I bought the app for $5 during the postseason. It was great because I could watch and listen to the playoff games while I was in Europe for a while.

What games were normally available during the regular season last year if you paid the $10???

At first randomly selected games. Toward the end all of the out-of-market games that weren't network (fox) games were available, iirc.

i know the app is free but how much was it to watch/listen to games?

it has been $10 for year, which gave you random regular season games (of video)(1 or 2 a week?) ... and then it gave you all of the playoff games (video & audio).

I'm not sure if this gave you all regular season radio feeds or not ?? (but hopefully someone can chime in)

Gameday Audio is included (blackouts do not apply). Video is available for the playoffs, but they are not the network feeds; they are your choice of several fixed cameras.

Okay, so the $10 gives you radio feeds .. that is cool.

So who was it that did the MLB feeds for the playoffs .. I don't recall who it was (was it just the radio feeds???) (I was only watching the Divisional round and the first few games of the NLCS while I was in Europe) ... I do remember that you could switch the camera views. And they kept the camera on the stadium during the commercial breaks too.

Heres the Deal on the Video I had the App last year

If you have a MLB.Tv account you can watch any non black out game or if you dont have a account. you can purchase any non black out game for 99 cents. audio is free for all buyers.

Also, toward the end of the season, they would also have one or (usually) two games each day that were available for free on the app. Blackout rules were still applicable. Typically it was a 7 PM game and then a 10 PM west coast game during the week, and one of the free games on Saturday afternoons was usually picked from the Fox games of the week.

No blackouts on the audio-only feeds, and you could almost always get home and away broadcasts, as well as the national broadcast if it was on ESPN Radio.

In a word, it's amazing. None of the other major sports leagues has anything remotely close that I know of.

A heads up to anyone that wants to get around blackout restrictions: there's an app for jailbroken phones that fakes your location. It's called Fake Location and it turns the 10 dollar MLB app into something worth much more.

I thought it had to do with the billing zip code? Either way I couldn't watch one game out of the entire season iirc due to blackout restrictions. I did buy the app about 5 weeks into the season though.

I think it's by zip code on the Mac but on the iPhone it is by gps.

They might do it by checking both, although I don't know for sure. (But if you don't pay MLB for the full MLB.TV service, how would they even get your billing zip code ... I don't think Apple passes it along to MLB).

At Bat 2010 Release Date!

I opened my MLB At Bat 2009 App to read some news and now there is a banner at the bottom that states:

"Get At Bat 2010 on Feb. 28"

Play Ball!

Are they gonna make us download a new app??
I still have both the At-Bat Lite and the At Bat 2009 that I purchased on my iPhone.

Yep. Since they gave the app out for free it'll be a new version

Hm, but I guess we were thinking that they would just do it as an in-app purchase (so they wouldn't have to make a new app every year). And the free app and paid app could be the same.

Probably a new app so they can add yet new features this year.

Well, they can add features regardless. And can update it whenever.
I would think it would make sense to have one MLB app. That is free, but without paying is pretty much limited to basic features.
Then they could have an in-app purchase for premium (radio & video stuff) for $10 or whatever.
Then they could keep the same app and just keep updating it.

As I mentioned, I have both the At Bat Lite and At Bat 2009 app on my phone right now ... then when I get the new At Bat 2010 app I'd have 3 MLB apps on there and 2 of them will be defunct? That's seems weird. Rather than having the casual fan who maybe has an outdated app on the phone go and download a new app why don't they just keep one app, keep it always up to date, and make the purchased features advertised for those who only have never paid for each given years purchased stuff.

They've never done it that way before. And they won't this time either. With in-app purchases they have to pay Apple 30% of the commission, btw (same as new app).

I hope there is some sort of a hide score option i love the condense games but i would like to try to avoid seeing who win/loss till after watching

They haven't done it that way because in-app purchases weren't possible for free apps before. Which caused many developers to have both a lite app and a paid app. Now that you can have in app purchases, many developers just have one app that is free .. and then inside that app they have paid features that could be $4, $5 for a given feature or say $5 per year or $10 per year.
