That would be the way to solve the argument. I despise Apple's mice so wouldn't want to pay for one (the one that came with my iMac is still sitting in the box), but it gives the option for those who need the peripherals.

Also skipped the mouse this time round. I remember the one ages ago I got for an iMac and loathed it. But their trackpads are amazing. Hoping this black key keyboard has a nice feel to it. I like their MBP key feel generally, though feels a little insubstantial compared to MX Keys.

When you bought an iMac, the kb/mouse were paired at the factory to your computer ready to go out of the box. Those were the small details that apple was built on and now it's gone
The iMac is an "all-in-one" machine. So get everything you could possible need. Computer, display, speakers, webcam and mouse and keyboard. The Studio is not. Different disciplines need different input devices and there are many specialised input devices.
Well, the Mac mini was designed for really poor people, so that doesn't count
😄 Really?

I agree that it would make sense to offer some kind of bundle for people who actually need them it definitely doesn't feel like a money grab from Apple that they are not included.

Would including peripherals have impacted the Studio's pricing? Maybe, but I doubt that's the primary reason why Apple didn't include them.
You're correct. Aside from what the market wants (BYO), it will become quite obvious when the package shows up on their doorstep.

The mini, the Studio, the 2013 MP all share something in common. A keyboard would not fit in the box. They would have to make the packaging significantly larger to accommodate the size of the keyboard. That is not the Apple way. Aside from wasteful additional packaging, it would significantly increase shipping costs.

The iMac, the MP 5,1 and MP 7,1 all have packaging that can accommodate a keyboard without making the packaging unnecessarily larger.

There must be a lot of people too young to remember or too old to be able to remember that, yes, from the very beginning, lower pricing was the primary reason that the Mac mini did not include peripherals.

Yeah it's pretty stupid. The iMac came with keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Not surprised Apple is now discontinuing the iMac in lieu of this Mac studio. They figured out they can nickel and dime us even more by charging us separately for the computer, the monitor, the keyboard and the mouse all sold separately.

It's as pathetic as when they stopped including chargers with the iPhone for "environmental reasons".

It makes sense for the Mini, certainly. I'm still not convinced it's equally important a reason for the Studio, from Apple's point of view. The Studio might be good value for the money for its intended target audience, but it wasn't built to be cheap.

The studio isn't a low priced machine, nor was my last Mini!

Who actually uses apples mouse and kb though. It’s trash.
I do. I really like all of their peripherals, though I agree that they should be an add-on and not included with an accompanying price increase.

I think having these separate plays into that “modularity” narrative they tried to give with the Mac Studio’s unveiling.

I like the Apple wireless keyboard. It has just the right amount of travel for me. I always swap the mouse out for a trackpad though.
How long does it last, and can it work while charging? I've never owned the Magic keyboard...

I think it’s somewhat ridiculous not to include a keyboard and mouse as standard. It very much positions the Studio as a more “pro” Mac Mini.

Personally though i’ll never go back to a non-mechanical after getting the Keychron K2. Even better it comes with Mac keys and in proper ISO layout.

Still love the Magic Mouse and there appears to be no alternatives, if you want the multitouch for quick spaces navigation - which I do.
So you think it’s ridiculous that they don’t include a keyboard and mouse — and at the same time you prefer the Keychron K2 keyboard and it sounds like you also have a Magic Mouse? What would you do with the keyboard and mouse if they included them?

I also don't think it should be a forced included bundle.
But it would have been nice to add it as an option, and maybe a little bundle discount, not having to buy keyboard and trackpad at full price.
Maybe they anticipated users for the Studio as existing Mac desktop users who already had these accessories? Not a bad idea though.

Just because I choose not to use what should be included, does not mean others should go without.

No doubt Apple have done their research, so what I feel doesn't really matter. That won't make me change my opinion though :)

FYI, the Magic mouse will be handed-down with the iMac. I'll have to purchase another separately. The keyboard is being used on an old Mac Mini, which had a broken keyboard.

Meh, I’ve got a drawer full of Apple keyboards and mice. It doesn’t bother me personally but I can see where it’d be a pain especially if you don’t have them on hand. Maybe have it included and You get a discount if you opt out.

Hmm, Apple do offer a choice to choose a keyboard and mouse, during the checkout process.
But, in my case, I prefer Logitech's MX Keys and MX Master 3.

Many Mac "desktops" (in recent times, NOT including iMacs) have come without keyboards or mice...

You do understand that Apple charges money for those things, they don't give them away for free? The price of the iMac includes the cost of providing a magic keyboard and mouse with it. If it didn't come with those items, it would be a $100 less.

So what you're in reality asking is for Apple to raise the price of the Studio by a $100, and force everyone to pay for a keyboard and mouse they may not need (not to mention the environmental waste).

Apple could give buyer option to NOT include KB and mouse with $100 reduction in price!

Bear in mind that the Studio will likely come in a compact, cube-shaped box, which would need to be much bigger / longer to include a full-size keyboard. It would have a lot of empty volume and take up more space in inventory.

Plus they'd either have to up the Studio's price, or miss the opportunity to up-sell a keyboard at purchase. Personally, I love Apple's pro wireless keyboard, but couldn't justify spending £200 to replace my existing one just for TouchID.

Apple's mice are a different story. They've always been pure form over function, for a peripheral that really needs to be ergonomic. Logitech all the way for me.

Funny how we can all be so different. I rate the Apple keyboards as average at best, but the magic mouse is absolutely excellent - nothing else comes close to the productivity it provides. Note that I don't game though, which no-doubt would change my opinion.
