My wife is looking to get a new iPhone at some point soon, and this might be the perfect phone for her. One of her top priories is taking portrait photos of our kid and also recording videos of him. I hope that there are some video reviews that come out on YouTube comparing the portrait photos of this model to the 16. I would also like to know if the image stabilization on this single lens is as good as the image stabilization on the 16. Image stabilization on the more recent iPhones is just so great and makes watching videos where the camera moves a pleasure. Old iPhones used to have such jerky videos due to the lack of stabilization.

While not for me, just being a new Apple iPhone and being $X dollars cheaper than the next cheapest NEW iPhone is enough to insure at least some level of success. Specific capabilities are not that important to many consumers, as long as it the least expensive, it is an APPLE IPHONE and it is new (vs refurbished or used).

Many consumers are really that shallow.

At this price with that much tech taken out it‘s a no from me.

Guess my 13 mini will get a battery upgrade at some point and I’ll further save up the money. Since Apple is not huge on discounts I don’t expect the phone to be reduced to a meaningful point where a purchase makes sense.

For me the 16e is not an SE replacement it is a paper release trying to upsell you to the base iPhone.

it should be named as 16b , b for brick , its another brick not se phone , f it have 6.1 display what am gona do with 16.1 inch screen . we need mini small phone that easy to fit in pocket not bricks like this with 6.1 . mini and se phone should have screen size under 5.5 inch
i would be keeping my iphone 13 mini for next 20 year , till these bricks trend among gen z is over.

What an absolute clown show of a comment you just made. 👋
Hello projection, how ya doin'?

You're stretching reality to defend one of Apple's worst iPhone releases ever.

You and I both know deep down who the clown is. Honesty your level of defense of the product is so insane that I think it's better than a 50/50 chance that you're either a paid shill or a top tier Apple-addicted fanboi. Either way, sad sad sad.

$599....not entirely surprised, but disappointed.
I'll just sit here and wait for all the inevitable laughter to die down following my announcement that - yes, I'm aware - and disappointed - that there'll be no more mini iphones - and - ah, there's no smaller storage option available. This *cheapest* iphone costs 50% more than my iphone SE2 did. I imagine I'll just keep the SE2 until it really starts to deteriorate.

It's probably already been said somewhere in these 24 pages of comments, but I'm not exactly sure where this phone fits in. All of the phones now look (and work) almost exactly the same.

I think this was a YUGE missed opportunity, at least out of the gate. $499 would have been a powerful psychological price point. I never expected Apple to go all the way to $599.

From 2016 through 2022 there was a clear value leader. The SE didn't include all the bells and whistles but that was in exchange for a more affordable device.

There is now a gaping hope in the "entry-level" part of the market. Someone who wants a "cheap" iPhone probably won't be interested, and someone who wants all the bells and whistles will purchase the normal 16 or 16 pro. Carrier and retailer discounts and subsidies are most likely what is going to move this phone.

Apple wants people to pay up by upgrading for their Intelligence that no one really uses because it doesn’t really work.
They could have released a budget phone in iPhone Mini format, would have killed two birds with one stone: clear differentiation from the 16 line (e.g. could have left MagSafe in there, sold accessories, don’t understand how they would shoot themselves in the foot like that), appeal to holdouts with the 12 and 13 mini.

It's not shallow, a new iPhone means a new battery and the phone hasn't been taken apart to replace it. That does guarantee the water resistance somewhat. And battery life of course. I bought a refurb 14 Pro Max from an online place as it was cheaper then Apple, but I only got it last year and already it's at 86% health! Should have got an Apple refurb one as they apparently replace the battery's, but of course cost a lot more.

So the price point is key, and the specs are not bad, well for Apple they aren't.

I hope these 16e sales be dreadful, which may lead Apple to bring back the Mini's

So unless you really care about Apple Intelligence, is it better off to just buy an iPhone 14? But then again you can argue that the 16e has better main camera and battery life.

If it wasn’t for the notch I’d be strongly thinking about trading in my 15 for this. I’ll be looking at the 17 Air going forward.

"Newest member of the family"...another iPhone...smh. As I previously said, I no longer get excited for Apple product announcements. I long for the "one more thing" innovation and excitement of yesteryear.

I was considering the iPhone 16e as an "upgrade" from my iPhone 13 Pro, mainly as a stopgap until Apple releases a more interesting premium device like an iPhone Air or Flip. The idea of a larger OLED display, improved battery life, and a 48MP camera made it seem like a decent option.

However, the missing features and price point make this a non-starter for me. The lack of MagSafe is disappointing, and while the new C1 modem sounds promising, I’d rather wait and see how it performs in real-world use before making the jump. The binned GPU is another concern, especially when coming from a Pro model.

As for Apple Intelligence support, it’s just not that interesting to me—at least for now. I don’t see it offering anything compelling enough to justify an upgrade. Starting at $599, the iPhone 16e doesn’t strike the right balance of price and features, so I’d rather stick with my iPhone 13 Pro and wait for something truly innovative.

You took the words right out of my mouth. In exactly the same position with my 13 Pro and was considering this phone as a stopgap. But it’s too expensive with too many compromises. And like you I’m not that interested in Apple Intelligence.

Shame that you have to belittle people who are disappointed with Apple's ca$h grab.

$750 for an "entry-level" iPhoneSE is absurd; it's a phone for goodness sake. What's the expression about how easy it is to part a fool from their money?
Since when do you expect fairness from another human being?
Are you born today?

Also regardless

It’s take it or leave it.

Don’t buy, they’ll lower the price. Another simple rule.
Stop being so fussy!

I wont go near that C1 modem until I hear how well it holds a signal, I remember how bad my 7 was with intel modem on 4G and the Qualcomm when reintroduced held onto signals that the intel modems didn’t. Apple are cutting costs so how well this modem will be is a unknown. Hopefully it works well but I wont touch it until its had a few generations to improve as I just don’t trust Apple to get it right first time and Qualcomm make great modems and that's why people use them. Just because Apple silicon was good at the beginning (still have CPU bugs that are not fixed) does not mean the modem will be earth shattering on its first revision as modems are a lot more complicated. Apple are doing this to cut cost for themselves, not for us to have better iPhones.

$230 is barely cheaper? That's around 28% cheaper.

I think you have to keep in mind that someone buying this is unlikely to upgrade frequently. Spreading $230 out over multiple years, it is a bad financial decision to cheap out. That’s my opinion, obviously.
