Well you'd see that coming if you knew that one iphone 4S costs 200$ of components / assembly & stocking fees and is sold about 650$ to operators who'll then sell it to you 200$ + the rest diluted into your monthly fees. I don't belive that iOS is worth 450$ but hey. It's R&D budget you know. A budget that's the same wether theres 10 or 10 million phones sold, and ergo a budget that is for apple non existant if we account for the profits in volume they are making.
The overall iphone screen quality is all but premium "light leaks, brown tints, dead pixels..." since they handed production of the screens to other firms than LG the quality check is just nonsense there are about 3 different if not 4 screen makers with all their own quality issues. The iphone 4 only had ONE supplier with a great quality check. Now it's worse than asus screens quality checks. Put side by side an iphone 4 and a 4S and you'll see what I mean...

Already been discussed here. If you care for a good screen buy an old iphone 4 and replace the old battery. And before the trolling starts I'd mention I took a look at these pictures on a UX32 1920x1080 Calibrated Matte IPS display that covers nearly all the RGB gammut.
