Guys
I am from the UK and was looking to purchase the Pro's for the gym and when I am out and about as a I travel a lot in noisy environments
Reading this thread seems to show the Pro's have a lot of issues. Should I get the older AirPods instead of the Pro's even though I don't get great sound quality due to the fit? The Pro's are very expensive so I want to make sure they don't have a whole load of issues.

If you can wait a bit I would wait for the next generation of AirPod Pros. Those are their ”fix” for the issues with the current gen, I guess. Maybe they will also have better waterproofing considering the gym use, who knows?

The current first gen APPs seem like an expensive ANC failure Apple will not take responsibility for. I call them a scam, but there seem to be happy users as well. Note that I am still on the firmware that got pulled back, they are selling ones with the older firmware.

I got a few months of good product, then they downgraded them with a firmware ”upgrade”. Best support can offer is saying ”sorry”. You have been warned.

If you have to get something now, definitely just AirPods. They are better than the current AirPod Pros IMO.

It is definitely NOT a scam & most people are happy with them. Please don’t spread unsubstantiated claims.

A hardware update to the Pro’s (with Noise Cancelling) is a long way off. The update currently rumoured online won’t be for the Pro’s as they were only released last year! If they do happen to be updated (most likely Non-Pro imo), then don’t expect noise cancelling.

The AirPods Pro are still far a better product than the normal AirPods. By a longshot. I recently bought a pair with the latest software update (or whatever version they come with out of the box) and I have not noticed any of the problems I see people complaining about. Now, I wont say the people that complaining dont have a valid reason, but I highly doubt Apple has ruined the Pros as much as people online makes it sound.

Here
What version do your APP have?
And congratulations on winning a pair.

what do you mean by sounding later?
Personally I love the sound and much prefer it over the wired headset. Had not used the AirPods
Sorry - “flatter” - I updated my original post.

When compared to my AirPods Generation 2, the APPs sounded flat and less punchy. Perhaps I’m just so used to my AirPods that any difference in sound is noticeable, but I’ve been kind of disappointed.

The seal test says I’m good to go.

“Scam”

Alrighty then.

They work well for me. And for the 99% of other users who are not complaining in this thread or on Reddit.

I took the advice someone here posted and cleaned my APP ear tips with mild soap and warm water and that brought them back to like new.

Personally, I'd like the noise cancelling to do a better job at silencing my son when he's yelling at the Xbox. This version of noise cancellation does nothing for that.

If this COVID lockdown lasts too much longer, I'll have to buy something better.

No active noise canceling headphones do much of anything for voices. The AirPod Pro's are about the same in this regard as my over-ear Sony's which are among the best active noise canceling you can buy.

I am on my 7th set of Pros after numerous hardware failures with the first 6 sets. whrn I got them, they felt more solid and seem to be better built. I had no noise issues for seven weeks and then suddenly the noise cancelling failed in the right pod and I was getting a high-pitched squeal from the left pod. I cleaned the grils with Blu-Tac although they didn’t seem dirty and I washed the Silicon tips in soapy water and they have been fine ever since for six weeks now.

Ohh okay, could be a habit thing or that is is not just as good a fit in your ears.
Most people I have spoken with really like the sound of the APP, but I guess part of it might be that even without ANC on the reduce background noice more.
if you continue to be disappointed just be happy that you won them?
Never got an answer on your firmware version, but the latest is 2B588 for the APP.

What is an advanced replacement set?

Advance replacement is where they place a temp hold on your credit card and ship you a replacement earphone or earphones, or case or complete set. They release the hold after you ship the defective stuff back to them.

And why would Apple pull back the update from its servers if everything was fine
Apple likely pulled the firmware because of bluetooth connection issues, nothing to do with ANC.

Secondly the conclusions that 2C54 caused worse noise-cancelling have been retracted from that site. Not only that, but they didn't detect any difference with 2B588. There's no evidence anywhere to support the idea that ANC has worsened, at all.

That's just a clickbait article summing up the schadenfreude from reddit and macrumors. There's no sources in that article.

Target.com has the AirPods with wireless charging case for $169.99. Red Card discounts that another $8.50.
I am from the UK!

They are more capable, yes. As to whether they are a “better buy” only you can decide based on your own price/feature needs.
My issue is the problems

I will happily pay for the Pro's but if it has problems then its not worth me getting them

I am thinking if I should get the normal AirPods or even the powerbeats pro
