Typical for this forum though.

I don't have widgets on the home screen or use the app library and use my phone exactly like I did before IOS 14 with no mind of the new features. Pretty hard to believe, eh? ;)

Typical of any forum really. A back and forth of differing opinions. Just that this forum tends to be more of an attempt of one side trying to unilaterally ignore common sense and comparable situations.

It’s shocking that you can use your device like that, iOS 14 ruins how you can use it as it messes up your screens [/Sarcasm]

My home screen is as boring today as it was when I had my 6+..and I like it that way.

A month and a half into IOS 14 I have forgotten that the App Library is there. I just put all my mostly used apps in folders on the home screens as if I still had IOS 13. Honestly, I wish the App Library was like Android where you swipe up and it's there and all the apps are listed in alphabetical order. Actually I wish you can set a default on the app library where you can list them in alphabetical order instead of in apple-assigned folders which is pretty confusing.

You can basically get that by swiping to App Library and then swiping down on the screen, although you can't set that view as the default.

I’ve reverted everything back to pre-14 days. No more useless space-hugging home screen widgets and fully disregard the App Library.

The Lock Screen is screaming out for some useful stuff on it but it’s exactly the same as iOS 1 or whatever that was called.

I'm surprised Apple hasn't done anything to spruce up the lock screen. I don't know what you could do, but maybe have 4 of your most used apps where you can have access without having to use face ID or Touch ID. I know it's a screen for notifications but maybe they make the Notifications smaller.

Widgets would be more useful on the lock screen. The ability to see your next calendar event without having to unlock, your todo list, etc etc. All we’ve ever had is a big blank space for you put a picture of your dog, kid or partner. Whoopee do.

I believe Apple mostly wants to keep the lock screen available for notifications which it sees as something more important in that sort of a use case. That said, widgets that are accessible while the device is locked can certainly be useful, which is why I keep Today View accessible when the device is locked and keep my widgets there (basically in the same place whether locked or unlocked).

I mean access to this stuff without having to pick up and swipe. Tap your phone and you see the Lock Screen widgets.

Like windows mobile did for years. They even had always on lock screens so you didn’t even have to tap!

I gave up on it too. No real benefits for people that already had their home screens organized. I can spring into any of my apps within 5 seconds easily, swiping all the way over is a waste of time.

hi, OP here. I haven't read this thread in weeks, but I love that it's somehow still going 738 posts later. I upgraded to iOS 14 again basically only for the AirPod Pro automatic switching (which is awesome), but I still hate the app library and don't use it.

Have a good weekend everyone!
You’ve caused a lot of trouble on here 🤪

I think it was this thread that made me realize how busy this whole forum is. This is one active community, much moreso than a place like Imore or 9 to 5 mac. I came here as an alternative to reddit but I'm finding myself staying here because it's so active. :)

lol yes. I just posted this thread in a moment of frustration after upgrading. Never thought for a second it would spark 30 pages of replies!

At least you posted your frustration, and then moved on, and seem content with ignoring it, like it doesn’t ruin your life. Others in this thread could do with following your lead. ☺️

App Library is one of the best thing they’ve come up with in YEARS. pages and pages of folders were terrible. Launching by search is much better.

I have one page with several folders. Lots of apps.

I would think that is common.
I have a School folder.
A Project folder.
An Investments folder.
A Finance folder.
An Entertainment folder.
A Work folder. BTW - most of my Work apps are not in any folder in the App Library. They are in the Alphabetic list.;)

and a couple for odds and ends.

I don't know anyone who had pages and pages of folders. I'd turn off the App Folder if ever given the choice.

I'm having a hard time coming up with new apps to download onto my phone. I feel like with apps on a phone once you have the essentials, everything else is just kind of what you're interested in. I don't really do gaming so I only have a few games on my phone and the productivity stuff can be very limiting. You're not going to do excel spreadsheets on the phone, for example. Maybe I just need to look for new, cool apps.
