I don’t know...and neither do you. Might have been completely unrelated to the issues being discussed here.
I know because I bought them on launch day, was amazed by how well they blocked out the train every day, and then all of a sudden I could hear the train announcements one day. I’m also an audio engineer. While it’s true that some air pod pro’s might not be affected, I know mine are.

You make this claim repeatedly, but NO active noise cancelling headphones do much of anything at all for blocking voices. The fact that you believe they once did hints strongly that your memory is somewhat faulty.

Did you get replacements?

Apple did the same thing with the HomePod and got away with it. I don’t know if anyone bought one at launch but the sound was way superior before the first firmware update

thats not data...its a subjectively written opinion piece.

My AirPod pros with A2C54 work great for noise cancelling on trains. Human voices while not entirely blocked out are reduced significantly. Train announcements I can't hear with them on either.

Just cleaned my AirPods Pro grilles (1 - main speaker, 2 - inner side, 3- outer side, 4 - stem mic) with Blu tack for the 2nd time since buying them on release.

Can't say that's much trouble. All in-ear phones require some cleaning. And everyone using in-ears should clean their ears daily.

This time I did it because I was hearing more body movement sounds than usual (thumping, head movement, etc). The last time was more obvious, assymetrical body sounds and worse ANC on one side.
The dirtiest grilles seemed to be the ones on the inside surface, the ones in constant contact with the skin.

As before, perfectly restored to normal condition.

what did you clean them with?

I heard a new pair of AirPods should be coming possibly in the next 2 weeks and is rumored to launch with a new firmware called 2D3 and all of our AirPods Pro’s should update to that firmware version and fix all of our anc issues. Maybe it's wrong. Have you heard? Is it possible?

Considering how many articles we have seen on the front page I think we all are aware that something is up. Also the reports of some here in the thread reviving replacement units with an unreleased firmware is pretty sure signs.
How much the new firmware fixes is still not sure. We will only know when people who are affected updates and report back

Do you know about Apple anc problem? Does it know themselves?

When you first get the APP, you notice how much the ANC blocks. After you've had them for awhile, you start noticing how much it doesn't.

Can someone give me a sane comment to help me decide on purchasing:

1. Firmware issue - people here way overhyping it like most things Apple? Or a real issue. I don't think I care that much about noise cancellation, and the pros are on sale for ~ $200 right now.

2. I could wait for a the "lite" version later, but if they really are going to be priced at $200, I might as well get the pros on sale now right?

Main concerns are: 4hr battery life of pros now, the $200 steep price. Somewhat debating if I should just pick up a cheap $30-$100 alternative pair. Hell, the Anker Liberty Air 2's get 7 hours and are like $80.

Main thing I must have is good fit and good call quality. I'm in like 5hrs of meetings per day and no way want to deal with people complaining that they can't hear me properly.

Are you part of the Apple ecosystem? If yes, that already should have you leaning towards getting them as they work so well with Apple products. So much easier to connect and move amongst Apple devices.

Battery life: I am in meetings all day. On days where I have no break at all, they're dead by lunch time. If you have meetings throughout the day, where there is at least some time for them to recharge in the case, you'll have no problems. I've also discovered that I get much better battery life when I use the webcam's microphone and not the APP microphone.

Call quality: despite my comment above about using the webcam's. microphone to save battery life, the call quality of the APPs is fantastic.

Sounds like they’re working as they should (as do mine).

Got my Pro’s today after upgrading from standard Airpods and Cannot explain how much I disagree with this.

You disagree on what my opinion is? Please tell me what my opinion is, then :) Glad that you are happy with yours. I was extremely satisfied with mine until the firmware upgrade downgraded them.

My $0.02.

You won't be disappointed and you can return them if you are. I like mine, have no issues with them and the only criticism I have is that they aren't loud enough, but thats probably a good thing and is saving what hearing I have left.

The noise cancellation feature is great.

4 hour battery life isn't that big of a deal when you can just drop them back into the case for a recharge.
