I got XS gold but not sure if i like it or not, I got a cheap transparent case which is attracting all kinds of finger prints which is possibly clouding my judgement.

I just looked at it in the sun and it actually has a pink color to it. It's up in the air for me too.

I love it. So happy i went with the “gold.” From my experience, everyone was swooning over the gold in the store so I doubt many people will have regrets if they demo beforehand.

I’ve never been a fan of prior gold iPhones, but the gold in my XS Max is very pretty. I like that it’s not a bright shiny gold, I think that would be too over the top. I also like the back glass colour. It seems to change colour with the lighting and I think that’s pretty cool. I showed it at a family indoor lunch yesterday and it seemed quite pale, perhaps a creamy white at the time. Other times, I see the pinkish colour or a shimmering gold effect.

With the release of the X last year, my feeling of the space grey colour was that it looked too boring now when I’d always picked black in the past since I like a black bezel. So I went silver with the X and had no regrets there, the silver edge and white black looked the best last year.

Now to this year, I picked gold because it looked great in all the Apple marketing and YouTube reviews. I did think that it looked more of a true gold colour in that Apple marketing and then people made fun of iJustine when she called it a rose gold colour, but she was actually pretty close with her description. I’ve been describing it more like a copper gold though. As far as gold goes though, I think that it is good for it to be not a real flashy gold and that the bronze gold is more suitable for a phone. I think that the gold XS Max does look really pretty. I must say that I probably still think that silver is the best though, maybe, but I’m happy with the gold and it’s a change for me. I’m planning on keeping it for 2-3 years. By then I’ll be after a change of colour again and I’ll see what’s on offer, but I could return to silver.

As far as cases go, I don’t know why people think they don’t go. I’ve got a clear Spigen one on at the moment to show the colour of the phone, but I also got the cape cod blue leather case. I think the gold looks good with the Apple leather cases, but it does hide the back. But then if you are one of those people who now regrets gold, once you put it in a leather case, you just see a touch of gold and I think you are going to forget about it.

I tried it at the store today. I like the way it looks, but in hand, the SS gold feels like im holding chrome.

Regretting gold.

Comparing it to my white X, it doesn't feel as nice in the hand.
The chrome on the white one feels much more smoother and like you're actually touching metal whereas the gold frame on the XS feels "sticky" and doesn't feel metallic but more rubber like...almost as if I've got a case on it.

Plus, it’s a fingerprint magnet, after hold the phone for a few minutes the frame just looks dirty.
Whereas the chrome frame on my X remains shiny and fingerprint-less.

Actually, if even the glass feels smoother on the white X.

Anyone else noticed this, or is there something wrong with my XS?

the gold is the best.

Don't the cases cover up almost all of the metal color anyway?

I always just go with the color that is least similar to my prior two phones, so it's gold for me this year.
I got this Louis Vuitton folio case and the metal part of the case is exposed, but there is a lip protect it. The gold looks wonderful with the LV brown.

Not. At. All.

They should have called it “Copper” or “Bronze” because the SS band looks like a penny that’s been around a few years - darker than new, but not dull or rusted. It also has a deep rose gold undertone that can be seen in certain light, but it’s not the dominant shade at all.

As for the glass back, it takes on a wide range of colors depending on the directness and intensity of the light. Mine has been in mostly a soft beige-blush to beige-bronze range, but it’s the sheen from the glass that makes it look better than it sounds.

I would say see it at the Apple store or elsewhere, but viewing it inside doesn’t do it justice either.

It’s really beautiful to me.

I put mine in this to get a contrast - Space Gray would be boring with a black case, did that with my matte black 7, black case, clear back, it was... boring.

Lots of guys (myself included) are getting the gold. If people think it’s a girl color, let them. I think it’s super Smexy.

Always bought black until this cycle. No regrets at all. It’s so good looking I can’t bring myself to put a case on it.

Thanks for this response! All of the manly man comments are weirding me out.

Bought gold for a change and really like it. In the store it was the gold people were talking about. It’s in the blue leather apple case and looks superb. Love it....also male and sexuality not challenged haha

If speaking only of Apple cases, the forest green or the midnight blue leather cases with the gold phone creates a nice combo.

I like the gold color. I saw it at the Apple store. It’s fine for guys or gals. I ordered the silver myself because I
like the way it looks better.

You guys need to start posting pics of the gold phones in cases. I’m thinking about gold but am concerned about limited case paring colors.

If you have, or intend, getting the Apple Watch, choose the AW first then match the ‘phone to the watch. You’re wearing the watch and you’ll probably choose ‘your’ colour. I took this route in choosing and surprised myself coming up with silver AW and matching sports loop. Alas, now I’ve chosen both I’ve realised the total cost is equivalent to a laptop. So I smiled at my SE and promised it a new product red style case.
