I’m converted honestly I have lots of folders but over the years my number of pages grew. I now have just two and the first Home Screen has three widgets.

What I would say is it looks more modern and clean. I have been using search for apps for years. Not those other 6 or 7 pages are hidden.

Something new at least.

And therein lies the advantage. You can use app library in place of folders and spotlight. I think it’s a remarkable improvement. And all these naysayers will get used to it. People are just resistant to change. I hope Apple keeps it and just improves upon the experience of it

Not a fan. As a app launcher, it sucks. As a folder page, It sucks. To recap, it sucks.
So what are you trying to say

Not a fan of it myself, but since it doesn’t get in my way and nothing has been taken away as a result, I’m really not that bothered by its existence.
Yes but for some individuals they think the world revolves around them and the app library is heresy and must be abolished. They can’t fathom that a lot of people would find it useful. Imagine that!

When someone buys a devices it does revolve around them though. Whether their opinion makes a difference to the company that makes said device is another matter. If you look it from another angle, these people's iPhones are no longer what they bought and its their right to be able to keep it the way that they bought it… correct?

Also the App Library.....You can’t rename the folders. You can’t rearrange the items in the folders. You can’t see what’s in the folder unless you click it.

Nope, not a fan at all. Wish I could turn it off.

If you could do that, the whole point of having it automatically maintained would not work. You can just continue using the same old way if you like, just don't hide your old home screens and if you accidentally swipe too far into it, swipe back.

I have several delivery apps. UPS, FEDEX, Hermes, DPD etc.
The App Library has scattered these all over the place. Some in “finance”. Some in “social”, even one in “shopping”.

Complain to the App developer, presumably if they categorise their app in the App Store properly, that's what apple is using to put it in the correct library folder.

My Home Screen is already not cluttered at all. Two pages, with apps put in logical folders, exactly where they should be. The App Library is a disorganized mess compared to what I already have. AND it’s duplicative, so doubly bad.

You're probably in the minority (most people I know just used search to find stuff previously because the phone screens are a mess), and can continue using your home screens.

As soon as you install a new app, possibly on another device if you have auto installs turned on, you will need to re-shuffle them again.

That's boring busy-work that the computer can do.

I get it, if you're OCD about things, letting go is hard, but there are seriously more important things to worry about.

Let go, put your brainpower into something more productive and let the computer handle it.

Or don't. The option is there to just not swipe through your screens that far. I mean if you're super organised, you know how many screens you have, right? :)

Hopefully Apple add a UI setting to turn it off for you.

You’ve now made that point about 10 times. We get it. Some of us still don’t want it a junk page of poorly organized duplicates.

I have a lightly used, working iPhone 6 you can buy off me for cheap!

It’s like they thought.......we’ve already added a bunch of stuff Android has gotten right for quite a while; call bar, small assistant, default apps, widgets, PIP.......a direct replication of the app drawer would be too much. Let’s create its Frankenstein cousin for them.

In all seriousness though it would be nice if they would have put it where the old widgets/today page are. That way if you want to have multiple screens of widgets and use the App Library for its intended function you don’t have to swipe through multiple pages to get to it. The today/widgets page is kind of redundant now that you can just make your own and put it wherever you want. Just my .2 cents.

It’s not redundant as you can have as many widgets as you want on that page and scroll vertically. I’ll put one or 2 on my Home Screen but the rest are staying to the left. I don’t want multiple pages of widgets yuck. Stacks are nice for certain uses but Scrolling vertically seems more efficient to me than swiping through a bunch trying to find what you’re looking for. I hope they don’t get rid of it, but having options is always nice.

Did they suddenly magically transmogrify into Android devices with the installation of iOS 14 then?

I must have a faulty phone then because mine still looks and acts just like an iPhone...

Allowing this feature to be deactivated is not harming anyone. If I’m going to hate my expensive phone because of rigid UI changes then I might as well buy Android so I gain flexibility. At this point the only thing I’d lose that I LIKE is iMessage. Unfortunately I’m also hostage to approving family purchases and managing kids’ screen time.

I don’t know why people feel the need to defend Apple. Allowing others to not hate their phones by inserting a toggle switch won’t hurt you any more than when they began to allows to remove stock apps instead in of hiding them in garbage collection folders.

I hadn't thought about it from that perspective. I can see value in that for people that utilize a lot of widgets. In that case it would be nice if they'd make today screen and app library moveable under the edit pages pane.

It seems strange that something like that would make people hate their phones. That said, if it was all simply presented in a way of just suggesting that it would be good to have a toggle without all the extraneous things it's likely that quite a bit of the discussion in this thread wouldn't really have come up.

I really don’t get this “feature.” It’s just another Home Screen with my apps organized far more haphazardly than my own folders. Like Mail goes with banking apps? Google translate, stocks, and kindle all go together? Really? This is supposed to help me?

And yes, I know people will say “just don’t use it,” but that’s not the point. You can turn off Siri, screen time, Touch/Face ID, etc. We should be able to turn this off too.

Agree. I wish I could turn it off.

I can see how it would be useful for messy people that don’t organize anything and are always lost looking for their apps. But I’m an OCD nut, and I like everything exactly as I’ve placed it. For me it’s just unnecessary clutter to have a duplicate screen of folders.

Or...just don’t use the App Drawer. Unless you pan right you can’t even see it.

Like I say, I’m not a fan of it myself. I personally feel it’s half baked.

But that’s fine because I’m not forced to use it.

People will complain no matter what Apple does. I don’t know how many posts I’ve seen in these forms complaining that iOS doesn’t have an app library like Android.

You literally don’t have to use it. I was trying to figure out what all the fuss was so I downloaded iOS 14. All my folders and icons are still there. There’s just another section that has an app library. Don’t scroll that far. That’s the fix 🤦‍♂️

Oh but you can. It turns on by you scrolling all the way to the right. When you don’t scroll all the way to the right it’s off. You don’t see it at all. You’re welcome 😀

so true. i never see it, because i never scroll to it. meanwhile, i doubt apple will give us the option to disable it... look how long it took them to give us widgets....

They gave us the ability to keep the old layout in iPadOS. You could choose for yourself. They should do the same with the App Library.
