I want to further discuss the popularity problem, as not a lot of people are talking about it and I just do not think there is nearly enough awareness. This is SCARY s$&t guys, for real.

Okay, so in the past businesses would grow in popularity primarily by doing jobs, checking in, and getting franchised. Popularity always went one way - up! Of course, part of the problem with the level 50 cap is that it "froze" businesses - aside from franchising, your businesses could not gain or lose popularity.

When you franchise a business, you would gain the accumulated popularity of the previous owner.

Things have changed. It is unclear what exactly Booyah did to the code, but popularity now decreases incrementally over time, so that waiting to franchise or re-franchising is now penalized by an ever-decreasing popularity value unless the owners are constantly playing to raise the values (which with many players at Level 50 is simply not possible).

Part of the unfairness is that those who franchised at the high popularity levels get to keep those inflated values even though future franchisees are getting that same property with a far lower popularity rate. If you click on these properties to purchase, you will often see the "old" popularity value, then the number will change to reflect the current depreciation.

Just look at Disneyland. It was at a high of about 100k popularity. Over the course of the past few days, it sunk to 64k last night when I bought it. I am now locked in at that popularity. Today, the current popularity is 57k! That's a 7k popularity drop over the course of about 15 hrs. Does anyone know long it takes to recoup 7k popularity?

This is pretty horrible and I encourage players to write to Booyah directly and let your voice be heard.

High pop Travel biz

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know a mega travel agency (with 6 figure popularity??)?? Would like to swap it.

I really wish that girl who is late for school, 1000 times a day, would throw me a green buck, every once in a while! lol. Also, there is no chance that I'm putting a skate park in my town, so get over it. haha.

Answer to your question is right here:

I feel the same way about that delinquent school girl. Lol.

Premium Upgrade Looks FYI

Just to expand on GraceGirl's clarification on "Premium Upgrade Looks"
- As GraceGirl said "...when you switch your "Premium Upgrade Look" over to an office to make money w/ the stock exchanges..you Do Not lose it.. Even if you franchised it and didn't pay the upgrade fee in bucks.. Once it is unlocked..."
in addition,
- Buying it only applies to that specific business; even though you bought the look once, it is not unlocked for use on other businesses. (Therefore it follows that if that particular business is sold off, the PUL is also gone.)

GraceGirl: I so agree with you! Just last night I was complaining how the multiple Offices and Stock Exchanges look is boring and I'm about ready to start remodeling my town.

Is it better to buy a business outright or franchise one?

THANK YOU!

Curious...

Does anyone here have Heinz field? I kind of want it, but it would be bucks for me. And before I invest in it I want to know what it makes. When I look it up, all I see is how much it is (ouch), I don't even know what the popularity is....?

Thx

Thanks JenniOR! Feel free to add to that Forum:
http://mytown2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wish&action=display&thread=4

I started it, so we can have a forum just for MyTown2. With multiple threads for different purposes. It makes it a LOT easier for people to find answers to their questions.

When I first came to this thread, I had to sift through 30+ pages to find a few tidbits of info. Now we're at 50 pages!

I encourage everyone to start a profile and add content. It's very simple and free.

Let me know if there is a reason anyone does not want to make the switch and I will try to handle it.

Thanks all.

you are absolutely right and i mentioned it earlier, maybe with a different perspective but the same thing. their prices are decreasing with their popularities. that's why i'm still waiting before franchising a business at a high price. but there are places i franchised before and now with their popularity going down, i feel ripped off. i don't know what booyah is trying to do.

i have a question though. u say level 50 players can't increase the popularity right? i thought the popularity goes up when we check in to a business.

I don't understand either. All I know us my Starbucks is going down and it's going down fast. I sort oa expect the little people to be jumping out of the buildings. Maybe I should make them all two stories

Tracking the Pop and Rev of My Own Town

I updated my spreadsheet (yes a spreadsheet lol!) of my 34 businesses and the key changes as of this morning compared to 2 days ago:

32 businesses popularity remain unchanged with 2 exceptions:

level 10 Curbside Bistro, USA business dropped 246 popularity points (owned outright)
revenue also dropped
6,367 25,766 60,094 128,960
6,620 26,736 62,371 133,851

level 7 La Societe', French business dropped 6,787 popularity points (owned outright)
revenue also dropped
9,151 37,026 86,367 185,469
9,530 38,502 89,909 193,060

As for the revenue:
22 businesses' revenue remained unchanged, 2 dropped (the two above),
but 10 businesses' revenue went up even though their pop remains unchanged.

Granted, this is an example of only one town and I'm certainly not a math whiz, but I don't see a pattern how it's all figured; it seems kind of random.

Looking at how things are going is making it very difficult for me to decide what next to buy...to buy now or wait? to franchise or not to franchise, to buy high or to buy low...? To buy USA or international?
What do you all think?

(I'm not taking all of this seriously.;) They're just questions that pop into my head.)

eta:
Well, how do you like that??!?!? I checked-in to Curbside Bistro, its popularity DROPPED from 803 to 737! Checking-in is suppose to boost popularity! What's up with this?

i have a question though. u say level 50 players can't increase the popularity right? i thought the popularity goes up when we check in to a business.

The popularity is supposed to be +1 for a completed job and +2 for a check-in as I understood it. Franchising differs and I don't know precisely how they determine that but the value I see most often is +20. The thing is, I have noticed that at level 50, the game is not engineered to count jobs or check-ins towards popularity. I do plenty of both each day and since attaining the max level, I am unable to positively influence my popularity AT ALL. The only thing that does raise it is the franchising by other people.

Please understand, while it sucks that Booyah is doing this stuff without any sort of announcement to alert the player base (as they did with the bucks cap), these changes may be for the best long-term. Players ARE taking advantage of the system, which is unhealthy for the game and Booyah's business interests.

That said, they have to take positive steps going the other way. Right now, I can't make my town more popular. The only real way for me to influence it is to buy popular businesses, but the businesses are on a one-way downward slide and I am capped at 36 businesses.

There's also a guy on the leader boards with a popularity of over 2 billion, which is not even remotely possible without manipulating the system code (you can only own 36 bizs and the highest popularity ever was Mixer Bar hitting about 250k...again, do the math). The second highest player is barely over 4 million. Nobody seems to care.

Look, the game is not just about rank. Hell, most of my bizs are local LI favorites that started with almost no popularity, and which I had to build from the ground up. But it is meaningless now until they fix things, and so far all these "changes" have been only negative. :(

about the players who are taking advantage of the system, if we're talking about messing around with a file and getting billions of bucks, i'm all for it. i wouldn't do it myself but i understand it. booyah's buck prices are extremely high, like they're out of their minds, it's ridiculous. i think booyah deserves to be manipulated that way. maybe they learn and reduce the prices to normal.

about cheating the ranking, i don't understand why they do it. i think it's pointless, u don't win anything by being number 1, do u?

i personally don't care about the rankings. i have 16 businesses and 12 of them are local with a max popularity of 7000. i'm playing for fun. i just want my town to be hot :) i want to have the popular businesses.

thanks for the clarification on popularity. i stopped playing my 3 min game since i reached level 50. i'm not in a hurry to earn coins and since there is no point, i stopped with the check-ins also.

Random Musings

Like GraceGirl, I laughed at LovePuppet's remark.

Well, another way to think of it, MT2 is still beta version that Booyah is learning from and will also consider all that's been written here and on Solsville's site.

As for myself, I'm more inclined to hold at 34 businesses, start remodeling, and wait for the next update to see what it includes. No matter what, this is a game just to have fun.

On a positive note, we've built a community and it has been a lot of fun to talk and speculate. So stick around for more! :)

I don't understand either. All I know us my Starbucks is going down and it's going down fast. I sort oa expect the little people to be jumping out of the buildings. Maybe I should make them all two stories

Btw, for folks who have gifted me over last couple of days and not been gifted back, I am making progress on returning favors. At this point, anyone who gifted me twice has been gifted in return, and over next 3-4 days I should be caught up.

Thanks again folks! Hit max bizs and began construction on California section...

Btw Gracegirl, thanks for making me smile each and every day with your wittiness.

Frankly, what pisses me off most about the little girl is her annoying use of the term "grade school." Nobody uses that term in the US.
