A lot of very weirdly salty people in here
Nothing weird about it.
It's just.... Apple continuously fail to not blatantly, horrendously, deliberately hamstring their products in the name of profits.
E.g. the USB-C data transfer speeds.
USB-C 4 / Thunderbolt 4 runs at 40 Gbps, and I have it on my 2021 M1 Pro 16" MBP.
Intel just released Thunderbolt 5 at 80 Gbps.
And yet, here we have Apple FINALLY bringing USB-C to the iPhone.... and we get:
iPhone 15 with 0.48 Gbps USB 2 speeds. A tech that was released in 2000. 23 years ago. Same speed as Lightning.
iPhone 15 Pro with 10 Gbps USB 3.1 speeds. Released in 2013. 10 years ago.
So what has that got to do with profits? So that next year's iPhone 16/16 Pro can be bumped up to the next speed iteration, e.g.
iPhone 16 with 5 Gbps USB 3.0 speeds. From 2008. 15 years ago.
iPhone 16 Pro with 20 Gbps USB 3.2 speeds. From 2017. 6 years ago.
THIS is just one example of why we are constantly salty.
It's a love/hate relationship. Rarely is anything else better than an Apple product, and yet the Apple products could be sooooo much better. AND, the extra production cost to make them better would be next to nothing. The cost difference between USB 2 -> USB 3.0 -> etc would be measured in cents per phone. These are deliberate design limitations, made for no reason other than to push people to upgrade to the next iteration of the drip feed of frustration. Profits above all else.
