Folks... I know new is a lot. However, I suspect there'll be accessibility features to reduce translucency or increase contrast for legibility. There's every reason to doubt apple's DD these days, but I still have a hard time imagining they won't give you the tools to lessen the liquidity affect if it feels difficult to read for you. Accessibility has always been something Apple does well relative to the competition.
New feature to fix new OS.

Another year gone. Another year of let downs. ”Liquid glass“.
”Transparency“ pushed to 7. same old s**t year on year. Nothing stands out. No new major features that people would actually use. Shame as I hoped they would sort things out. Currently still watching the keynote. Halfway through visionOS. But not one mention of ”Siri“. Massive f**k up from apple last year and this year with Siri.
They didn’t even turn it up to 11. iOS 7 was meh and this is meh x2 they make good phones and software works with hardware. Why can’t they make great software that is new. And what others aren’t doing.

You're missing the point. This won't just be for people with visual handicap, this is needed because this glass thing is misguided design.
I think you might be missing the point... yours is a subjective take. Just because you find it difficult to read doesn't mean it will be for everyone else. Don't take it so personally.

This change is gonna be very controversial, but I like it for the most part. I think the glass look is not quite true to life. But I've been a fan of the frosted look on macOS and this is an extension of that. I absolutely love the redesigned context menus. Much needed change.

I think this will grow on people and they'll continue to refine it.

To each their own. Personally, a lot of these icons are now difficult for me to see (photos, mail in particular). They appear blurry. I do hope there will be a possibility to change this in the accessibility center.

Wasn’t Microsoft’s design called Fluent Design System where they introduced lots of blur and glass-like effects when selecting things and lots of layers 6-7 years ago? Of course blur etc. aren’t trademarked and Apple used it combined with the flat design.

I think it works better on MacOS than on iPhone but I’ll reserve judgement. But I don’t think the current designlanguage is so bad. And my personal take would be that interface and icons should be as simple and timeless as possible. I think I would like to see the current a bit simplified but maybe with small animations without it intruding.

A quarter century later and here we are

I don’t know… I don’t like this glas concept on the small iPhone screen. It feels unnecessary and sometimes it looked like they compromised contrast for the sake of it.

The invites app in the current OS looked "overlayerd", luckily they are not doing this across iOS26 at least. But why the "uber focus" on the search icon? Having this in its own menu bar next to multiple others looks very cluttered.

Having said alll of this, I think the glass design looks much nicer on Mac and iPad. If I saw it correctly, it seems like the glass effects are more complex there too.

I really like it. What I really don’t like is how EVERY MacRumors news post is full of pages and pages of negativity. Reading comments on this site seriously just ruins my mood sometimes.

It makes me feel awful when someone says something positive, like “Simply breathtaking,” and then people use the laugh reaction on it. It is so incredibly rude. It really disappoints me how grown adults can be so childish. I thought this site was better than that.

It's weird because in some ways it seems less drastic than iOS 7 did, but in other ways it feels more distracting. I remember the betas for iOS 7 really dialed in the look more, so hopefully they fix some of these issues with legibility, especially for people with accessibility issues. Apple knows better than most companies about that. But does anyone else think the glass effect is kinda distracting when things are moving in the background like scrolling or video? They seemed to think the update will put more focus on the content in the background, but I'm inclined to disagree with this first public iteration.

Why in the world can't just one person present all these things, why do I need a new person every 2 minutes to tell me how they "contributed" to this mess.
It's like a police press conference where everyone has to get up at the podium to kiss each others asses when they should just do their damn jobs - it's pathetic "main character syndrome" and increasingly worse and worse.

Also, Apple knows how half-assed they are lately and this way no single presenter appears associated with the entire mess themselves.
