Im a bit worried that perhaps i didn't get in the first one million. Because an Apple Care rep told me that he and his co-workers signed up, but he didn't receive the code, and some of his co-workers already did; supposedly they got the codes the day of WWDC.

I am more than confident that you got in with the first million. If you signed up within a week of WWDC, you'll be fine. I imagine the website stopped allowing sign ups after 1 million though, but I could be wrong about that.

I'm just bracing for that email to come through or for that MacRumors post saying that people have begun receiving their public beta codes. I'll think I'll SQUEE with joy.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple employees were given early access to Yosemite.

I think that is what happened with this AppleCare rep.

----------

Right, please don't bite my head off on this one. It's simply speculation. I am not the kind of user who's going to install Yosemite on my primary machine and use it. I'll be installing it on a rarely used Mac and I know it's not ready for Prime Time.

We are now around half way through the Summer, Apple said that there would be Yosemite Beta's released 'throughout the Summer' this would indicate that there would not be one beta released this summer, but multiple beta's (e.g more than two). Therefore, this is total speculation, but wouldn't the next Yosemite Beta (which is rumoured for tomorrow) be perfect time for the Public Beta to be released? Especially since many of the more major bugs have been worked out of the system now.

This would mean potentially mean (providing the 2 week gap continues)
PB1 - Monday 21st July
PB2 - Monday 4th August
PB3 - Monday 18th August

Also, I wonder if Apple could disable iCloud features within the Public Beta to avoid mass data loss from users who think it's ready for prime time?

So, what do you think? Let's get the discussion going!

I completely agree! I am soooooo hopeful that Ill receive an email tomorrow. I think it makes perfect sense. PLEASE Apple, iWant Yosemite!

That makes me feel sooooooo relieved. I do think the website would say something like "we have already received 1 million sign ups, sorry" if it was completely full. I doubt that Apple would give the confirmation message to people who didn't get in. But I have that confirmation, so heres hoping for a release tomorrow!

I'd be surprised too be honest it they hold off on PB1 until 4th August, that's well into the Summer, not 'throughout the Summer'. Plus, although it's not ready for 'normal users' to use Yosemite yet, from what i've heard its ready for 'Prosumers' who are likely the people who'll have signed up to the developer program.

The pieces are all fitting together now: it does make perfect sense for Apple to release this beta tomorrow. Here's hoping!!!:)

Yes, let's hope so! It does make sense though, I've sort of been expecting this date for a while, it just feels right, people were surprised when it wasn't DP3, so releasing it now would be perfect timing, whilst releasing it with DP5 would be deemed too late I think.

However, I think people should remember, it isn't ready for prime time, and not to install it on a primary Mac. Also, I'd advise not using iCloud features.

Definitely good advice, Ill be installing it in a separate partition, so my data in Mavericks will be safe and sound.

Yes, good idea. I wish Apple would advise people to do this, it could be disastrous if people simply install it like they would when Yosemite is eventually released in the Fall and end up loosing a lot of data that quite possible (they haven't backed up).

Don't even worry about it. I think the signup page is still active even today. If there weren't any more spots I think Apple would have removed the link or not let you sign up.

Is this thread affecting your life in any negative way? ...... Thought so.
The answer is that non of them have what I want

No, it does not affect my life, but as you can see, your thread has been merged with that other thread. But then again, your thread was creatively unique.

I think so too. I don't see why Apple would leave the option to sign up if they already had 1 million beta testers; as long as the page is still up and people get the sign up confirmation, I'd say it hasn't reached 1 million yet.

Today could be the day....

Ok guys, this could be the day; at what time of day do you think we would see this PB 1? Around noon ET?

And about the AppleCare rep who told me his co-workers had received the codes already; it is definitely a mistake on his part, cause here is the quote from the beta signup page, "Sign up today, and the beta software will be available for you to install soon." Available to install "soon," not the day of WWDC, which is supposedly when the rep's co-workers got their codes. So now I have absolute proof that the beta has not been released yet. Phew, I was still a bit nervous about that ;)

Just out of curiosity, why do you think today could be the day?

I am looking at the previous release cycles for betas, which is usually every two weeks. That would put DP4 right on schedule for today. And DP4 seems like a good time for Apple to release a public beta. They did say throughout the summer; I think that anytime later, for example if they waited till DP5 for the pubic beta perhaps on August 4, would be a bit late for the first PB. Since they said there would be access to public betas "throughout the summer" implying there would be multiple betas, I think August 4 would be a bit late for the first PB.
Of course this is all speculation, but I do think it makes a lot of sense for it to be released today.

That seems like sound reasoning. Let's hope you're right so we can start playing with it sooner, rather than later.

Anything offered here would be pure speculation, but I'm curious what people's thoughts are on this.. If PB1 is released around the same time as DP4 (which will likely be today, or this week sometime) and PB1 will probably be the same build as DP4, I wonder what the release timing will be like.. Released at the same time? Staggered by a day or two?

It will be here when it gets here. Micro-parsing comments by Tim Cook and Craig Federighi really isn't going to help much.

And as xero9 (and others) have already stated, it’s all speculation. Go do something productive until it gets here. SMH

Just imagine, if you will, how this place would act if Christmas was not always on December 25! When is it? When will Santa be here? LOL
