Which Model Number and Hardware Version does it list?

Model is A2031 (AirPod Gen 2 NonPro), Hardware Version is 1.0.0.

I hope you can update to right firmware. did you contact to apple support? they don’t have any info about 2D and you have to ask a new replacement probably. I don’t understand what is the problem but now there are 2C,2D,2B for the same product and even apple doesn’t know the current firmware?

I'm calling Apple support again in a couple hours. Waiting till my workday is over. The other is still running a 2AXX code and won't update either. Had them since Christmas. I'm hoping I can just get them to replace the right one and HOPE I get one with 2D3.

Called Apple support. Spent 90 minutes on the phone. They had me send diagnostic data to them so they can investigate. Won’t hear anything for a week, so I’ll just leave them plugged in till they get back. Thinking it would be a good idea to have a way where you can plug into a computer and upgrade through iTunes. They did confirm 2D3 is an upcoming release, they wanted the diagnostic data to see why they other won’t even upgrade from 2A364.

I think the answer is simple and obvious: the 2D3 hasn’t been released to public, they can make new devices with new firmware in their office but we have to wait public release to get the firmware. airpods can’t find 2D3 installation file for now. probably finally we will get new update next month...

Then it is pretty ****** of Apple to send an updated one as replacement...
At least give a timeline to the affected people on when to expect it to be working again

Exactly! Now I am stuck in a position where I can only use my AirPods one at a time. The reason they wanted the diagnostic data is because of the right one never upgrading at all. It was still on 2A364 when it should be on 2C54.

Look at it from the bright side, twice as long "battery" life for listening to music.
So the other one never updated at all, is there a way to force an update?

No you can't force an update. It happens all by itself. I charge the AirPods in the case every night next to the iPhone. This goes back to me saying, there needs to be a way where you can hook it up to iTunes or something to do an upgrade.

I read that if you let both inside the case (maybe with the lid open?)for a while the one with the latest update will update the other one.

but there isn’t any source for 2D firmware. we can sync and update old firmware to 2C54 but i think it is impossible to update 2D firmware. there are 2 solutions: wait for an update (who knows? 1week/month/year) or ask for another replacement. If you are lucky you will receive right buds.
unfortunately this is the new apple. they make new products with the worst softwares. they don’t control their quality anymore. i am not sure they have a QA TEAM.
nowadays apple tv+, arcade, music ... services are important for them. devices are nothing for them

This is for AirPods 2nd Gen. That is what I'm posting about. This can also happen to people with AirPod Pros. This has been confirmed on Reddit. I've also requested a Right AirPod but was declined until the diagnostic was done.

But the 2D3 firmware is specific to the AirPods 2nd gen, not the AirPods Pro.

2D3 is for both. If you get a replacement from Apple right now for an AirPod Pro you could end up with one that is on 2D3. My situation is I have a 2nd Gen AirPod (Non-Pro). Others with the Pro have received some with 2D3.

I have the same problem and have spent the last 2 days trying to get Apple to help. The issue is the firmware 2D3 is not available for update yet. I finally got to a Senior Adviser and he said he could not help me other than send me another set but could not check the firmware before shipping so may or may not match. They have sent me 2 left ones, both with the 2D3 firmware which of course won't sync with the other one and cannot be updated. The adviser wasn't helpful at all. He said if many people report the problem (in my case it took 48hrs to get to him), then engineers might look at it. Otherwise there was nothing he could do for me. https://www.apple.com/feedback/airpods.html

SE Penna.
I've noticed most remote news interviews are using both AirPods models. And I have to say those using the Pros have a better more natural sound when the speaker speaks.

Update: Not a good one, but an update. I'm on my 4th replacement on the right Airpod now and still haven't been able to get one with 2D3 on it. They have sent me both Left and Rights at the same time. All my lefts have been 2D3 and my rights have been all over the place. Escalating tonight to see if we can just stop the madness and get a refurbished set sent.

Same here. They have sent me two sets and they never match. Please raise hell and file a report so they see that there is more than one of us. The only thing saving me is the hack that I read on another site. When you pull out the lightening cable, there is a green light for a nano second. If your timing is good, push the sync button on the case, the light will turn white and you can pair them to your iphone. Every time you put them back in the case and close it, it resets and you'll have to go through the 'forget this device' and re-pair. Don't close the case and they work fine. It's not perfect but at least they both work at the same time.
