You basically repeated what I said 🤣 Also, you mean when the developers who make the apps and assign the categories they want their app to go in, get it wrong? 🙄
Sure, however you want to spin it, I’d like to fix mistakes in App Library categorization. Not a big ask.

You want a new/different feature than the one Apple envisioned and provided with the App Library in iOS 14. That's perfectly fine, it's just not what the App Library is, at least not the way Apple seems to have designed it to be. Perhaps Apple will redesign it or provide a different version of it (although with the existence of regular home screens where users can organize things on their own, like they could before, it seems like that's not that likely).
It’s a minor addition to what’s currently there, I really don’t think it’s as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.

That part of it isn't that big of deal on its own, but it changes the behavior of the feature which is designed to be automatic and different from the user controllable home screen. That isn't to say that it's good or bad or right or wrong, but more to say that it's not what the App Library is meant to be based on what we know and have so far, which makes it that much less likely that something like that would be added to it. That said, it's hard to call anything as a complete given as things can certainly change in all kinds of ways if Apple decides to do it.

It’s not a mistake if it’s chosen by the creator of the app. It might be something you disagree with, but it’s only a mistake if the developers say as such.

This is your problem, as evident throughout your posts. You are basing things as right or wrong on how you want them, not as what their designed as. A big fundamental difference.

What you want is a actually a massive change to the entire thing, as it’s not just a matter of just letting you move apps or rename folders (which you can already do by making your own version on the home screens, which no doubt you already had pre-iOS14), how does the library then hand automatically sorting on new apps installed, if you’ve renamed a folder and the new app doesn’t make sense in the renamed category? What if an app developer changes the category of an app you have installed, does it then move when the update comes out? There’s tons more questions like that.

So, yea, of course it’s not a big ask 🙄🤣

So, it disappoints you because you cannot configure it the way you can your home screen? Why not just use the home screen and ignore the App Library? Everyone wants to complain about it, but they seem to be absolutely incapable of just ignoring it...
I’m not sure which post you meant to reply to, but that’s not even close to what I said.

I really don’t get this “feature.” It’s just another Home Screen with my apps organized far more haphazardly than my own folders. Like Mail goes with banking apps? Google translate, stocks, and kindle all go together? Really? This is supposed to help me?

And yes, I know people will say “just don’t use it,” but that’s not the point. You can turn off Siri, screen time, Touch/Face ID, etc. We should be able to turn this off too.

Personally I find the App Library as useless as teats on a bore hog. To me it is like asking a total stranger to come in and rearrange all the items in your kitchen and pantry, or rearrange all the books in your vast library, or rearrange all the tools in your garage, etc. Why on earth would I ever do that? The answer is, of course, I wouldn't. I have enough brain power to organize things in a way that makes sense to me. I have no reason to allow Apple and its app developers to decide where apps get placed. If a person is so weak minded that they can’t organize a few dozen apps on their own, or they prefer to just follow whatever is forced upon them, then they have a lot of issues to tackle. But for me, I would never use the gawd awful App Library and I’m angered that I can’t hide that monstrosity.

Except that what you have doesn't get rearranged -- your existing home pages, apps, and folders that you arranged the way you wanted are still there and can be used just like before.

Wow, so much hatred and derogatory comments for people that aren’t ‘on your level’. Maybe get a clue and chill.

Also, i assume you’ve been just as vocal and critical that you couldn’t remove the Today View screen over the last few years?

Correction, for the last few years you’ve had 2 pages, the Today View page, which you could never remove, for widgets & your one page with folders. The App Library being add does not take away from your page with folders & you can still have that.

I think App Library is the first time the categories developers have chose really impact end-users. Therefore I predict that developers will start changing their categorizations or risk having users ditch their app for one that is in the correct AL folder.

AL is a new feature and I'm sure Apple will make changes to it over time. Its currently mandatory to encourage people to try the feature.

I previously had custom folders before the app library was a thing, but they needed a lot of hands-on management.
Choose a folder for an app once is hardly a lot of management. But when you add the ability to hide apps or choose folders it becomes the same amount of management as just using folders.

It is easy for me to avoid seeing AL as my games are on the last page. Once I see games I stop swiping.

Cool. Glad that works for you. It doesn't for me though.

People organize Apps in a Way they like by category ,most used, recently used etc
Apples way of organizing things for many makes no sense
Widgets... Hopefully more will be coming out. Problem with widgets is they take up Alot of real estate the smallest widget takes up 4 App spaces
Bottom line: I’m not enthused

My other issue is that I use an iPhone and an iPad - since, at the moment, you can't to apps library on the iPad it means I have to use the devices differently. One reason I do Apple is using devices the same way. Maybe iPad library will happen soon but..

That's my only major gripe with the App Library. Why on earth is it not available on the iPad? It's fine and even good when iPadOS gets some extra features compared to iOS (to make use of the iPad's bigger size) but I don't understand why there are iOS exclusive features like the App Library or why you can't put widgets anywhere on iPadOS (which would especially be useful there).

I keep trying but I find it takes me longer to use App Library than just finding the apps in the old organization. Also some apps I run have similar ICONS so without app name it is also difficult.
I suspect sometime in future we will have no choice but use the library - probably a couple of years away but in the future

I so hope you are wrong.
I don’t want to go back to early Android days with no Home Screens.

That would be a start IMO. Then again what you call Finance they may call Information or .... having folders with 20+ apps listed according to what a dev categorizes it as is fairly useless.
Wonder what Apple really plans for this.

Calling BS on this... the "mandatory to encourage people to try the feature" is absolute speculation. If you say it's so, please cite your source for this unfounded drivel.

And you are speculating that I’m wrong.

So why cant the user turn off App Library like they can with widgets?

I am not challenging your statement that it is "mandatory" (i.e., it cannot be turned off). Rather, I am calling out your stated fact concerning "why" it cannot be turned off... the implication is that it will, after we've "tried" the feature that Apple will allow us to hide or disable the App Library.

As for turning it off "like they can with widgets", you cannot "turn off" widgets, either. You can choose to NOT ADD them, but you cannot "turn them off"... the option to add a widget will always remain without the need to "enable" anything.

Not sure when it happened. These are changes since last Thursday.
11 PM on 14.2 b2
  • My Recently Added has some new ones ... sadly they are all apps I have had for a long while. Example: Citi Mobile and Quakefeed - not sure why they were moved
  • My Productivity & Finance - my top 3 should be Gmail, Mail, ProtonMail, Files, or Notes. Instead I have GMail, Discover, and Chase. I only hit the bank apps every week or two.
  • My Travel - my top 3 should be Google Maps, Maps, and Street View. Instead I have Google Maps, Enterprise, and Google Earth. Enterprise I have not used since last year. Google Earth just a test for beta 2 to see if it works.
  • My Utilities - my top 3 should be Safari, Blink, Settings, Clock, or Calculator (RPN). Instead I have Compass, Setting, and Home. Home I do not use for anything. Not even set up.
  • My Other now contains Google Home and Pinterest.
  • My Social has changed to now include basic communication while dropping other Social Networking apps.
Changes I can see. Basic functions not working, again is something else.
If there are changes, somehow the users need to know.
