I’ve never been a fan of prior gold iPhones, but the gold in my XS Max is very pretty. I like that it’s not a bright shiny gold, I think that would be too over the top. I also like the back glass colour. It seems to change colour with the lighting and I think that’s pretty cool. I showed it at a family indoor lunch yesterday and it seemed quite pale, perhaps a creamy white at the time. Other times, I see the pinkish colour or a shimmering gold effect.
With the release of the X last year, my feeling of the space grey colour was that it looked too boring now when I’d always picked black in the past since I like a black bezel. So I went silver with the X and had no regrets there, the silver edge and white black looked the best last year.
Now to this year, I picked gold because it looked great in all the Apple marketing and YouTube reviews. I did think that it looked more of a true gold colour in that Apple marketing and then people made fun of iJustine when she called it a rose gold colour, but she was actually pretty close with her description. I’ve been describing it more like a copper gold though. As far as gold goes though, I think that it is good for it to be not a real flashy gold and that the bronze gold is more suitable for a phone. I think that the gold XS Max does look really pretty. I must say that I probably still think that silver is the best though, maybe, but I’m happy with the gold and it’s a change for me. I’m planning on keeping it for 2-3 years. By then I’ll be after a change of colour again and I’ll see what’s on offer, but I could return to silver.
As far as cases go, I don’t know why people think they don’t go. I’ve got a clear Spigen one on at the moment to show the colour of the phone, but I also got the cape cod blue leather case. I think the gold looks good with the Apple leather cases, but it does hide the back. But then if you are one of those people who now regrets gold, once you put it in a leather case, you just see a touch of gold and I think you are going to forget about it.
