Blanket denial? Apple hasn't denied anything. In fact, they haven't said anything at all. Just because they haven't supported your theories with an acknowledgement doesn't equate to a denial.

What relevance does bias have here? This is not a faith-based argument. Everything I'm saying is simply logically following evidence and reports we all have access to, which I cite, repeatedly and often, when I post.

I've never claimed to have inside info or push a company line. And he works in the audio division, in fact. So if having a friend who might know a thing or two about what's actually going on somehow makes me less informed, have at it.

That's a flawed testing procedure. Your ears have already heard the sounds during the first test, so your ears know what to listen for. Which makes it much more likely you'll indicate that you hear them on the second round.

I don't entirely dismiss your perceptions as evidence of something, but RTINGS already did that test of 2B584 vs 2B588 with actual dB measuring equipment, and found no noticeable difference.

The fact that they were pushed to do the test after reader complaints, and found no measurable difference with testing equipment, supports the argument that this is psychosomatic and echos the phenomenon experienced by Bose QC35 users. (People complained; Bose intervened; no difference was found by Bose engineers).

This Forbes article was also inundated with readers who reported no difference in ANC with 2B588.

So if you both noticed a drastic difference, clearly there's something else going on, non-firmware related. Yes, psychosomatic perhaps.

Also, did anyone notice RTINGS retracted their conclusions about 2C54?

Thanks for bringing facts, not feelings, to the table here. If I had a nickel for every statement like “I feel...”, “I think...”, etc... in this thread, I’d be very wealthy.

Did not read all the post, I have (2) AirPods V2 and I am still on 2A364. I have been unable to get them to update using various methods described online. Is there a trick to get an update, anyone have any luck lately with the v2's?

I am from the UK and was looking to purchase the Pro's for the gym and when I am out and about as a I travel a lot in noisy environments
Reading this thread seems to show the Pro's have a lot of issues. Should I get the older AirPods instead of the Pro's even though I don't get great sound quality due to the fit? The Pro's are very expensive so I want to make sure they don't have a whole load of issues.

I think that the issues are somewhat blown out of proportion here. Yes there are some issues with firmware. Yes there are some issues with keeping the vent grilles clean. Yes, there are some issues with crackling sounds etc. Even still, I think APP's are an amazing device and even though I've experienced all of the issues, I would absolutely without a doubt buy them again even though I also own a number of other high end headphones.

I do think that buying AppleCare is a no-brainer for these - even as someone who doesn't normally suggest purchasing it. In the USA it's only $29 and it covers everything - including battery degradation - for 3 years.

Oh wow, I definitely will.

How do you clean the actual Aipods Pro and keep them clean?

I am going to be using them in the gym and I do sweat a fair bit.

Just remove the plastic buds on your AirPods Pro and swab it with cotton damped in ethanol (99.5%) would be fine.

Got my pair of the pro's in January and uses them primarily in the gym and when doing other high intensive things . I have not experiences any of the problems a few (in the grand scheme of users) experiences. I would get another pair in a heartbeat as it makes so big difference. I do however NEVER use ANC when I am running/biking or otherwise out in traffic (live in a big city) as it would be wildly irresponsible and a danger for yourself and others.

For cleaning I just bring a microfiber cloth (for glasses) and wipe them off. once I a while I will put a dap of water on the cloth and wipe them down. If you need to you can put the tips in lukewarm soap water, gently wash, rinse and dry and they will be good as new.
Some of the problems mentioned had been solved by cleaning the grills, this can be done with blue tac, or similar substance.

I agree. Yes there have been hardware issues with a lot of people reporting failures including myself but its probably the minority rather than the majority.
As for the noise cancelling well it is good and it works well. It’s not as good as it was with the initial firmware releases but it still works well.
I had the first and second generation AirPods and if I had to choose I would still go with the pros. The noise cancelling test is a pain in the neck though so don’t rely on it too much and if the pros sound good in your ears then leave it at that and don’t try and run the tests.
Get yourself some Blu-Tac or an equivalent and clean the grills regularly and you shouldn’t have any issues with noise cancelling. Even if you have the gen ones or gen twos, you should still use Blu-Tack to keep the grills clean so I don’t see that cleaning the pros on a regular basis as being an extra chore

Oh okay

I think I will take the risk and go for them! I wish they had them in Space Grey or something. I know colorware do different colour airpods but they are very expensive. How often do you need to clean the grills?
What happens, does wax get stuck there or something?

I just upgraded from the first AirPods to the pros. Had them for a few days now and they are so much better.

They fit much better and the noise canceling is great.

Personally I have not had problems with the grills, but some who have had them longer then me talk about dust/debris getting in there, which apparently is one of the factors in fit test not passing and bad ANC.
I have not experienced it myself.
And I use mine for heavy and long workout sessions.
Just run a microfiber cloth over it and you be fine.

and don’t see it as a risk, I can almost guarantee you that you will live them.
They did so much for me, to the point where I can listen to a audiobook during long sessions of row and ski in a really noisy gym with almost no volume at all. So nice

How water resistant are they?

I sweat a lot so I don't want to break them. I know they are not proper workout earphones

IPX4

They’re perfect for gym (if they fit). Noise cancellation of the awful gym music is brilliant.

I suggest you try the hell out of them for the 14 days return period, making sure you find the Silicon tip size that fits you as soon as possible - you can only test them properly if they fit right & don’t slip out over time, which is what I found with the Small tips.

You need to wipe them down after each use, as natural skin oils may make them slip out over time the next time you put them in.

AppleCare for AirPods Pro offers coverage for 2 years, not 3 years. And while it's definitely a plan worth recommending, the initial cost does not cover "everything." Repairs for accidental damage will cost an additional $29 per incident, and for only up to two such incidents. There is also no coverage at all for theft or loss.

Thats true! I tried them in the apple store
Problem is I was going to buy it from Argos as I get 25% discount as I work for a company they give discount too. Argos returns policy isnt apples and you can only return them if faulty. J have tried them on before in the apple store and they did fit pretty well and I did pass the first test with the medium buds.

I am thinking of just buy-ing them from Apple and forgetting the 25% discount as with apple you can return them if you don't like them.

You got the answer in technical terms, but in practice the take a rain shower fine. Again just make sure to wipe the off before tucking back into the case.

and if you sweat more then heavy rain, I still think you be fine as in my experience ears is not where you will get the most. Fairly little part of the body

Any good cases to use for the Pro's

I have read the Nomad ones are decent but not sure

The case you charge them in, I don’t use any extra for mine. And for an item like this which see heavy use I don’t mind the case getting a few scratches as I see it as normal wear and tear. And I have come to see scratches more as a sign of me being happy for things and use them a lot, which makes me appreciate it more and not worry all the time.

Here
I just won a pair of AirPods Pro from work that I've been using for about a week. I noticed that the firmware is not the latest version - I would have thought they would have self updated by now.

I feel like when passively listening that the APPs sound flatter than my V2 AirPods, but when I do side-by-side tests they're more or less the same. Perhaps I'm just so used to my AirPods that any change in sounds from the AirPods Pro is temporary perceived as a bad thing.

What version do your APP have?
And congratulations on winning a pair.

what do you mean by sounding later?
Personally I love the sound and much prefer it over the wired headset. Had not used the AirPods
