The OP is not alone. The iphone is boring. And it's all due to the lack of customisation in ios. It needs an overhaul. Blind freddy can see that.
In 2010 ios introduced folders, which was awesome, we could finally put apps into different folders. Who doesn't like the folders? Nobody. Well guess what people, folders is a form of customisation. In the 8 years since, we have seen a few more forms of minor customisation such as opening up the keyboard to 3rd party keyboards, widgets on the dedicated widgets page and most recently, the ability to customise control centre. But it's now 2018, and as Tim Cook says, it's time to take it to the next level.
All one has to do is google "post a pic of your Note 8 home screen" to realise how stagnant and blood clottingly dehabilitating the iphone home screen has become. Most of the Note 8 home screen pics I have seen are magnificent. And on the Note 8 display, boy they look slick. I'm not suggesting that ios should go over the top like being able to choose your web browser or messages app, or even something sick like re-rooting your phone, but surely iphone users should now, in 2018, be able to customise their home screen any which way they like. The boring grid of apps is long past its used by date.
Trust me, just as EVERYONE embraced folders, almost everyone would embrace customisation. I'm tipping 99.99% of iphone users would change their homescreen in some form or another. And hence, no more boredom.
And for those who like the boring grid of apps, fine, leave your homescreen the way it is. Have the grid of apps straight out of the box if you want. No one is forcing you to change. But give those that want change the ability to change. The inability to change has become oppressive...and...boring.
I'm also tipping that if customisation ever comes to ios, Apple will get back a lot of its customers that it list to android because of a lack of customisation. It's a win/win situation for all. Unfortunately the donkeys currently running Apple can't see that.
