My 13 Pro has dust under one of the camera lenses. It doesn’t show on pics so I’m keeping it. Kinda annoying though on a phone that costs £1000.

I have a tiny little scratch on the upper border of the earpiece that catches the light and glints at some angles. Was annoying so I ordered a replacement. The replacement device looked acceptable cosmetically but had an extremely mushy side/power button, almost to the point where anything more than resting my thumb on it would trigger a press. I contacted apple and said I’m sending the replacement device back and will stick with my original. Not playing the lottery anymore. It’s so annoying how far QC has slid on these devices.. it seems like every year it’s worse than the last. Next year they might start shipping phones with cracked screens lmao

I do not believe that I've ever had a defect but:

1) My eyesight isn't what it used to be
2) It goes straight into a case so I wouldn't see it anyways
3) I don't really inspect tech gear that closely
Same here. If I don't see a glaringly obvious defect, it's good enough for me. Screen protector goes on, it goes in a case and I'm good to go. I'm not into doing microscopic inspections with magnifying devices, scanning every square millimeter of the phone for things I'd never otherwise know were there. I probably wouldn't even return it for a scratch that was visible to the naked eye, unless it was a huge gouge that constituted actual damage rather than a minor cosmetic defect.

But then again, I also don't go into dark rooms with an 18% gray image on my screen at 13% backlight and examine it from every conceivable angle to check for screen irregularities. If it looks good in my daily use conditions, it is good.

The dreaded glints!! That is annoying though..I forget which older model it was I had that had something similar.

Yeah it’s more of an annoyance than an issue.. especially when you have phone OCD. It genuinely detracts from your new device experience. But I’d rather have that than an actual functional flaw with the phone. I’m trying to bring myself to accept the reality that these mass produced electronics are rarely gonna be absolutely flawless. It’s tough going but I think I’m getting there lol

There's absolutely no excuse for an advanced mass cellphone manufacturer to have petty defects during manufacturing. These defects like stainless steel frame dings are caused solely by greed as they are not calibrating and cleaning machinery in the factory at recommended intervals. We all know why. Right.

Oh yeah totally agreed. Especially phones that are positioned as ‘premium’. Apple spends too much time on stage talking about ‘seamless’ and ‘precision-crafted’ to describe these devices only for their ‘surgical grade’ steel to arrive with nicks straight out of the box. That is what prompts me every year to try replacing my original unit thinking the nicks are an isolated incident but believe me, I’ve gone through enough exchanges to be able to say that’s it’s a pretty widespread issue. And I just don’t have the mental fortitude to keep hunting for the perfect device that may not exist anymore unfortunately.

I feel your pain there. It took me couple of tries but the one I have is completely nick/dent/scratch free on the stainless steel, including the rims (edges where it meets the glass of the screen).

My iphone 12 PM had multiple major nicks on the lower frame edge pics in my media profile. And my iphone 13PM had one nick on the lower right corner. Both out of the box.

I remember when this was a big issue for he 5S and apple took the phone apart for free to clean the lenses. have apple fix or replace it.

Ask Apple for a polishing cloth, would sort that little problem out.

Guess you missed the joke.

From your photos, those were some deep gauges. The worst I have ever seen.

Chips, nicks and gouges are a no go for me. Sometimes you can get ones with a very small faint hair line/micro scratches where you can only see in certain light/angles on the flat part of the steel which I can live with that. Most develop these overtime anyway putting cases on and off. Anything deeper or more pronounced is also getting sent back.

Indeed. What worried me about the deep gouges would be resale or trade in value. I’d be damned to pay Apple full price for a slight second.

I think so too !! if there are some almost imperceptible scratches visible only in indeterminate lighting conditions, that's fine! But if there is something too visible, no! That's no good!

Exactly...you have to pick and choose your battles wisely....especially with how bad QC is.
