Would you trade battery life for that?

In a heartbeat.

BTW I'm kind of surprised this issue of AoD and LED blinking lights have bubbled up now. For those who are tied to the Apple ecosystem you have nowhere else to go. With monopoly you will not get everything you want.

The most vocal aren’t really in apple ecosytem most don’t even have an iPhone...
But some do, it might vary.

But this happens every year.

It may or may not, but that’s up to apple.

That keeps getting parroted but lacks facts.
If that were the case:

1.Tim would have stockpiled the AirPods so that their wouldn’t be any supply issues. Supply was constrained for nearly two years after launch. Demand caught everybody by surprise even apple.

2.AirPods would have been released before or at least at the same time as the iPhone 7, not a couple of months later.

3, The 7 would not had a headphone to lightning adapter in the box, neither would the 8plus or the x.

Had even one of those things happened I would agree with you. But the fact is I and a lot of other consumers have been using Bluetooth headsets for a long time. Apple version was just superior; iCloud pairing, and battery case.

Sure others had the battery case feature, I’m looking at you Motorola, but they never worked, the headphones, the charging case worked fine.

Answer this question; do you honestly believe if apple released the AirPods with the 6s they wouldn’t have sold the as many?

Do they?
It’s still cheaper then what google charges, you do know the sell their version for 12 dollars vs apples 9. They used to charge 20 dollars at the pixel 2 launch.

Are they a “very reedy” as well? Or do some poster grade google on a curve?

You act like as if there is no direct correlation between those two metrics obviously there is.

Hahahahaha, that was funny.

Then your easily insulted by a power brick .

Actually all companies are for profit, apple is just better at it. Atleast their components are always industry leading, components such as the a12 with a neural engine, nvme storage, 3dfacial biometrics, edge to Edge display, no chin and forhead. those don’t come cheap.

Personally I don’t understand anyone that bought n9 over the iPhone X’s. With the n9 you get old components, compared to the iPhone X’s, but hey they give you extra ram a headphone jack, led lights , aod, and a fast charger and a bunch of other freebies.

Even with a 50% discount it still old tech and a dated design.

I personally buy the phone on its merits and not extras in the box.

And there would be a thread on macrumors about it.

Well I think apple is better off not implementing aod but here we are.

You don’t need a power brick in the box to fast charge. MacBook’s, powerbanks iPad power bricks. Etc etc. All fast charge the iPhone.

I have a rav power pd brick with multiple USB ports I bought last year to charge my many devices, or my many iPad power bricks that come free that I never really use. Even my MacBook power brick will fast charge the iPhone. So....
Kinda more of the Same.

Do you want any of mine, I have about 8 or 9 that came free with past iPhones
They are all still in the box, never used one.

I have a couple of sure se846 headphones, bought just bought a lightning cable directly from sure.

Anyway enjoy whatever device you now have.
I have an 8+ until apple changes how they implement pwm. Apple makes the best phones, so I’m not going back to android.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but you seem like someone who backs the apple company line no matter what they do. You’re talking about the note 9 as if it’s a $200 Motorola phone made for a prepaid phone plan. Your disdain for Android is readily apparent, and you don’t seem to question apple on anything they do. That’s fine. You paid for all your apple gear, and can feel however you want. You just seem extremely closed minded that android does ANYTHING better than apple. There are many things apple is far behind on compared to apple, but that’s life. I like apple products a lot too, but that doesn’t give them a free pass or mean I won’t question something. You have replied that AOD isn’t necessary cause someone can buy an Apple Watch. And then you said including a fast charging brick in the box isn’t necessary because an iPad charger is an option. Both times your solution to something that could have come in the box is using another apple product. Not everyone is as well off as you are. I’m sure some people on here had to save for weeks plus sell their old phone just to be able to pay the down payment on a new max. And your solution to someone wanting an AOD and fast charging is to buy an apple watch and an iPad, or just go buy an android phone instead and enjoy that? Apple is cheap. There is no way around it and no argument can convince me otherwise. If they want the money that bad then add $90 to the price of every phone and let the buyer think they got something for “free”. Apple has no problem raising the prices every year and pricing many people out of their newest tech. Shouldn’t those who pay the silly high prices get a different charger than the one that came with an SE?

I get chewed out for this every time I bring it up....

If they did offer an always on display, all I would want is a colored dot in the corner (different color for different notifications) to simulate the LED notification that apple will never give us. Wouldn't be the same as a bright LED notification light but would be better than the entire phone itself lighting up and buying a $400+ extension of your phone.

I have an 8+ until apple changes how they implement pwm. Apple makes the best phones, so I’m not going back to android.

Again enjoy whatever device you have.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but you seem like someone who backs the apple company line no matter what they do.

Offering cutting edge technology is considered “whatever they do?” Sign me up.

Who else offers the same ecosystem as apple?

I back a company with my wallet, if they have what I want, I pay it. Simple.

You’re talking about the note 9 as if it’s a $200 Motorola phone made for a prepaid phone plan.

Those are your words. the note 9 is not worth the rrp, not from a hardware and components perspective and not in 2018 and poor sales reflect that.

How much is the poco phone again?

Your disdain for Android is readily apparent, and you don’t seem to question apple on anything they do. That’s fine. You paid for all your apple gear, and can feel however you want. You just seem extremely closed minded that android does ANYTHING better than apple.

When vertu offered android I had a couple of models, but they aren’t around anymore.

I don’t mind paying for android if it’s warranted
It’s not, so I don’t.

Your not making much sense. Android doesn’t really compete with iOS. iPhone sure iOS not really. When it comes to ecosystem, android wear, android tablets, chrome books, android tv; they are all inferior, why should I or anyone pay for an alternative that is an inferior product to what apple offers.

Is there an alternative to iTunes movie store?

There isn’t, i tried google play, and guess what it’s region locked, meaning if you make a purchase from the UK store you can’t play it anywhere else.

It’s severely disjointed. Support almost non existent, and you label that close minded?

Because aod, headphone jacks and led light. . That was funny.

There are many things apple is far behind on compared to apple, but that’s life. I like apple products a lot too, but that doesn’t give them a free pass or mean I won’t question something

This doesn’t make any sense again.
How you live your life is your prerogative?

I don’t give passes to companies I either buy their product or I don’t.

I’m not forced to do anything and neither are you.
But your coming off as extremely entitled, expecting apple to pay for your lunch just because You bought an 8plus or returned an iPhone X’s max.

The features were announced either make it work or get something else. To think you can come into macforums and demand a feature that will magically appear in an update tomorrow is extremely naive.

You have replied that AOD isn’t necessary cause someone can buy an Apple Watch. And then you said including a fast charging brick in the box isn’t necessary because an iPad charger is an option. Both times your solution to something that could have come in the box is using another apple product.

I replied. That apple offered different alternatives, Apple Watch, ask Siri, or you know actually pick up your phone.

This was in response to your friend that never answers your calls or text, blaming a lack of aod for it is extremely lacking.

Aod doesn’t really work if your phone is in your pocket or in a bag. Apple Watch does work so it’s not an apples to apples comparison. But works and judging from sales, works really well.

You claim to have one, and yet here you are.

Not everyone is as well off as you are. I’m sure some people on here had to save for weeks plus sell their old phone just to be able to pay the down payment on a new max.

You keep moving the goal posts, aod, fast charging, greed, cheap, apple insulting you.

You mentioned disdain earlier, you seem to have a disdain for apple and it’s practices, but keep buying their products. Yeah that doesn’t sound right.

You realize your talking about buying 1k and up device trying illicit sympathy. In the real world you would be laughed out of the room.

I worked hard my entire life never expected a handout or showed entitlement. I got to where I am with my own two hands. That shouldn’t bother you so much, tony.

And your solution to someone wanting an AOD and fast charging is to buy an apple watch and an iPad, or just go buy an android phone instead and enjoy that?

No, I expect them to get a device that have the features they want.
You do understand such a simple concept, don’t you?

Apple is cheap.

Are they?

because you feel entitled to handout or a freebie?

Apple products aren’t cheap, neither are the services they offer.

Using your logic, Porsche and Ferrari are cheap too.

There is no way around it and no argument can convince me otherwise.

Convince you? Why would I do that

Hate apple as much as you want your rationalizations behind it are entertaining to say the least.

I just don’t understand why keep buying their products.
You know because you believe they are greedy, cheap, all about profits, and personally insult you because of a power brick.

And you keep buying their products.

If they want the money that bad then add $90 to the price of every phone and let the buyer think they got something for “free”.

Your solution is to increase prices and lie to their customers. Ok.

Your argument is extremely circular and not very well thought out.

Apple has no problem raising the prices every year and pricing many people out of their newest tech.

Maybe if put all the apple hate away for a minute and realize apple actually didn’t increase prices this year.

The added a new model and and higher storage tier.

I believe what you meant to say was you wanted apple to decrease prices this year, but instead suggested that apple increase prices by 90 dollars.

Shouldn’t those who pay the silly high prices get a different charger than the one that came with an SE?
Wait so prices are now silly I thought you wanted apple to increase prices by 90 dollars.

Again your argument has been extremely circular not very well thought out.
Than you for the afternoon entertainment.

Ps you didn’t answer my question is google greedy and cheap as well for charging 20 dollars for a headphone dongle last year or 12 dollars this year, compared to apple at 9....or do you give them a free pass?

Because that would be considered hypocritical.

FFR I’ll give you credit, you are thorough.

Yes, google is also greedy. Anyone who charges that much for a dongle that costs .30 to produce is. I think we are going to have to agree to disagree. It’s like a Democrat trying to talk to a republican about politics. I’ll take the loss on this one.

I don’t see a need for it ( for myself). The phone lights up with a call or notification etc. if I want to know the time, I look at my watch or ask Siri what the time is etc.

Just an FYI...the Qi charger in our car is in a sort of cubby that is black and you can't see very well, especially at night. I can see my Android just fine, because it has always on display. My spouse has left her iPhone in the car more than once, because you can't see it. I've made a couple of return trips after dropping her off when I got home and realized she didn't have her phone. Not a criticism, just a sharing.

Not a issue on the Galaxy phones.

I just think it’s a nice feature to just glance at the screen without having to turn the whole display on, especially in darker lit surroundings

Especially true with the Tesla Model 3.

Nope, not only a pointless feature but also very annoying too

Imagine having it on your bedside table at night, it would be so annoying in a dark room. Literally cannot fathom why anybody would want this, or comprehend what any possible advantage would be

Don't people have alarm clocks that they can see at night? Hardly seems like something all that new or different in that respect.

Even that aside, something like this would generally be an option, so people can decide for themselves if they want to make sure of it or not.

Optional? No, if I don't want to use it then you can't have it as an option - it will ruin my experience. /s

This is a typical ifans uninformed blah :)
You can set when it is activated (just like DND schedule)

An ‘Always on display’ for the Apple Watch, yes, I see the practicality for glancing down at your wrist. I personally wouldn’t care for the iPhone always on display, when ‘raise to wake’ suffices for my needs.

You can schedule it so it's off at night if you wish. It's very practical to be able to glance at your phone and see the time, battery life, notifications, etc. without having to pick up your phone and turn it on. It saves battery life. It's one of the best features of Android

I had a Note and appreciated the Always On Display and was one of the few features I missed. Especially with wireless charging and having the tilted ones where I can see notifications. AOD would come in handy.

With the Apple Watch it's not as necessary. There's time it fails me, but the majority of the time when I move my wrist it shows.

I’d take AoD for my Xs Max, that would be awesome. All your notifications at a glance without waking the whole screen

Especially at night or in low lit areas like movie theaters, etc to just glance at the screen without waking it up to a bright screen is great. The few weeks I had the Note 7 before the recall a few years ago, was the one time I left Apple to try something new, I fell in love with that feature.

Would like to see it but not until there’s better battery technology available

It doesn’t mean that Apple can’t implement ‘An always on display’ even with the current lithium ion technology. As for your comment about a better battery, that’s likely know where even near ready for smart phone tech, at least not yet, as lithium ion is very much relevant still.
