed to be some major iPad-specific iOS updates in 2018 that got set aside for now in the name of stability. I'm ok with that. I get almost everything done that I need to get done on iOS the way it is, and it makes me all that much more excited for the next couple of WWDCs.

I love it too. Not as much as my Magic Keyboard, but almost as much.

I would have kept my 10.5", but after almost two months with it, it was destroyed in a fire back in July. So now I have the 11". Also lost a 6 month old Apple watch and replaced that this week as well. I hate to say I'm happy about the fire, but I am happy to replace a 10.5" with an 11" and a Series 3 watch with a Series 4 watch!

I caved in :(

First purchased the 256 then returned and got the 1TB with the 6gb RAM

Only reason I went for one is I managed to get Student discount

What is the current student discount, because I’m assuming Apple must have changed it seeing how the student discount on all iPads regardless of type or configuration has been a flat $20.00. I’m sure getting $20 off isn’t the reason you spent $600 more. Curious if they are offering a much better deal now.

Edited to fix spelling error.

The iPad Pro 9.7” to 10.5” upgrade seems like a more significant upgrade to me than the 10.5” to 11”. That upgrade doubled the ram and refresh rate. It significantly improved the camera. And even with those big updates, the 2nd gen was cheaper than the 1st gen if you needed 64GB or more storage.

I’m sure FaceID is more expensive to produce than TouchID, but I don’t see it adding more value to me.

It’s nice that the 11” has a faster processor, but I feel more held back by software than hardware.

Having a small bezel all the way around the screen seems like it is more necessary in a phone than a tablet.

I’ve got the 2nd Gen 12.9 and the 10.5. At home I keep trying to like the 12.9, but it’s cumbersome and I always migrate back to my 10.5. I’ve played with the 2018 12.9 twice and the 11 three times in stores. I feel like the new 12.9 is less unwieldy compared to the old, but I am jaded by my experience with the 2nd gen and feel like I’ll only go back to the smaller iPad. The 11 is great, but when I think about it, I’m mainly interested in having the pencil more handy. I absolutely know I’ll use the pencil more if it’s always nearby and charged. I don’t think the extra half an inch is a strong selling point, and I have never been a big fan of FaceID on my iPhone, so I’m not excited about it on my iPad. So, I think for now I’ll probably sell off some Apple products I need to unload, and keep using my 10.5. Maybe get rid of the 12.9. I’ll wait until I can get a deal on the new iPads, and that will give me time to continue debating which size I’ll get. I do enjoy reading everyone’s thoughts here! Good stuff.

I’m glad people are rushing to get the new 11’ because I just picked up someone’s 4 month old 10.5 256GB cellular + pencil + Apple keyboard cover + Apple leather sleeve + screen protector and an extra cover for $770 USD. Pretty sure that’s a sweet deal

This new design is really really good and I bought it on day one. Anyway, I buy every new iOS product so maybe I'm not a 'normal’ user. Next year if there is no design changes, I may get back the 12.9 for home use. This year the 11-inch first since I bring it to work with me.

Did you buy the 1TB version because of the storage or because of the RAM? Given the nearly 50% price difference between the 256GB and the 1TB version I'd save the money and get the next one when it's available.

I caved in and bought the 11”, mainly because I wanted to upgrade to a 256GB and Cellular iPad. I use it daily at work and also like to use it to edit videos / photos on the go, so the update was worth it!

Does anyone have any side by side pictures of the 10.5 and 11"?? I have seen a few online but wondering if anyone who has purchased has this.

I am going into Apple today to have another look and compare my current 10.5.

I only got the 10.5 in June but I am so tempted because of the screen size difference but in a similar size body :)

The current student discount in the UK for iPad is 5% and Mac 10%

If I did decide to do this when is the last date I could return the iPad?

I reserved it online for Apple store pick up so my last date for clicking the Return Button is the 24th November, if I clicked the Return blue button on the 24th, how many more days after does Apple allow the device to be returned?

I have to admit that I have bought the 11 inch iPad, maxed out with 1Tb and cellular, while having the 10.5 inch already. It’s A bit difficult to justify as cloud storage is much cheaper, but I did need the extra storage and I really like the new will solution for the Apple Pencil. I use the pencil a lot, work, to do lists and in college, but charging has always been a bit of a chore.
Beside storage and pencil upgrades there isn’t much difference between the 10.5 and 11 inch iPads and yet... I have to say that the 11 inch is more than an incremental update. The whole package is much better integrated and the combination of iPad smart keyboard folio and pencil 2 feels much more matured.

Then again, buying an 11 to update to 10.5 is madness if you just compare the specifications and prices.

I returned my iPad Pro 11" and exchanged it for a 12.9" model! Just for additional $200 more; you get alot more iPad functionality and it still great for one handed use too! I love it! The 11" felt sort of small when I was using it along side the 12.9" at the Apple store!
