Its been two months now since 2B588 and i dont think a firmware upgrade is coming to fix the issues. Apple are normally pretty quick to resolve major issues so i don't think they are taking this one too seriously and it may be that they reduced the ANC deliberately and now stand fast on that

I not only wholeheartedly agree with you, I've been saying the same thing for weeks now.

In all likelihood, far more APPs have been sold in the two months since 2B588 was pushed than were sold in the few weeks before it was pushed. If Apple were to make the ANC stronger than it is now, it could make a lot of those customers vocally upset, especially if they find the increased inner-ear "pressure" associated with strong ANC to be uncomfortable (the very reason many of us suspect Apple reduced ANC in the first place).

i doubt it as well that Apple will come forward and release a patch. There has been 0 info/statement/news about our suspicion that the ANC has been changed. I doubt they would fix it 'silently' either, as this could/would create a new issue for the new users who are used to the current situation (the issue ' ANC is too strong/makes a user nausea/etc).. My guess is that this stays as it currently is.

Ideally, to cover those who don't know how NC was with the original firmware, & those who do, the 3-stage NC setting in software would be a winner.

Though, implementing it may not be as easy as we think - would it introduce issues etc...?...

What gets my goat is that very few (none?) of the high-profile tech writers who gave the ANC rave reviews when the APPs were first released have bothered to go back and update their reviews.

What I don't like is not seeing why the ANC was reduced in the first place. Was there some large outcrying of TOO much ANC? If so, I surely missed it. But I have seen a lot of discussion about it being decreased. I can only speculate as to the reason and acknowledge that some will continue to applaud the "perfect" ANC as it exists now; both those who never heard the original ANC performance and thus have no APP reference point to compare, and those who just don't feel there was a change, perhaps due to their ambient noise use cases. I'm not invalidating their opinions; they are just as relevant as mine. But, for those of us who do notice the dramatic decrease in ANC, it is disappointing, because we know what the APP were capable of, and I for one liked it. Sure they do still reduce noise around me, but not as well as before. Maybe it was a decision of caution. As an example, when I first got them and the ANC was AWESOME, I went for a walk around the neighborhood with my dog. I was switching between ANC and Trasparency mode while not listening to anything. Several cars passed by without me hearing them until they were very close when I had ANC on. So, I decided it was a good idea to use Transparency mode in that situation. Again, speculation, but maybe Apple is trying to avoid getting sued if someone gets hit by a bus with APP in ANC mode while crossing the street. Who knows at this point. It would be a nice surprise to get the original ANC back, even as an optional setting, but I'm not holding my breath.

Ah seeing how the software department works in the last couple of years I can guarantee you that if they introduce one feature it will come with 10 bugs..

Why not create the option of ANC slider to let the user pick the level of ANC they want instead of one size fits all?

you mean like Sony etvc have :) yea I dont get why they dont have more configuration options for that

I complained here a few weeks ago about the ANC and now I notice I have not used my APPs since. Tried them again. The noise cancellation is entirely useless for me. Music loud enough covers the environment, I don’t really noticy hardly any change ANC on or off. At a train station I can hear a lady talking on a phone 5 meters away and a machine at a nearby construction site perhaps 50m away. This was not so before the firmware updates.

Tried complaining to Apple support back then and they said they don’t know but they imagine a fix will come soon. It is not coming. Using my Sony WH-1000XM3 that I got instead. I feel so ripped off. Worthless piece of junk, now.

Have you got an apple store nearby? My local one swapped them after testing them and admitting the noise cancellation wasn't working

Someone on Reddit claims they received an update today to 3CB4 and the noise cancellation is much improved. This could easily be BS though. Haven't had any update here.

Hmmm, I just read on reddit that firmware 3CB4 was launched.
Edit: False alarm, just a fake lol.

How can such a discrepancy exist. What devices are you using? Have you tested them on other people’s devices? Very strange.

I just got my APPs replaced at an apple store. The new ones have 2B588 and the ANC is definitely better. I was a little skeptical about the firmware differences but I can tell a difference.

Same as me, get ready for the you had a hardware failure while the new firmware was updating, mics need cleaning out, silicon tips had worn out comments though :)

Wonder how many AirPods are in circulation these days with purchases and warranty replacements. Would it be reasonable to assume that APP that are returned within the returns window are now being used for the warranty replacements? ?

Yep. I actually am using the same foam tips on old and new. Also tried all the cleaning tips. Not an audiophile but there is a difference.

What’s the latest AirPods 2 firmware? Just got mine recently and they have 2A364. I have tried “encouraging” them to update by plugging the case in, putting the AirPods in and having a paired iPhone connected to WiFi sitting nearby, yet nothing happened. Sorry if this has already been brought up/answered, but there are 26 pages to this thread! Perhaps it could be turned into a Wiki thread with the first sticky post listing the current firmware and tips on updating it, similar to how it is with iOS or Apple Maps threads?

Latest is 2C54. But as far as aware Apple have stopped pushing firmware updates due to the reported issues with the current version of 2C54. You may be on the second version which I think has been the best to date besides 2B588 which is the version I am on after having my APP swapped out. Other users have also reported receiving warranty swaps running the same version of 2B588. So I would consider yourself lucky to be on your version. Anyone one else want to chime in to be sure what I am saying is correct?
