So what day do you guys think we will get this public beta

Once again: any date anyone says in this thread is 100% guess, based on nothing at all. Nobody knows. People at Apple probably don't even know the exact date they want to do it.

I'll bet the public beta will just be an early Golden Master release. Guessing as late as Apple can go with it still technically being "summer."

The more I read about the issues developers are finding in Yosemite, the more I'm happy that Apple is holding off the public beta. As much as I want to get my hands on Yosemite, I'd rather it was a largely well-functioning piece of software. It sounds like lots of basic functions and apps are just not working at all in Yosemite. I imagine they'll want to get these ironed out before giving it to the public, beta or not.

----------

They said "summer", which means any time between now and September 22.

I heard Summer ended on September 21st.

One thing I'll mention is that Apple did say in the keynote that if you signed up for the public beta program, you'd receive access to public betas throughout the summer. Which means there will be a few public betas, given throughout the summer; so I think we should see at least the first beta before the end of this month, and then maybe one in August and then September.

While I'm hopeful, I'll remain skeptical. I forgot what exactly it was now, but during the MobileMe keynote they announced a feature or two that never saw the light of day. Wish I could remember what they were. Anyway, point is, you can't analyze every word that comes out of their mouth and count is as fact.

No. I don't think they'll stagger it. I believe it'll be everyone at once. It's only a million people.

Just a speculation.....

I know this is all speculation; but I am figuring we'll see the public beta either tomorrow or Tuesday; and if not this week, then next Monday and Tuesday. I think this would make the most sense since it is about time for another DP, and I would think DP 4 would be stable enough to be a public beta, with enough features read for testing. Again, this is COMPLETELY speculation on my part, but I think the beginning of this week or the beginning of the next would make a lot of sense.

God, a BP1 release this week would be AWESOME! So sick of waiting now.

Im a bit worried that perhaps i didn't get in the first one million. Because an Apple Care rep told me that he and his co-workers signed up, but he didn't receive the code, and some of his co-workers already did; supposedly they got the codes the day of WWDC.

The Applecare rep is either misinformed or lying. Nobody has received access to a public beta as of yet.

Ah, that is relieving. I figured that if the codes were released already, at least everyone who signed up right after WWDC would post here that they got their codes. Plus Apple specifically said "Summer" in the keynote. If they got the codes right after WWDC it would not be in line with what Apple announced about the public beta.

If the public beta would be available to all signed up users outside Apple, surely there would be a story on the front page and one or one hundred threads about that release?

Certainly. And Apple specifically said a public beta throughout the summer, not the day of WWDC. They specifically said it was available as a developer preview available that day, and as a public beta in summer. If the codes really went out on June 2, they would have said that the public beta was available that day.

There were a lot of people on MacRumors (and I'm sure elsewhere) erroneously posting on June 2nd (WWDC) that they had received their "public beta" codes, when in fact, they were actually referring to the Developer Preview redemption codes. The Apple employee probably made the same mistake.

OS X Yosemite Public Beta 1 tomorrow?

Right, please don't bite my head off on this one. It's simply speculation. I am not the kind of user who's going to install Yosemite on my primary machine and use it. I'll be installing it on a rarely used Mac and I know it's not ready for Prime Time.

We are now around half way through the Summer, Apple said that there would be Yosemite Beta's released 'throughout the Summer' this would indicate that there would not be one beta released this summer, but multiple beta's (e.g more than two). Therefore, this is total speculation, but wouldn't the next Yosemite Beta (which is rumoured for tomorrow) be perfect time for the Public Beta to be released? Especially since many of the more major bugs have been worked out of the system now.

This would mean potentially mean (providing the 2 week gap continues)
PB1 - Monday 21st July
PB2 - Monday 4th August
PB3 - Monday 18th August

Also, I wonder if Apple could disable iCloud features within the Public Beta to avoid mass data loss from users who think it's ready for prime time?

So, what do you think? Let's get the discussion going!

That would make sense. But supposedly they weren't developers. I think the AppleCare rep had some facts wrong. Maybe cause they work at Apple they already have developer accounts or something.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple employees were given early access to Yosemite.

I'm suspecting we could get Yosemite PB1 tomorrow, if Yosemite B4 is released, it would be about the right time, mid summer.
