ok weirdly i just got the “your order isnt quite ready for pick up email/taking longer than expected” email even though my order status is preparing (which is usually a good sign). I’m gonna hold onto my preorder for now…. maybe this is an automated email that everyone gets? starting to worry

Just got the email that says it’s not quite yet and that they’ll email me when it’s ready for pickup. Weirdly enough, the progress bar jumped and it says “Ready for pickup today. We’ll email you when it’s ready.”

Yeah, call them - my ready-for-pickup email says they'll hold it until Thursday Sept 30th so I'd expect some action would need to be taken if I weren't able to get there until afterward.
I placed an order 5 am cst this morning. Currently saying "Preparing for pickup today" hopefully its true 13 Pro Max 256GB Blue

Yup. Status depends on whether the individual stores received sufficient stock to fulfill their preorders. Seems clear there were some mismatches in some cases; whether an overage of orders or too few phones received is unknown.
This is my first Best Buy iPhone preorder. I recall from previous years multiple posts about preorders not being available for pick up despite all prior communications from Best Buy stating the phone would be ready on launch day.
Right now, I'm in the "your pre-order isn't quite ready" e-mail with a "ready for pickup on release day" order status group.
I do like this better than sitting by the window and watching for delivery trucks all day, but it would've been nice to have a "ready for pickup" when the store opened.

This is strange. My local store shows they have the model I want in stock, but my preorder is still in the “Ready for Pickup on Release Date: Today” stage and I got an email last night with the “not quite ready for pickup” status.
I would have switched my pickup order to another store showing stock but not sure that makes sense now since my original store also shows stock. And actually, it’s the only store in the area that shows “in stock.” Every other store shows “low stock.” Best Buy’s website even says that I could order today and receive it tomorrow if I have it shipped.
Let’s see what happens, I guess. I preordered last Friday night, after having to cancel a Verizon order where I accidentally chose the 30 month plan instead of 24.

My preorder was at the same status. I looked up the phone again at that location and it wasn’t available anymore. I cancelled that order and ordered again at a different store with stock and 15 mins later got an email saying my order is ready to be picked up now
Interesting… I would do that, but the only store with stock of the model I want now is the same one I preordered through, LOL. Probably doesn’t make sense to cancel the preorder and place a new one for pickup at the same store, so I think I’ll have to be patient and hope the store is just slow to process their preorder phones.
At 8:15AM this morning, I got an email stating the order is ready for pickup. So it seems cancelling my original order and switching to another store early this morning that seemed to have stock worked.
Oddly, I got that email at 8:15A but the website's order page wasn't updated until about 10:30A when a text message was sent and the webpage was also updated.
We'll see what happens when I go there this afternoon

Pre-ordered 3 phones all with trade-in. 2 of them were ready for pickup, the third is still in limbo. Weird process where they had to scan my thumbprint for both phones (to make sure they weren't stolen, I'm told). Also, none of the new sim cards that they installed worked properly, I had to swap out with the sim cards in my old phones.

My original pre-order from earlier this week was still at "Preparing" this morning, and I also got the "Your order is not quite ready yet" email last night, so I didn't have high hopes. I put in another order at another store that showed one left in stock this morning, and it became ready for pickup a little while ago. After my second order was confirmed for a pick-up, I canceled my original pre-order. Putting in my second order took a few attempts (I tried last night originally) because I kept getting an error at the T-Mobile verification step. So I should have a new phone later today!

just picked up my mini in blue. only one other person in line. they said it had been a surprisingly sparse crowd for release day.
my wife's pink phone is still on back order — although they thought it might have been on the truck that just arrived.
