On my desktop, open a browser window and it tells me I'm offline when I'm not (have to go through the network assistant, it still won't connect and then suddenly it does). The laptop does not have that same problem but they both share an issue with eTorrent. It no longer works, bummer but there has to be another torrent client that can work around it.

I'm not having any real regrets, both my cMBP and 2010 MB are a little snappier than before and my battery life hasn't really been affected. My only issues with El Cap are that the new Disk Utility is oversimplified and the Instant On extra that I use with Audio Hijack Pro doesn't work (although it shouldn't be too long before that gets fixed).

I can exclusively reveal Vuze works. Of course, I only use it for legal purposes (to be precise, I downloaded a Linux distro for my laptop).

And the new Disk Utility sucks donkey ass. I had a USB stick with another Linux distro, "Bodhi Linux 3.1.0" and DU couldn't format it because – I guess – of two full stops. DU from Yosemite? No problems. Also some of my memory sticks are displayed as "Media", no matter what their name actually is.

Did you happen to do a clean install or did you just upgrade from Yosemite or ?

Just did an upgrade on all 3 of my systems from Yosemite to El Capitan.
Full Time Machine Backup as well as a SuperDuper Clone before I started!

No problems at all - all software seems to be working fine so far.
Mail seems a lot snappier at last!

Wondering if any of you who took the plunge and upgraded already. Do you have any regrets or is there any major app that will not run? I am just curious. I have held off from installing to see how many of you have problems.

no regrets, but overall it's really underwhelming for me. As far as apps though I didn't run personally run into any issues.

Yes, it has totally screwed my NAS. I have a WD MyCloud which showed on Finder with no issue for months. Now it keeps getting disconnected, and I need to reboot.

Suggestions?

How do I report a bug to Apple?

I upgraded parallels due to windows 10 issues, so had no issues with el capitan there.
The only software i am having issues with is Downcast podcast downloader keeps crashing. But the will update it.

I have an early 2013 macbook pro 15 retina with 8 gig of ram. And El Capitan sucks, all my browsers Firefox, chrome and safari run like crap,Im getting beachballs. Would a clean install help? Should I do a clean install? Its getting frustrating.

'14 MBP, got my first ever beachball seconds after updating to El Capitan, and I am having a lot of minor, very annoying issues: Mail won't delete messages, Safari doesn't load quickly, and I have to quit and reopen, and for someone reason Safari history shows links as being viewed in Dec 2000. Considering the lack of any useful new features, and the focus on better performance, I wish I had waited until a few updates had happened.

Just upgraded my 2008 Mac Pro (3.1), everything went silky-smooth in barely 20 minutes. Safari seems to run blazingly fast.

However, I will hold off upgrading my business machine (late 2013 rMBP) until release .2 or something as stability is my no. 1 priority right now and I'm very happy with 10.10.5.

I'm having too many issues with Quickbooks Online, so I've restored my MacBook back to Yosemite until it has an update.

well it seems more people are having trouble than the people who aren't. Interesting. At this point I would not recommend upgrading for all until some issues have been addressed. Unless you are brave and don't mind messing with your system trying to fine tune it to El Capitan I would put it on hold at least until 10.11.1 comes out. That's my opinion.

And I will even wait until OS X 10.11.2! Better safe than sorry...

Cheers

I wish I'd waited a bit for the Office issues to be resolved. i honestly lost about a half day of work, due to repeated crashing... seems better now. And I'm on the very latest Office 365, BTW.

By nature the forums will attract those with issue seeking solution, equally there is undoubtedly many with genuine problems. Holding off until the .1/.2 release is often by far the best strategy. This way Apple has more time to fix major issues, as does the third party software & hardware vendors.

Personally I won't consider a .0 OS release these days on any "critical" system as frankly it`s inviting trouble. What disappoints is people are incurring issue with Apple`s own applications, I fail to see how for some "Mail" can go from fully operational under 10.10.5 to being broken under 10.11.0. Am sorry to say this simply comes across as Apple not being sufficiently "invested" to ensure such basic issues do not occur...

My gf has quite a few regrets. Problems with office 11, no browser on OS X will play videos uploaded via Taskstream (web based software used by her university) and her printer and scanner won't work. Also problems with her back up drives preventing her from using Apples time machine to go back. These are just the things she noticed minutes after upgrading.

I've been working diligently to try to get this stuff working correctly as she sit with her jacket on about to head out to buy a PC. She looks at a computer merely as a tool and when a tool doesn't work for her she buys a new tool that will. She doesn't care about an OS as much as how that OS can do the work she need to do for work and school.

Regardless of who is to "blame" I am finding this a bit overwhelming and I doubt an average user would be able to get this stuff working without tons of research distracting them from what they'd need to be doing on a computer. To make matters worse I'm the one who convinced her to get a Mac in the first place so her saying "is it just working yet" isn't helping. Lol

I feel like I'm living in some bizarro world. Every time that I've updated OSX on any of my systems the experience has been horrid. Without fail. I could only look at envy at everyone else who upgraded and experienced better performance and smooth operation.

That is why I stuck with Mavericks when Yosemite came out. But when I heard that Eric Clapton was primarily an optimization/stability release I took the chance and upgraded my late-2013 iMac. The upgrade was smooth. I experienced a minor panic attack when a crucial app that I use stopped working. (it was a Windows app wrapped in Wineskin Winery). Disabling SIP fixed that issue. Other than a (so far) only minor irritation in iWork '09, everything else has been fine. I waited a few days and then upgraded my 2014 11" MBA. Same good experience. I'm shocked.

TL;DR - if you generally don't experience issues upgrading OSX then don't upgrade to Eric Clapton. If updates to OSX historically have been problematic, this is the exception. (tongue-in-cheek) :)

I agree. I also passed on Yosemite but I'm impressed with Captain OSX. The improvement in appearance is a joy (IMO). AND nothing yet has fallen over on my MBA.

Fundamentally that is the unfortunate trend Apple is currently generating. Shorter OS cycles means additional work for the third party developers. As much as we don't want to hear it OS X is not the defining global operating system, Microsoft`s Windows is, which has also just recently been majorly updated. This brings it`s own pressure to bear on the vast majority of third parties whom will obviously prioritise the platform with the greatest coverage first.

All who have asked me, I have recommended that they remain on their current iteration of OS X until Apple releases a minimum of 1-2 point updates, and updates are released for critical applications and peripherals. As there is frankly very little compelling about 10.11 for the average user, and for many El Capitan has become the "fix" that needs fixing regardless if it`s related directly to Apple or third party software/hardware.

Mission control showing Desktop 1 Desktop 2 Desktop 3 instead of thumbnails. No setting to override and I'm about to install BetterTouchTool because this is driving me insane.

Apparently Apple (the company that loves loves Intel integrated or video cards that are at least 2 years old) did this to reduce stutter in Mission Control. Well, I'd rather have sketch performance over poor usability. At least give me a setting so I can override.
