Here is gsmarenas battery scores vs the gs5. I guess I'm not the only one that is saying it beats the gs5.

It got longer video playback and longer web browsing and only lost to 3g calling.

The S6 isn't even as good as the iP6 as far as battery life goes. The 6+ blows them both out of the water.

This comes from my personal experience owning all 3.

Gave up my 6 Plus for the S6 edge, but after a week with it I ended up going back tot he 6 Plus. The S6 is a phenomenal phone, but the battery is just plain bad in my opinion. It's not bad compared to the iPhone 6 or HTC One M9 for example, but coming from the 6 Plus it just wasn't acceptable to me.

The screen and build quality are top notch on the S6 and edge though. Samsung did a great job.

exact same reasoning why I went back to my 6+.

For those who returned to the 6+, were you entrenched in the iOS ecosystem? I was considering moving to the 6+, but I feel like $750 for a 16GB one is quite overpriced.

my iPhone is the only Apple device that I have. I just feel its a more complete phone without a bunch of altering and trying to make the device good. the 6+ just works well and with the latest ios update I really have no flaws. I told someone earlier that the phone works so well its almost boring lol. Yeah its an expensive price tag but hey thats Apple.

Those are great reasons to stay with the 6+. Its a great phone with great battery life. For me I don't expect my S6e to get the same battery life as my Note 4. They are 2 different phones. One is a phablet with a larger battery. I do like the form factor on the S6e and that I can use it one handed most of the time. But I do miss the larger screen on my N4 and 6+!

The Nexus 6 I just got is the only Android device I have. As you can see in my signature I am majorly entrenched in the eco system but I dont my phone being the outlier when I can get the stock feel.

I'd stay away from the 16 GB model. You should be able to get a 64 or 128 GB model used for that amount or less. There are a few available on the MR marketplace.

I really do not tinker all that much and the Note 4 and Nexus 6 are every bit as good as the IP 6 Plus. So much so that I do not miss it one bit.

I respect that. I had both the Note 4 and Nexus 6 and I ended up both time going back to the 6 Plus. I really want to love the Nexus 6 but the battery life and camera quality was a dealbreaker. Note 4 was a solid device but I just cant deal with TouchWiz personally.

Android has gotten a lot better over the years and Material Design is a great jump in catching up to Apple's UI/UX, but it's still not quite there. I'm also just not a fan of Android's flow.

I stick to Apple cause of their quality control in both hardware and software. They keep supporting their devices for years with the latest updates and really think through their implementations. Android and Samsung products seem more like a playground of ideas without any solid utility.

But that's my opinion on it. Ultimately, if you enjoy it, you enjoy it. You're not me :p

Apple tends to cripple their older devices so you either can't update to the latest or force you to consider upgrading.

Which in theory might not be such a bad thing (I think).

"Cripple" in the sense of not including all software features? Sorta like the iPhone 4s having Siri while iPhone 4 didn't?

I mean, there will be some feature limitations, which are annoying but understandable. They still offer the latest OS, which is good for latest security, compatibility, and some new stuff.

Better than being stuck to an old OS cause the device manufacturer doesn't update drivers or made the device at minimal spec to reduce costs. Not exactly sure if Samsung has that issue with their devices, but others have.

I haven't owned an older iPhone in a while but is Apple still pushing out updates to 3G and 4's owners?

And my apologies for my lack of experience but like I mentioned it's been a while since I've owned an older iPhone.

iphone 4 was stopped at 7.1.2, not sure about 3gs but support has ended.

there is a grey area for me here, IMO even with security issues, I'd rather have iphone 4 on ios 6 versus ios 7. just for performance reasons

In fairness that's usually after 3-4 years of updates though.

Android you consider yourself lucky getting updates after 12-18 month mark for most OEM's.

My Galaxy Alpha for example has 1 major update in 6 months and will no longer get any more updates. Less than 8 months its pretty much abandoned.

Add to that, mid to low tier devices - you sadly can't expect any major updates in most cases. The software on the device is what your stuck with.

Even stock android type devices have now started experiencing silly delays for software is updates. My moto X 2014 is stuck at 5.0 even though 5.1 has been available for couple of months and have no idea when or if I'll get the next update.

Android generally for updates - sucks.

Thanks for clarifying; again, it's been a while since I've owned a older apple device.
I just wish Android OEMS and Google would get its act together. But there is just too many factors / hindrances & obstacles that mean software updates will likely never ever be as reliable or speedy as Apple's software updates for iOS devices.

Even Nexus 6 has fallen foul to Carriers in regards to updates which just shows how much of a poorer state we are at with the platform comparatively.

I wish Google would put it's foot down with all carriers/OEMs. Just notify all carriers/OEMs that there is a release coming on a certain date and it will be pushed out to all phones. Then it will be up to the carriers/OEMs to make the necessary changes for their devices and send them to Google to incorporate into the release. One point of release and no waiting.....

Went from the iPhone 6 to the s6 edge in gold. I switch phones about every 6 months and I would say this is the best phone I've ever had.

I don't understand why carrier crap can't simply be put on the playstore and cut the need to add their customisations out completely of the stock software.

Indeed personally I'd like to eventually see all parts of OEM software including stock apps and the Launcher itself - make their way to app store so that they can all be updated to newest versions of them without need of a full OTA software update.

So painful when a new launcher version from an OEM comes out and a device less than 6 months old can be stuck on an old launcher indefinitely.

I agree with your last sentence but i think the bolded is about on par with each other. Apples OS hasnt been any better with quality control. Both have their bugs here and there. Android is a OS and they dont make the phones, other companies do and im completly fine with a plastic back. These slippery aluminum and glass backs require a case on my end so whats so quality about that? I dont care if i drop my plastic backs, i can get new backs for $5 and get what i want on them...IF they break. Never had one break.

In some cases yes but they will still get app updates that matter like Maps and such. Andserious question....what is a Samsung Alpha? Never heard of it and ive seen it mentioned before in here. Which carrier is it from?
