it’s great, means you can clear the apps off your screens and have a cleaner look whilst still having access to them.
I just wish it was available on iPadOS. Completely changes the iPhone :)

Agree. I understand that some people want to organise it themselves and they still can. No automatic migration or forced behaviour is introduced. You can even do both!

I personally like that it probably is all based on the categories from the App Store, the developers own tagging of the product (I assume) and I don't have to do anything to keep it tidy. I love the scrollable screen and a single overview instead of 3-4 screen slides which I have to drag things around on. I love automatic tagging this way. Also, updates can be rolled out with improvements and this could impact and improve whatever comes out of the system which will make it easy to manage.

I don’t have many apps on my phone, before this was two and a bit “pages”

now I just have one and the library

I have a 2x2 Smart Stack of photos, activity and music
And a 2x4 smart suggestion of apps, with the rest being apps I’ve chosen

works really well and much simpler. Can just then flick in from right to get to library

really like it

A really strange feature. Folders are organized in a way I cannot understand. Not possible to change anything. Tapping on folders gives unpredictable results: a tap can open an app, open a folder or do nothing.

I have all my apps and folders organized in 3 screens so I do not need Apple to treat me like a child and arrange things for me. I cannot understand how could anyone come up with such an idea. And nobody stopped them :)

Now I have a messy screen on the right that I cannot switch off.

from what I have experience so far, the library only comes out when you swipe from right to left when on your last “page”

so, if you don’t like it, don’t swipe ?! Isn’t it that simple ?

Ive just had a play and created 3 screens of apps again, the App Library does not stop that or hinder that in any way. And if I don’t do that final swipe I don’t see it.

Mine does seem to do a rather decent job of smart grouping them

maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see how the addition of the library effects anyone who doesn’t want to use it ?

Sure, I don't swipe to it and use the screens I've arranged myself. However, there should be a way to switch it off completely for those who don't like it. For example, Google has a news feed that opens if you swipe left from your home screen. But you can switch it off entirely, so that you don't open it unintentionally.

If I could hide it, I wouldn't be annoyed and wouldn't even post about it. There are lots of features and everyone chooses what they like. Maybe that's the level of imposition that makes people hate it.

I think the app library is great. My criticism comes from badly tagged apps appearing in odd/unexpected sections

Exactly, it makes no sense. I had all the Google apps in 1 folder, now they are scattered everywhere in a mess across the app library. It will take some time to get used to. I suppose a real app launcher with modest abilities is too much to ask...

How did they get scattered? All my Home Screen items were left intact by the iOS 14 install.

I think he means that in the App Library they are scattered, as opposed to how they were (and are) on his home screen, which makes the App Library useless for him.

He means they get scattered into the App Library.

You sure? “I had all the Google apps in 1 folder, now they are scattered everywhere” would indicate otherwise...

That says to me that what they once had has been deleted. Which makes no sense.

He means (I think) All this Google apps are in a folder called say “Google”. Now they same apps are duplicated in the App Library under Travel, Misc, Other etc etc.

...so is the idea that we hide our current screens with all the folders and then just use the home screen with widgets for our favourite apps and use the app library for everything else?

All my apps are already in folders so why would I now use the library instead - doesn't make sense...??!

Ah that's the name. And yeah, I get that it can be set to come up when the phone is locked, but that's not a feature IMHO (it's a security concern if any of those widgets leak personal info).

But as far as "useless duplicates" go, I've never used it before and its even more pointless now that widgets can live in the home screen :D
Some people who don't use of it can find it as useless, kind of like the App Library, but it's there for those who make use of it (and has been there for what's) and can't really be disabled (short of being able to disable it when the device is locked).

Without a doubt the most useless iOS update ever.I mean why the hell do i need an iOS app to organize my apps?Eehhh i have done that myself since day one!

It's mainly there and mainly could be useful for many who don't really bother with folders or organizing their apps. Those who already have them organized can still continue using what they always had and used.

An option to disable it can be useful to have. At the same time a similar Today View screen that has been there for years hasn't had an option like that which has been added for it after all this time (even though there are definitely those who don't make use of it).

If it for people who don’t normally organise their apps why on earth would they want a stranger to randomly organise their apps for them?

Think about it. It doesn’t make sense.

They end up with pages and pages of randomly placed apps based on when they just download them. This way they don't need to have pages and pages of them and just the App Library that keeps things in one place with some sort of organization (even if it could be improved) that's better than just apps randomly across pages.

Regardless of how well or how poorly it's categorized, and irrespective of how those categories are picked, I have pretty strong muscle memory - been using iPhone since the first one... and my layout has evolved over the past 10+ years ... so using anything but my layout, my folders and my placement is extremely slow and difficult... again, I don't particularly care for the App Library, but it doesn't bother me that it exists...

I have been experimenting with some of the widgets, and, frankly, the jury is still out on widgets, as well.

... and the designated hitter is still a horrible idea. Now, get off my lawn.
