The space gray is a dark horse, easy to ignore at first but if you really look at it it's a beautiful phone.

I completely ignored the space gray at first, ended up wanting the gold at launch like most, decided maybe it was too much for me and switched to the only other option in my mind, the silver/white, and then saw the SG in store and got that in the end.
All three colours have a beautiful design in my opinion. I went with silver because I love the plain stainless steel band. It’s reminiscent of the original iPhone design.

Agreed, they all are beautiful.

I quite liked the silver/white as well because it reminded me most of the iPhone 4 (my favorite iPhone design) and is just very classy.

Can't go wrong with any color this time around and honestly if it was randomized I'd be happy with any color I ended up with.

I wouldn't. It's been a decent change of pace since I've had a black iPhone since the 4.

I do plan to go back to SG for the next iteration though.

Bought silver XS today - so far amazing device and design, has a real premium touch.

It's a fad colour, like all the new ones Apple tries to sell with a new model.

Last year, I thought the silver was the 'show pony' model, but this years gold trumps it & makes the silver look normal.

Space Grey will always be the timeless classic, for mine.

I purchased a Gold colored XS this time because I wanted to try something different.

I went to apple store to check out the colors, and found myself for first time drawn to the Gold color. I feel it looks good in the stainless steel finish, its darker than past when it was on an aluminum body. I think it looks sharp - enjoy your phone!

Colours are such a subjective thing. I used the iPhone 3G in white, iPhone 5 in space grey, the iPhone 7 in Silver and now the XS Max in Silver. I don't have a particular favourite although I'm a minimalist person and the gold was never an option for me. It's always black/white. In Apple's language, space grey/silver. I was sure about my colour on the 3G, 5 but I was torn between Matte black and Silver in the 7. The same happened with the XS Max. I chose to view both my previous phones in the Apple store and then went with what my heart was set on. I love how Apple has experimented with colours on the XR, but I'm not buying anything but black/white in my lifetime. I just can't get past those two.

I ordered the gold XS and initially was disappointed that it didn't look like last year's gold. I am very happy with it now and have it in an Apple leather navy case. I think it would look great in saddle tan and forest green as well. My favorite part is the gold rim that does not get scratched like last year's stainless steel.

I think what classifies as a "timeless classic" is highly subjective.
Gold anything has existed since the beginning of time.
Silver is basically white which is pretty timeless as well esp. on cars.

Apple are basically rebels in the electronics world in some ways (trend setters and conversely followers lol), which is why I don't think they
waste time showcasing space gray/black...it's sleek and sells itself but also can look very generic.
They may showcase the black this year, esp. if the camera bump looks the way it might.

In the end, I like them all...a solid case covers up the back and they all look the same from the front.

I like the gold stainless on the X series much less than the gold aluminum (the true gold - not the rosy gold). I think the gold stainless just has a more cheesy (for lack of a better word) look. Honestly though, I’m not a huge fan of the silver stainless either - maybe I just don’t like shiny.

I had the silver XS Max, but had to go to an XR because of OLED headaches/eye strain. I got the white, because the silver aluminum is my favorite overall. In fact, my phone, watch and iPad all match now, and my OC personality kinda likes it that way. ;-p
