I just wish Android OEMS and Google would get its act together. But there is just too many factors / hindrances & obstacles that mean software updates will likely never ever be as reliable or speedy as Apple's software updates for iOS devices.

Even Nexus 6 has fallen foul to Carriers in regards to updates which just shows how much of a poorer state we are at with the platform comparatively.

Preach it! GPE was the answer but carriers hate it and not enough people buy off contract,in the US at least. Nexus 6 has fallen to carriers like you said, I dont have much hope for it to get better. Funny how windows PCs dont have this problem at all really.

In some cases yes but they will still get app updates that matter like Maps and such. Andserious question....what is a Samsung Alpha? Never heard of it and ive seen it mentioned before in here. Which carrier is it from?

Samsung Galaxy Alpha.

Its like a mini Note 4. (Minus stylus)

First of the aluminium frame devices from Samsung and first device to market with Gorilla Glass 4 (beating the Note 4 by a couple of weeks). Late Sept/October 2014 release.

It was one of many MRU purchases last year :) lol.

European model has the octo Exynos chipset resulting in benchmark scores often higher than the snapdragon Note 4 in antutu.

US model had snapdragon and poorer performance and battery.

It has exactly same camera sensor as the S5 and Note 4 but Samsung limited it software wise to capture in 12mp rather than 16mp. It still shot 4k video.

1800mah battery, but I would get 4+ hours SOT without issue (actually slightly better than my S6 Edge).

Move the headphone jack to the bottom in that picture and it sure looks like a Galaxy S6

I haven't owned an older iPhone in a while but is Apple still pushing out updates to 3G and 4's owners?

And my apologies for my lack of experience but like I mentioned it's been a while since I've owned an older iPhone.
Every year it goes up a model. iOS7 was compatible with iPhone 4 and up. iOS8 is compatible with iPhone 4s and up. iOS9 will most likely be for iPhone 5 and up, though as it is a possible performance-related version, they might keep the 4s.

As another said, 3-4 years seems to be the software support cycle, which is better than many Android phones being unable to upgrade their OS (lots of Gingerbread and Jelly Bean devices still released)

iphone 4 was stopped at 7.1.2, not sure about 3gs but support has ended.

there is a grey area for me here, IMO even with security issues, I'd rather have iphone 4 on ios 6 versus ios 7. just for performance reasons

iPad 2 running 8.3. I am happy to get the updates and 8.3 is every bit as good as 7.1.2.

Imo iPad 2 is best on iOS 6 for performance but at this point the App Store pretty much requires iOS 7. I agree that the updates are overall good, but should you feel the update is not worth it, you are stuck and cannot go back. I agree that 8 runs as good as 7. Except the transition effects seem to hit my iPad air pretty good, so I've disabled them w/ reduce motion and reduce transparency.

I'm updating one of my wife's student ipad 2s on iOS 6.1.3 to ios 8 right now and crying a little bit :p

Pretty much is a very common complaint, don't know why apple can't either address the performance or allow one to go back.

I have an iPad 3 and Air and the 3 slowed down noticeably with iOS8.x

I tolerate it.

Can't understand why there are such differences same software different hardware.

I've decided to leave iOS on my next phone upgrade. After being originally impressed with the S6 edge I've utimately determined I will wait for the Note 5 edge to be released and hold on with my iP5 until then.

Assuming the note has a removable battery, plus the expandable card, plus quad HD resolution, plus a fully functioning "edge" (not just a gimmick) it will be a world beater of a phone.

I prefer the screen on the S6 over the iP and frankly I'm a bit bored with the ecosystem. Maybe I'll leave and miss it but frankly iOS has done nothing that significantly improved functionality for me in generations.

I just got the S6 edge, having sold my 6 plus. I could not be more impressed, I love the phone and especially the screen. IOS has become boring to me and I was even jailbroken! The apple watch price point was also a factor. I have so many choices with android wear.

Please report back how battery life works out for you.

I traded my iPhone 5 for Galaxy S6 at Verizon, and after five days with the S6 I exchanged it for an iPhone 6. The S6 has a better screen and camera, but I prefer the iPhone 6 otherwise. IMO the iPhone 6 is the perfect size for a phone. For my use I just don't see the need for anything larger than 4.7 inches. Everyone has different sized hands, and for me the iPhone 6 with the Apple leather case fits like a glove. I felt uncomfortable holding the S6 naked, and with a case it was too large.

The only thing I like better about Android is I think Google's Messenger app has a prettier interface than the iOS Messages app. Same goes for both the Android and Touch Wiz dialer. They look better and Apple needs to spice it up a little, IMO. I think Android widgets are ugly, so I don't care for or miss that. Apple has done a much better job by putting widgets in the Notification Center. I'm looking forward to Apple moving over to AMOLED in the future and adding OIS to the iPhone 6S camera.

Can I ask where you sold your IPhone?

I'm staying away from all things android. I "upgraded" my iphone 4 to a Galaxy S4 and only lasted 36 hours. The amount of intrusive bloatware and a necessary anti-virus was a huge turn off. I'm quite happy with the pain free iphone 6 and ipad Air.

To each his own. What ever phone or platform works for you is great!
But every time I hear someone base their opinions on Android from an S4...I cringle a little. That was not a great experience for you I am sure. But these days with the N4 and S6 the issues you had with the S4 are probably non existent now.

My S6 needed 7 or 8 cycles before reaching its full capacity. Almost sold it due to the seemingly poor battery life. Now 24 - 48 hours are no problem any longer.

After a few cycles, my 64gb S6 reached 6hrs of screen time yesterday on a single charge.

Well as mentioned, you dont get the full updates all the time with iOS. If you get an update with Android, you get the whole thing and if no new OS update, you can still update the apps and even get some features of the new OS.

Using a anti virus is never neccessary. The S6 comes with Lookout but i disabled it. No need for it.

You must be referencing some old style or limit Android OS capability. I've had widgets and notifications in a pull down like what iOS 8.x offers on my Note 3 for a while now.

As with just about anything on Android, it's a simple add on that works beautifully. You can pull down notifications and see updates from anywhere, including the home screen and from inside any app.
