Looks more subtle than anything. If you showed me the home page from iOS 18 next to this one without any context, I may notice a couple of small changes, but nothing beyond that.

Whether you like the look or not - opinions will *always* vary - the big thing to me is that this is like painting the deck chairs on the Titanic. Or, something like that.

What would be far more impressive would be a declaration something like,

"We got out too far over our skis. This year we're going to clear up every bug we can. Fix all the problems people have had, going back for a while. Too many problems have migrated to new operating system versions, and live forever.

"Plus, we were wrong about how we've treated developers. We should have embraced them as partners. Like any relationship, some partners will be better matches than others. But, that's no excuse for us abusing them. That stops now. Here's the details..."

(Full disclosure - I am not now nor have I ever been a developer. To my knowledge, nobody in my family extended is either. But, I have lived with bugs that Apple keeps denying exist even when shown to them.)

So they do a whole new style and design to iOS but kept the tired old outdated looking Fisher Price app icons. Apple should have created all brand new app icons to match this liquid glass. not keep the same circle cornered square icons

I would have to see it in person to properly judge.

One thing I fear, is on the Mac it will look awful without a retina display.

Another year gone. Another year of let downs. ”Liquid glass“.
”Transparency“ pushed to 7. same old s**t year on year. Nothing stands out. No new major features that people would actually use. Shame as I hoped they would sort things out. Currently still watching the keynote. Halfway through visionOS. But not one mention of ”Siri“. Massive f**k up from apple last year and this year with Siri.

Come on…that’s a readability nightmare. God forbid you have any kind of complex background.

Yeah, but "AI" will come to the rescue to un-blur what Apple just blurred. These advances will be astounding. Such features like being able to read messages. Meanwhile, what people actually want are basic features to make their phone more useable, such as cross-platform iMessage, and QuickTime with legit subtitle file support, and more board video file type support, and the ability to crop a video system wide. But... glass, though, "Liquid Glass"! Words, maaan.

Folks... I know new is a lot. However, I suspect there'll be accessibility features to reduce translucency or increase contrast for legibility. There's every reason to doubt apple's DD these days, but I still have a hard time imagining they won't give you the tools to lessen the liquidity affect if it feels difficult to read for you. Accessibility has always been something Apple does well relative to the competition.

I feel like Liquid Glass is something I could have had with a Winterboard theme on my jailbroken iPhone 3GS. Actually it was. Had transparent icons and everything.

My thing is let people CHOOSE their design. I hate how Microsoft and Apple think its perfectly okay to force people to update (in order to get security support) and then change the way things look and function just to fuel some bs marketing, product manager make work crap.

So Apple has adopted the 1990s Windows naming scheme and the 2000s Windows UI. Interesting decisions.

I've gotten this feeling over the past few years that Apple hired a bunch of ex-Microsoft people to backfill the original UNIX/NextStep/etc people as they retired. HR will say years is years, right? They just keep adding all sorts of things that aren't terrible in the grand scheme of life but just irritate me like Windows used to. Like they secretly want to recreate the registry and such. Sometimes people can't help but go back to their roots...
