Honestly the griping over space gray not being available chaps my ass. How lame of a person do you have to be to say “hmm yes, make my gray more gray.” I’m soured on space gray, there’s an entire spectrum of wonderful colors in several pallet styles that you could want and you’re so worried about looking “professional” that you want dark gray.
You can see by the secret transcript we obtained from Apple’s R&D dungeon that Tim C. was sick of the gray too.... (post 302)

Here's what the blue iMac would look like beside our current iMac, using the AR link on the Apple website.

I suppose I should have tidied up a bit first.

I also tried it with a silver iMac, but I still don't want it.

It is a hardware limitation that no components, as they fail, may be replaced by any party — be it an end-user, a repair technician, or Apple. The lifetime of the entire product is dependent on any single point of failure not occurring. Most acutely, the internal component most likely to fail for most units is the soldered SSD.
ok, because all of the iPhones and iPads fail because of their soldered on storage chips fail...

I kinda agree. I'm not too hung up on the colours so much but the white bezel is a huge turn off. Although if I was looking at getting one of the new iMacs I think I would go for a coloured iMac - especially the orange one - for a splash of colour on my mostly white/grey/silver desk.

If not black bezels then how about matching the bezels to the colour on the back of the Mac?

Can you demonstrate evidence that soldered SSD is a significant point of failure?

Now, this is only anecdotal data but I have professionally maintained over a hundred Macs with SSDs (more then half of which had soldered or proprietary SSD), and we never had a single SSD or RAM failure. Most frequent things were keyboards, ports, display coating issues, with a few total system failures (blow capacitor/power system/GPU). Actually, the single mac-related SSD failure on my watch was a personal pre-retina MacBook Pro which I have upgraded to a Samsung SSD — it died after a year and half of use if I remember correctly. Which is funny, since it was the only non-Apple SSD I used (and the only one that failed).

The only real problem with soldered SSD is that in the very unlikely case of SSD failure, you end up shelving a higher repair bill that you would otherwise. Then again, Apple must feel confident enough about there SSD reliability since they now offer unlimited extended warranty+accident coverage.

It's not about taboo words. It's about the immaturity of pretending that your own personal preference is somehow related to gender. Nobody would give a damn if OP would say that they don't like the look of these machines, it's their taste and their privilege. But declaring that they are "feminine" while heavily suggesting that this makes them "inferior" somehow is basic bigotry.
Go back and read his post again. He never suggested that feminine was inferior.

I think the coloured bezels look a little less in-your-face than the black. Although now I'm looking at it I'm not sure if I like the fresher white bezels...

Declaring and suggesting are 2 different things. The OP clearly declared that the new iMacs are “feminine” to him (and in other posts, they are feminine to everybody and anybody who says otherwise is a disingenuous liar). The tone of the OP’s posts and the clearly negative opinion he expressed of the new iMacs “heavily suggests,” as @leman put it, that the OP holds these “feminine” items as inferior and worthy of ridicule.

Even the silver version, maybe because of the white bezels, is hard to imagine in a guy’s room or office.

I’m not opposed to color, but the particular colors chosen and the pastel-looking tone of the stands. It just veers pretty hard into the feminine lane.

Black bezels and a black Apple logo on the front might go a long way to improve the silver iMac to my macho manly eyes.
Macho manly :D

Maybe it’s time for you to stop associating color with gender....
Actually I would think it’s the opposite offense of associating gender with sex characteristics that would be the bigger offense in today’s world. When people identify as a gender, they are associating with a culturally constructed set of preferences and behaviors that are often (or usually) distinct from and different than the opposite (or other) genders. As far as I can tell associating color with meaning is a near culturally universal, and those meanings are often entangled with gender.

Nonsense! In the OPs first post he stated that he thought the colors were heading down a feminine lane. Fine. That’s his opinion. The only ones attributing anything negative or inferior to the use of the word feminine are you and others that attached beginning in the 2nd post.

I present unto the court, exhibit A:
Why? They look like they are marketed towards women specifically.

The OP made more than one post in this thread, including some calling any who disagree with him disingenuous or liars.

That overwhelmingly negative and antagonistic tone and attitude of the posts “heavily suggests” the negative connotation. Perhaps you are interpreting this differently? The OP likes the colors of these iMacs? I think you’re misreading the OP if you think he is neutral or in favor of these colors.

That’s an enormous leap you’re making… attributing to the OP motives that he thinks women inferior and worthy of ridicule simply because of his choice to use the word feminine to describe colors...and then not backing down when he was ruthlessly attacked.

The OP has dug his heels in and made it clear that he feels the decides are mainly targeted at females.

To me that is sexist against men because he feels men, as a result, should not buy these new iMacs simply because they're pastel colored.

Personally I feel that any male who feels that way may perhaps not have confidence in their own masculinity.

Yes, I am very ruthless with my pictures of manly men wearing pink. If you thought those were ruthless, wait until I get Macho Man Randy Savage involved, wearing every single iMac color at once!

Geez....the guy simply said he felt the colors were feminine. Your the one conjuring up all of these motives. If you have a different opinion than the OP, great...express it. No need to demonize the guy because he has a different opinion than you.

You are conveniently forgetting that the OP called everybody that disagrees with him a liar. Not a great way to win friends and influence people in my experience.

He also said they were designed for women. Which is sexist.

Is pink a male or female color? Please answer this question specifically.
