To me at least, a Catalina and iOS user with tens of things that don’t work. For example a $1800 iPhone not syncing with a $2000 Mac.. just saying

I won't claim that my experience has been 100% flawless but its been close enough to say I haven't had any problems or can I name something that doesn't work with Catalina or iOS (WatchOS, iPadOS, and tvOS also for that matter). Not sure what the iPhone and Mac syncing issue is, care to elaborate? Or another thing that doesn't work?

Anc broken on airpods pro

iPhone not syncing with the Mac, it might work after hours of attempts

Mail app keeps opening in split view, making watching a video a pain

Continuity and handoff when logging into a second Mac user both stop working until you reboot the Mac

Unlock with Apple Watch sometimes just stops working and starts working again all by itself

HomePod dumb as never before, asking 6 out of 10 times who is speaking

Tapping the iPhone on the HomePod to transfer the audio or a phone call often doesn’t work and when it works you need to keep the phone on top of the HomePod for 10+ seconds

Initiate a call with HomePod will result in the other person not hearing you

Airpods pro don’t activate the microphones, need to take them out of my ears put them in the case and get them back out

Airpods pro activating only one bud, need to put it in the case and back to get it up and running

Mail app on iPhone showing non existing unread email badge

Sending a bunch of pictures from one iPhone to another with airdrop will send them in random order, not ordered by date and time as you would expect

Wi-Fi internet not working when I open the MacBook, need to disconnect and reconnect to the wifi manually

If not enough I can keep going for days..
The ecosystem is simply a disaster.

And I consider myself a fanboy, I have heaps of Apple products at home, including vintage Macs that are actually more reliable than the new ones, Shane they won’t be able to surf the web anymore otherwise I’d much rather using my iMac g4 on OS X tiger!!

I am suffering half of these things myself too. Feels better not to be alone :)

Thats more than enough. I can't blame you for being frustrated, if I had those issues I would be right there with you.

I don't have AirPods Pro so I can't speak for their quality at all. My Gen 1 AirPods got really flakey before I got new Gen 2 AirPods (not Pros). I since have retried them after 'forgetting the device' and resetting them and now they actually seem to work better (minus the dying batteries from years of us). I have the rest of those devices and non have given me any of those problems (aside the normal trivial stuff).

For example normal stuff being devices I have that can hibernate wakes on a dead IP on occasion. Considering my MBP is the most used device, I experience the issue the most with my Win10 ThinkPad.

HomePod, Unlock with Watch and Mail have all worked fine for me. One time the stereo pair stopped working with the HomePod, power cycle fixed it though.

AirDrop puts photos in the order they were captured (encoded). Confusing without looking at the metadata since the created and modified dates will be new but (again, for me) its in the proper order. I normally view photos through 'Recents' though because for me that makes it more logical.

It seems like a lot of your problems revolve around network issues. I know its a pain but have you tried resetting network settings? HomePod transfer and device detection, Unlock with Watch, AirPod connectivity, Mac Wifi, syncing all use bluetooth and/or Wifi. Something is very not right there and I know these devices are capable of functioning correctly, or at least as well as mine do.

Hello. What is the current airpods pro version now? I have 2C54 installed. 2B58 newer version? and how can we upload it? Thank you.

It’s been about 3 weeks with the 2nd replacement AAPs. After a week, foot stomps and low frequency engine noise became an issue, again. More on the right than on the left. 2B588 firmware.

Encouraged by those before-after photos, I bought some new Blu-Tack to make sure it’s clean and dust-free. It actually worked this time. I used canned air before and after the Blu-Tack treatment. I have no way to verify if these are as good as new, but they are very good again. And most importantly, ANC is symmetric again. I used canned air from the side direction, thinking that direct airflow might push any garbage deeper into the mesh.

So yeah, I guess this will be the new weekly routine from now on.

I dont imagine blowing air into the speaker diaphragm is a good idea if done wrong.

2B58 is the old version but apparently works better for ANC. I have NO issues with 2C54.

Yeah man.. done several times on all the devices, reset router and updated firmware too...

Question. I got my replacement earbuds in the mail today. Do I unpair my AirPods from my phone and then re-pair the new set?

My Airpods Pro had the update to 2C54. Called Apple (in the Netherlands), they won't replace them. They acknowledge the fact that the firmware has reduced NC, but otherwise state that they are functional and that they are aware of the situation and are "working on a fix". Probably the fix will be the announcement of Airpods Pro 2, so they can take your money once again and render your "old" Airpods Pro obsolete.

The rumors are regarding Airpods Pro Lite not Airpods Pro 2 and to my understanding the Lite version might not have ANC.
I don't think they will release a V2 of the APP yet, if they to, they are big A..H...

Technically the 2C54 is the latest version but since Apple pulled it, it no longer is. 2B588 is the one before it. Once you have 2C54 installed, you no longer can downgrade. Only way to get them is either purchase new ones or go to the Apple Store and see if they can replace those under warranty if you feel they aren't working as intended.

I don't understand why it takes such long time. Like, we get iOS updates every freakin day, and no update for a severe issue for many months for APP?

How to release Audio products at Apple:

Step 1 - Guys make APP with nice FW. They work great.
Step 2 - VP of product comes - fire these guys - too much salary.
Step 3 - New team is hired for a quarter of the salary.
Step 4 - They release new FW upgrades(downgrades) that add nothing but remove everything
Step 5 - People get pissed.
Step 6 - Director of Customer Support gets to show his pecs on how to handle escalations and sends replacements
Step 7 - Corona kicks in, New employees go to quarantine.
Step 8 - VP decides to make a lite version without ANC. Cook is happy because this will fix the ANC complains.
Step 9 - repeat the loop.
Step 10 - lessons learned! After HomePod FW brick we have done an excellent job emulating what we have already done
Step 11 - Implement a cheaper HomePod with less sound quality. More like a HomePod Lite.
Step 12 - Cook is ecstatic: We now have 2 Pro Lite products! I am so thrilled about Apple Product Line this year!

Hmmm...

A. It’s not as big a problem as you think it is.
B. It’s a complex problem to solve and it takes time and resources.
C. Both of the above.

I would hardly call this a severe issue, by the way. It may not be what you want it to be or even, possibly, what it was when the earlier firmware was installed, but its not severe.

D: Just release 2B588 with a higher version number so 2C54 AirPods can at least go to a better firmware

Even with all this insider information you’re still sticking to Apple products. Why if I may ask?
