Ah! I'd not followed that generation (android user here!)

I found the XR to be an exciting release for 2018, because it skimmed off the $999 pricing offering same silicon standard, before 11 compared to 11 Pro's and now of course SE2, no PWM that's present on OLEDs, and added some much needed color to the lineup. And added stellar next level battery life. a 2900 mAH phone powering 750p display with an A12, is a good outlook for battery and performance. And Plus/Max sized scaling, instead of the regular 8/X/XS/11 Pro non-max.

I hope SE3 sees 5C level colors, if an SE3 ever comes. Probably will near another half decade.

I've only had SE2 a few hours, but I'm thoroughly digging the 4.7" form. Never owned a 4.7" for keeps. Even though a lot of people think its stale because they've had some lineage of 6/6s/7/8, I always went Plus before going X-style after 5/SE so its brand new to me.

Wait? Your SE does it to.

I understand the older models did it, but my wife’s 11 doesn’t, which is why I wanted to confirm. So yours is pretty much like mine?

Yes white SE 256.
Similar on the 7 and different noise on the 6. I don’t have an 11 but my 11 Pro is not affected either. It seems to be specific to the 6/6s/7/8/SE2 form factor.

Here it is in my cheap $3 Walmart ONN TPU holdover case against my 2016 NTB in Silver. Just cuz.

I think the part that will have me unapologetically loving this phone to pieces, is the value. And portability. It melts in my pocket. I recall 8 being a lot heavier, but maybe because I Was used to no glass back, even 7+ being bigger than 8 obviously.

$250 for a beautiful screen one-handable at times (compared to XR and Plus's, and even X when I had it) 128GB, isn't even going to make me hesitate if I like one of the later latest and greatest especially because I've had a gift card forever to expend for this reason. What is there to not love for $250?

I remember going 'all out' and getting the 64GB Gold SE1 in 2016 for $499 and what value I felt from that and going smaller while having the latest speed. Doesnt feel like 4 years ago either.

How is the battery compared to the 8?

I didn't have an 8, and its only been a few hours, and mostly on wifi, but it seems pretty good to me.

I was expecting it to be garbage/disappointing ish minimum battery life compared to my XR. And mediocre reviews on that aspect. But anything that's better than my horrendous X was, even if not on XR Level, I'll be happy with for the size and a 1900 mAH battery. I don't think you tubers general evaluation on this is fair, running Pokemon Go nonstop to stress test it, or leaving a video running for hours on end like its gonna be your iPAd.

I think Apple was being conservative saying "around same as 8." I'm sure there's at least a bit of a boost from latest iOS shipping with the device, and more 'tuned' for it than an 8 that got two major iOS updates (even if it still runs great, its A11 on iOS 13 vs. A13 on iOS 13, powering that few pixels with that much compute overhead)

This is gonna be me. I had the 6 for a short time before going to 6+, and I’ve had big phones ever since. Even though I’ve had the desire for a smaller phone when I’ve seen and held them, I never went back. I’m really excited about it.

I am pumped about the white!!

What was your experience in jumping from the 6S to this one?

I was originally intending to wait for the next gen iphone so that I could get one with a great camera (especially for night). but man. i'm starting to get second thoughts.

How is the camera?
It was pretty seamless. I haven’t tried the camera, but going from a battery at 80% to brand new is noticeable. When it heats up later I’ll do some side by side comparisons.
I wanted the smaller 5 form factor though.

Thank you @arn for pinning threads like this one in the front page, otherwise, probably I could’ve never found it in the first place. I’m not sure if there’s an official iPhone SE thread, so I’ll ask it here:

Is 3D Touch enabled on this phone, even if unofficially? I read that the 2020 SE carries the same screen as the iPhone 8

How many of you bought the SE who previously bashed thick bezels, a home button and an aging design? Where are the wonderful ones who justified having a notch???

Two things:

1.)I personally never ‘bashed thick bezels’, ‘home button and aging design’. [I also owned the 2016 SE.]

2.) And you can include me and one of the ‘wonderful ones‘, because the notch is justified for embedding the technology. It’s not an aesthetic choice, it’s a technological decision to house components for biometric security components.

Nope, no Force Touch here.

Oh that’s a pity. Hopefully it just lacks the pressure sensitive layer, and they haven’t disabled by software 3D Touch on the same iPhone 8 screen.

I got mine and I love it. Question for every other SE owner in here -

I noticed if I tap anywhere on the top half of the phone (especially near the camera) I hear a slight rattle noise. I shake the phone (to undo something) I can also hear a slight rattle near the camera. Is this normal?
I’d say it is totally normal. My iPhone 8 rattles as well, just a bit quieter. Maybe those are the OIS pieces that move inside the lens?

This thread is making me seriously consider selling my 11 Pro and buying the SE. I was always the person to upgrade to the latest flagship until the XR came out, and I bought that. I regretted not have the dual lens, so when the 11 Pro came out I bought it instead of upgrading to the 11. In hindsight, I loved everything about my XR. My favorite iPhone I ever had was my 7 Plus, bezels and all. I love the size and features for the price of this new SE. I don’t think I‘ll ever buy the flagship iPhone again so long as they offer phones like this.

cancelled my Walmart preorder, to get it in store. Eligibility reset instantly.

picked up a 128gb white

I won the screen lottery wooo! looks great, clean bright uniform good colors and white whites and solid blacks. For a longevity model, this is key.

Also same AT&T deal, $0 upfront +just pay taxes on the subsidized price ($249), and $8.3 x 30 for $249 net.

Will buyout the phone after a month or two. Saddle brown 8 leather case on the way too!

Came with iOS 13.4

and curiously came with the stronger SIM ejector tool, whereas I saw others are getting the flat one that isn't made of liquid titanium whatever

--

my very first impressions are that white was the way to go!

Congrats! I really like the white with the all black face on the new SE. It’s the best looking of the iPhone 6 based designed iPhones.

I considered buying the SE some time ago. But I decided that 1) it wasn’t quite worth it having an iPhone 8, and 2) in September we’ll have a true smaller bezel-less iPhone, the 5,4” one, and I think I’ll end up getting that one. Honestly I’m really excited about that small iPhone, but until I can get it I’m pretty happy with my iPhone 8.

I think the thing that other (Well some) members will face, is ‘buyers remorse’ will set in, with the terms of selling their more expensive/larger iPhone. Now, if you have an iPad or Mac you can resort to for viewing your media and other content, and you can accept the fact that a smaller iPhone may not have everything the larger iPhones have, then by all means, I would do it.

But during your 14 days of a trial with the SE, I would probably switch Sim cards to see if you like it before you ultimately sell your 11 Pro.

And I think it’s also worth noting, if you’re a frequent member that visit sites like this, it’s really easy to get caught up in ‘hype Trains’, but that eventually wears off very quickly, and when you purchase the SE, [it is a great phone], but there are sacrifices that you have to make that dawn on you later on.

I’m not knocking the SE, but it is worth pointing out you have to see the opposing side. But again, it depends if you have other Apple products that you can resort to watching/utilizing your media versus a 4.7 inch display only. For most of us, we have Macs/iPads, etc. For some, they don’t and the 4.7 inch iPhone would be their only option.

I myself, having larger displays with iPhones, would have a difficult time downgrading to a 4.7 inch display. As another member alluded to, I am keeping watch on the 5.4” if it’s everything I expect it to be.

I agree. It's gonna be a large size downgrade (I'm coming from 11). I'm thinking I'll hold on to my 11 for a week or so. I'm just gonna put my SIM in the SE before I turn it on.

Maybe so, but many, including myself don't agree with it and would rather sacrifice the technology. We have voted with our wallets and purchased the X line. I never plan too.

It's absolutely an aesthetic choice. Apple could've chosen to have a small bezel to house the FaceID components. They just chose not to.

It's absolutely an aesthetic choice.

So you’re insinuating something without a source stating that ‘component miniaturization‘ was proven to be something that was ready upon Face ID’s release For the sake of being ‘aesthetic’? I’d wager you’re probably not accurate at all with this assessment. Unless you’re an Apple engineer that can tell me otherwise, then what you’re merely saying is nothing more than an opinion. Face ID is just now starting to see the reduction of component Miniaturization where it’s allowing the Notch to reduce, likely for this iPhone for 2020.

There’s a fair bit of tech in the notch, not just a speaker and a camera. You’ve got the infrared dot projector, light sensor, speaker, cameras... the next notch is due to be smaller.

Least it’s not as bad as the android devices that copied the notch with nothing more than a camera and a speaker in it for no reason.

I never mentioned component miniaturization. My post in full:

Apple chose to use a notch instead of small bezel (smaller bezel than what's required for the round TouchID button anyway). Notch vs forehead/chin bezels is an aesthetic/design decision.

I got my 64GB red model on Friday and absolutely love it. I upgraded from an iPhone 8 that had a terribly cracked screen, so take what you will from this, but it feels much faster and more polished. Well done Apple!

Excellent points made here. While I have contemplated selling my 11 Pro and acquiring the new SE, I definitely feel that I would have to be okay with some trade off’s. Like you mentioned, I have an iPad and MacBook Pro for media consumption, photo editing and MS Office.

The screen of the 11 Pro is gorgeous. Not saying the SE screen isn’t as good, but being used to OLED display over the past couple years, I’d have to be okay with going back to an LCD device.

I would second the recommendation of swapping SIM cards while using the SE (which I would do). I certainly would not make a hasty decision and sell the 11 Pro before fully trying out the SE.

You've already paid partial depreciation on the 11 Pro. Unless the size is still too much or the OLED is giving you eyestrain or migraines, I don't see much point switching to the SE.

If an LCD version of the iPhone 11 Pro (or 5.8" version of iPhone 11) had been available at around $650-750, I probably would've upgraded already and wouldn't be considering the SE for myself.

Dunno. I came from a 6S that I still like, I just wanted an update. I'll probably replace the battery on my 6s and upgrade my son.
