Also the App Library.....You can’t rename the folders. You can’t rearrange the items in the folders. You can’t see what’s in the folder unless you click it.

Nope, not a fan at all. Wish I could turn it off.
I think the idea is to not think so much about organising them. If you consider that the target audience are the users who just have page after page of random apps and never got round to sorting them out, I doubt they are going to bother renaming or rearranging the folders either.

So I imagine Apple's intent is more along the lines of - just trust us to organise the apps in a manner that will be better than whatever system you have been using all along, which I believe is going to be true for the majority of users.

Can’t you? I did not install it yet but if I cannot keep my apps organized the way I like it , not going to update!

What do you love?
  1. The fact you can’t re-order items?

  2. The fact you can’t re-name the categories?
  3. The fact you don’t know what’s in the category until you open it?
  4. The fact you can’t hide the Library?
  5. Some other great feature?
This is really make me wish: NEVER UPDATE to iOS 14
Which Apple genius came up with this?

The function is one place for all the apps automatically divided up based on categories for those that don't really care to bother with organizing their apps themselves.
But some of the category names make little to no sense based on what is forced into them.

Yea, it's funny how some people don't consider this, and assume that their opinion and experience is the same for everyone and get so aggro about it's existence.

you just don't have to use it, when you update, you will still have your Home Screen as it is now. You have the option to add widgets to your home page, or swipe to App Library, but you don't have to.

The categories were decided by the Developers, they are the same ones used for the App Store. If you have issues, speak to the developers.

App LIbrary is an absolute waking nightmare... the choices it makes, make absolutely no sense and there is no way to reorganize it so it does make sense and there is no way to turn it off and erase it from existence sans downgrading to IOS 13. NOw that I've seen it and know it's there I can't ignore it or get the out of my head. The only saving grace is that my XS Max isn't my daily phone (I limit my iPhone to work as much as possible) and I have the reassuring customizability of the app drawer on my Android phone to maintain some order in my smart phone life. At least until Monday morning. What the f@*k was Apple thinking?

Actually I know EXACTLY what Apple was thinking... "Ok, Android has some nice features that we should incorporate into IOS... but we don't want to admit it so just whip up some 1/2@ss impelemtation that isn't a 1:1 copy that can be compared directly to Android by the MacPress™ and they can write warm fuzzy, feel good articles ad infinitum on how 'it's a unique take on the app drawer concept' and how to 'master the app library'.

App Library is my favourite feature in iOS 14. I'm down to one page of apps now, and that includes a 4x2 widget.
Right there with you. I've been on a mission against clutter, including digital clutter, for a few years and the App Library fits in nicely. I don't like to waste time "organizing" folders or anything else when I don't have to and I've finally realized how fast it is to use search for something I don't use frequently.

Searching a “turn off” option for App Library was the first thing i did when i installed iOS 14 to my iPhone 11.

I really hate it too and find it useless.

Hoping Apple will offer an “turn off” option for App Library very soon.

unbelievable, that people would not move to ios 14 because of the app library; don't use it if you don't like it (i never visit it; no need).

but people who skip an operating system based on a single (& ignorable) function, makes me realize: lots of people don't understand what an OS actually is.

No way, man. Apple should not make it an obligation for iOS users.

There must be a turn off option for App Library. It must be optional.

Why should I be forced by Apple to keep a feature, that I am not using on my phone, turned on? Nonsense!

That would be something on the developers (and perhaps to some degree on Apple) to tweak and improve on.
Who runs Apple, the developers or Cook?
It doesn't have anything to do with that, just how it works, similar to how things are categorized in the App Store, for example.

What about not being able to install it because your computer cannot update to a recent system and iTunes doesnt let you update it? How to be able to do a restore of a backup in case you need it ?
Plus it has things like app library that not only is not necessary in personal cases (mine)
You update when it 's easy to do it and worth it.
Not everyone likes vanilla flavor ,for example. 😊

I hate all of the “automatic” features of iOS and always have. I hate Siri suggestions. I hate “genius” in Music. And I hate the App Library. I also also hate redundancy, so the App Library has two strikes against it.
Different people use things differently. For those that manage things themselves all of that is still there. For those that don't, the automatic options are there to basically to take care of various things without them giving much thought to those things.

It is optional in the sense that it doesn't have to be used and doesn't affect anything that currently exists or how someone has been using their device.

An option to actually turn it off would be a nice thing to have, but given how similar things like the Today View have been treated for years -- where they are there for optional use but don't have controls as far as completely turning them off -- it's quite likely that there won't be option like that.

I assume Apple has final call on how things are categorised in the App store and therefore in this new Library so it seems that Apple's take on logical categories is illogical to many of their customers. But again, Apple does not care about the customers as long as the $$$ continue to roll in.
