If your phone contained 5-10 apps of unwanted bloatware what would you do? Delete it or leave it? If you couldn’t delete it would it irritate you that your £/$1000 phone was littered with crap you’ll never use?

Some people will say yes. Some will say no but an option to turn the crap off keeps everybody happy.

You’re complaining about features you can simply ignore like wtf is wrong with you ? You can use iOS 14 just like 13. Install all the apps to the home screen included

I can't keep up with the thread but I've given in.

I deleted every app that I absolutely can't live with without. All of the things that I use on occasion are gone to reduce the disaster to the degree that I can. All of my old folders and setup are gone. The stuff I use most frequently is on the home page. All the widgets have been deleted except my sleep monitoring.

Did my best to try rolling back but I can't get my Mac to recognize the stupid phone and I gave up.

If they add this to iPad I'll just be cautious to avoid updates until they add it the ability to deactivate it. I care much more about the iPad than my phone.
Are you saying that the addition of the App Library feature somehow affected and changed your existing home pages, folders, and apps?

Dude, it didn't bite your leg off. Good lord. On NO planet is this in any way a travesty; it's a phone dude, it has an added feature that isn't even there if you don't look for it. First world problems is an understatement with these replies.

So you'd be ok just ignoring a bunch of bloatware? Why not, you could simply ignore it.

In fact you're responding to a post you could just ignore. Wtf is wrong with you?

This message board exists for exactly this purpose.

The most ridiculous **** in the world is when people pull out the "omg kids are starving and you are complaining about your phone/pc/video game/whatever."

You can literally say this about anything and invalidate the purpose of most corners of the internet.

My posts didn't bite your leg off either but here you are getting hot and bothered. Shocker, people that agree with the OP are participating in the thread. The bigger question is why people that disagree need to ridicule others.

Life goes on. Apple will add a toggle or I'll find an alternative if I no longer like to use iOS. They dropped the ball with the huge delays before Mini and Mac Pro updates so I found an alternative (also 10.15.x is terrible). I'll do it again but just like the Mac it'll be an unnecessary pain in the ass. Honestly my biggest concern is the future of iPad OS because there's no suitable alternative.

This isn't really bloatware as it's not like some additional apps that are installed or something like that. It's just a page that visualizes information that is already there.

That said, as mentioned before, some might certainly not care for it, like some don't care for many other things they might not use that have been there for years and can't be disabled, like Today View, or Notification Center, or Control Center or all kinds of other things (yes, there are plenty who don't even use or care for even more basic fundamental OS features like that). And option to enable/disable any or all of those would be a nice thing to have, but pretty much all of those things don't have those without some sort of a huge outrage or downfall of iPhones.

Noo..... not really. It's a feature, not your life savings. Objectively speaking this reads like you are metaphorically dilating pupils like a mad man, my man.

Also the App Library.....You can’t rename the folders. You can’t rearrange the items in the folders. You can’t see what’s in the folder unless you click it.

Nope, not a fan at all. Wish I could turn it off.

Not being able to rename and customize App Library folders is typical Apple🙄 Hopefully this feature will evolve to become more user customizable than it currently is.

Who runs Apple, the developers or Cook?

Who owns/builds 3rd party apps, The developers or Cook?

Searching a “turn off” option for App Library was the first thing i did when i installed iOS 14 to my iPhone 11.

I really hate it too and find it useless.

Hoping Apple will offer an “turn off” option for App Library very soon.

There's a built in way of turning it off, it's called not swiping over to it. You know it's there, ergo you know when to stop swiping over.

No way, man. Apple should not make it an obligation for iOS users.

There must be a turn off option for App Library. It must be optional.

Why should I be forced by Apple to keep a feature, that I am not using on my phone, turned on? Nonsense!

You fine with Today view though? I don't recall seeing you kicking up a fuss about that when it was introduced.

I assume Apple has final call on how things are categorised in the App store and therefore in this new Library so it seems that Apple's take on logical categories is illogical to many of their customers. But again, Apple does not care about the customers as long as the $$$ continue to roll in.

Developers pick the categories as part of submitting an app. You think Apple wastes time nitpicking the categories chosen?

If you think an app is in the wrong category, feed back to the developer. If people do this, then changes will happen to improve where said app will appear.

Just like your wife’s layout drives you crazy, the fact you can’t turn off the App Library drives millions of other users crazy. Period.

Wow, drama queen much? Millions 😂😂 This thread has about the same 5 people constantly saying how they hate it, with some occasional additional posts. can you support the claim of millions?

It's already been like that with many things for many years that people have lived with. There are people who don't care for the Today View that has been there for years and can't be disabled, yet there isn't some sort of crazy outrage over it and somehow huge numbers of people aren't leaving Apple because of it.

Exactly this, it's funny when this is pointed out, it gets ignored, as it ruins their point. I've brought it up a few times and it gets ignored lol.

There already is a fully customisable version. It's called the Home Screen and it has been around for years......

The point of the App Library is that apps go in their category automatically, based on the category chosen by the developer that made the app.

If you start changing the name, how are new apps meant to then auto categorise? Does a new folder called the category you changed the name of get created? Does it go into what you renamed, which might not fit with what it's called.

The obvious point that you (the collective 'you', which may include the specific 'you') is that it is already possible to do exactly what you want to do with folders - group them as you wish, arrange them as you wish, and go on living your life...

It's there basically to be hassle/effort-free for those who don't bother organizing apps on their own. Categories are essentially based on what is associated with the apps in the App Store. Perhaps this will provide more of a push for developers (and Apple) to categorize things somewhat better there.

I don’t want not to “swiping over to it”. I want an option makes it impossible to “swiping over to it”.

Anyway, Apple must do this and will do of course. Very soon.

You still continue not to “swiping over to it”. :D

How about the Today screen? Have you been so critical of that? As I don’t see you posting about that, from your post history.....

They haven’t given the option to hide that, so precedent goes against you for this.

Accept it, deal with it and move on. There’s more important things than you throwing your toys out of the pram about a screen you accidentally might encounter.

How do you even turn this on? I heard about it ahead of time, and probably don’t want it but wouldn’t mind toying with it, only I see zero reference to it anywhere in the OS.

I understand why they made the app library but yeah its for people who never bothered putting their apps into folders, so inflexible by design I guess, the main benefit for me is that it presents a list of apps when you scroll down on the screen which can be useful for finding obscure ones but i wont be going through the auto folders

the option to hide the app library and even the widget pages would be a welcome update in the future. i understand the need for new features but both of these are unnecessary and not as clean as i expect from Apple.

i can't speak for everyone but i have been an ios user partly because of the simple interface. i like customization, but i do not like clutter or redundancy. I have spotlight for apps and if I can place widgets anywhere why do i also need a dedicated page for them. Federighi please help

you don't have to use app library; it's useful if it's useful. i don't need it, but it's not in my way either.

but what do you mean a "dedicated page for widgets"? are you talking about the today page? (which is not new at all...)...?

I was talking about the new feature to have widgets anywhere, so why would I need the today view as well?? For some that want a lot of widgets it makes sense, but for me a few widgets and spotlight is all I want. Now that we can hide pages of apps, it would be nice to hide the pages of redundancy.

I like widgets and the ability to vertically scroll them, but at the same time I don’t need a page of widgets, I would prefer a couple here and there, but the ability to hide the today view would be a welcome update as well.
The idea is certainly a nice one, but given that the widget screen has been there for years without a way to disable it even with plenty of people who don't even know what widgets are let alone use them to this day, it seems that something like that isn't likely. That said, you can never really know for sure.

Interest for widgets seems to have skyrocketed over the weekend.

I am currently being inspired by this video. It’s a tad too extreme for my tastes currently (the Home Screen is a giant shortcuts widget), but you never know...

Maybe one day, my iphone Home Screen will just be widgets, with me using the App Library for searching / launching apps.

I don’t get reverting back just because a person doesn’t know how not to swipe all the way to the right. I haven’t even played with the widgets until today. Up until today, my phone still looked like 13.7 for the most part. I find it funny that you rather restore your phone and set it back up instead not using the features.

Easy. I reverted to 13.7 because 14.0 gives me features I don’t need/like and bugs I don’t need/like. Restoring from my MacBook with encrypted backups means there is little re-setup effort involved. I guess I’ll go 14 at some point but probably after 14.2 - unless I feel a compelling need to get an iPhone 12, of course

The list view is something that's been on Android that I've wanted for like a decade now. I love it. I don't love the automatic folder organization so I still make my own folders, but the list view is the best thing in a while. I also like that I can now hide every single app that I want to from my home screen.
