After months I found out that over the speaker grill there are three mini hairlines scratches, the rest of the phone is pristine. I just gave up playing the lottery, last year the 12 pro came with chipping painting and dents.

They’ll have plausible deniability if you discovered these imperfections months later.

Imperfections suck though. I wouldn’t be happy with paint chips, etc… because I always use cases and screen protectors to preserve my phones. I could just about take hairline scratches on a new device though.

I am of the persuasion these days that I’d take small cosmetic imperfections if everything else is on point. If the screen, panel quality, camera, speakers and mechanical buttons, etc… are in perfect order I wouldn’t risk returning the device and exchanging it for a potential lemon for a minor cosmetic defect.

It shouldn’t be that way though and QC should ensure that we all receive the perfect phones we paid for.

Yup 100% agree with you! I’m at the point where I’m afraid to swap it for something that may come worse. As I said it’s small imperfection, noticeable only under strong light and at certain angles.

QC went downhill, and iPhones are just a drop in the ocean…sadly.

I understand your frustration.

Personally, I just never look at my phone that close. I slap an Apple silicone case on it and that’s about it. But if you feel it in regular use, I’d get a replacement.

Regards.

Reading this thread actually made me look at my phone closely. Not good I know, :x

Most manufacturers know that most people won't make an issue out of it.
In the big scheme of things, those that do don't even put a "knick" in their profits.

Personally, I'm not big on defects or damage, and rarely accept something that comes that way new.
After that, if I damage something, that's another matter.

I just buy the iPhone 14 pro max on white and after 2 days (with apple silicone case) I noticed something like a paint mark on the upper side of the phone left of the antenna. We don't have an apple shop on my country so I purchased it from an authorized reseller. I called apple and they told me that they don't have a procedure for such a tiny defect.I know is very tiny but I am angry because I paid almost 2000 Euros for this.

What about the one on the right?

I did not find any defects on my iPhone 13 mini but Foxconn wasn't under the kind of pressure that they are under right now. I would also be pretty annoyed and would have just exchanged it. I bought mine at a local Comcast (carrier) store but I think that I could have returned it there or at The Apple Store. My carrier store also has a 14-day exchange policy.

The antenna line…..

A family member picked up a brand new purple 14 PM yesterday and it came out of the box with a small ding in the stainless steel corner and a small but deep scratch on the bezel on the bottom of the screen. Unreal how much QC has slipped.

No 13s were shipped with plastic around the box or plastic film on the screen.
I didn't revive this thread but saw your post. He's talking about the white plastic protective film on the screen. It extends past the bottom for easy removal.

Exchange that sucker. I didn’t look mine over before I put it in a case. Hope it’s not all scratched up.

I keep my devices for probably longer than the majority here, so having a brand new product without damage is important to me. On that note I also believe that if people settle with blemishes on a $1000+ product, then Apple will settle with their QC being what it is. Mass produced and all, they've still got to be held accountable to the standard for the price their asking of their customers.

Yes.
On the other hand, if they incur what they consider to be a high enough expense of returns and the expense of better QC procedures, they'll likely just add the additional costs on to future sales.
