The Beats X at its price point is expensive. Sure it'll sound better but it's nothing special. Aside from the easier pairing, there are tons of other bluetooth headphones with the same design.

They have the W1 chip, which will provide a seamless connection between all 5 of my Apple devices, just like the AirPods. I get a 2 hour charge in 5 minutes, which is quite handy at least for me, for those spur-of-the-moment runs when I just want to get out only to find that my bluetooth earphones are not charged. They have the same RemoteTalk feature.

And yet, if they're nothing special, how different are they from the AirPods besides the latter being unilaterally wireless? If Beats X do sound relatively better, at $180 they're better than AirPods at $220.

I think if you get into the habit of always returning them to the case when removed from your ear, the likelihood of one getting lost will be the same as any pair of earbuds. And not having to hassle with a tangled cord will be a godsend. Also, for me at least, I can't remember the last time an earbud just fell out of my ear from moving around to much or running. If it ever has been ejected, its because the cord got caught on something and pulled it out. Although it's subjective, I do recall one reviewer say they were louder and had more bass than the standard Apple Earbuds, but unfortunately, i can't recall which at the moment. The final aspect I'm looking forward to is the ease of moving the BT connection between devices, what with disconnecting and reconnecting, it's cumbersome and doesn't always happen without a glitch.

What I'm not looking forward to is losing physical controls on the earbuds themselves. I like to be able to stop the audio or adjust the volume easily, particularly when you suddenly need to talk to someone. I'm also fearful that when the Airpods do get released, it will be similar to the pencil and availability will be quite constrained, the options being to order on-line with a long shipping delay, or constantly checking your local Apple Stores for availability and purchasing for in-store pickup. I doubt Apple will do a pre-order for an accessory. Regardless, I'm definitely looking forward to trying them out and very appreciative of the two-week refund period. If they turn out to be unacceptable, I'll check out the BeatsX next.

Yep, the port configuration is different on the AirPods which results in a 'deeper' bass.

It's almost easier though. Just take 1 earbud out and the music will stop. Like you, I am worried about availability. I think if you are not up at midnight Pacific time, you will be waiting months to get them.

Well the Nike version of the Apple Watch just went on sale which also had a late-October release date. The ability to order online seems to have just suddenly appeared, and by the time the blog sites reported the news, the shipping date slipped from October 28 to early November. There's no indication in-store pickup will be available. If the Airpods are released the same way, it will be random luck whether you receive them sooner or must wait longer.

The AirPods are cheaper. Where did you pull that $220 price from?

I did not realize that, good point. I guess I will be checking the apple store app a few times a day.

We'll if that's the price for both products in Canada then you'll have easier choice than me in the US. In the US they're basically the same price (airpods are $10 more). The 2 biggest advantages Airpods have over the beats X is wire free and the charging case. Virtually you'll never run out of battery if you put them back in the case. I think not a lot people listen to music more than 5 hours straight anyway. The charging case is a huge selling point. I'm willing to sacrifice sound quality for other perks. Now talk about the Beats X, besides the W1 chip, the beats X are just like other similar products on the market. You can find similar products at like $15 on Amazon. They also last 5 hours. I'm not saying the beats X is a bad product, but pricing them roughly the same as the Airpods make them seem expensive.

I actually thought the beat x were 8 hours of battery life.

Sorry, I was quoting in Canadian Dollars. I should've mentioned.

That's cool, they are £159 here in the U.K. I think I might wait and see some reviews before getting them, or hopefully see them in the Apple Store.

Wow! That sucks for us here in Canada.

I did not know that! I guess I'll have to reconsider my choice. For me, sound quality is the priority. Sadly, there aren't many options.

Me too. Although, I'll almost certainly not be getting the AirPods

But don't forget the case the Airpods come in charges them, and when that case has been fully charged it lasts up to 24 hours. So if your out and about, your battery runs low on the Airpods just put them into the case and they will charge up. I think that is a great feature for battery life.

At the Regent Circus store, I was talking to the the Apple staff today and they said that at the refurbish launch yesterday, they had literally hundreds of people coming in asking if the airpods had been released. I think this product is going to be seriously in demand.

I'm not buying them for two reasons.

1. EarPods don't fit my ears (too small)

2. I buy the cheapest earbuds because I have a little beagle who eats every flippin' pair I buy. I'm normally good about keeping them picked up but every couple of months I'll forget and they become nice little crunchy toys for my dog. I refuse to buy high end earbuds for that reason.

EarPods fit me fine so I'll be ordering the second they're available.

It's hillarious to me that people concerned with sound quality are waiting for Beats, LOL.
